  • This quick video shows me laying out a feather floral pattern on a 5 inch circle of leather. I thought it might be an interesting video to show the drawing and carving some of my feather floral work.

    I watch this again and again (not only this one, but most of your videos) ... I pause video after every several seconds and try see & understand what you just did and why. This is not only presentation of your awesome skills, but videos likes this are also great learning tool. Sir, thank you for sharing your knowledge and if I may ask you for favour ... please, more videos like this ... it's priceless for beginners like me!

    Watching you draw this piece sends me back to my beginnings in leathercraft when I needed someone to draw everything for me. Now I only need someone to draw most things for me. I never could draw and in contrast you are a "human craftaid". Great artist and a great gift! Then I watched you carve and that was even better than you draw. Of course the final result was stunning and it was a real joy to watch a master at the helm. Godspeed to you and all your work!

      Can you share a link to more of your brother's music? I'd appreciate if you could let him know that this song really resonated with me. The lyrics really helped me through a pretty tough day, just knowing that someone else can put into words the same thoughts or fears I worry isolate me was important for me this week.

    I have watched a lot of your videos a d have learned a lot. I have question about drawing directly on leather. Is there any problem with the lead from the pencil effecting the leather? I use a sponge to dampen my leather before using the swivel knife does that "smudge" the penciling? Thanks Ray

    • @toddgunsolley9401
      @toddgunsolley9401 Před 7 lety +2

      I appreciate your taking the time to try to figure out how to shoot that. One thing that is so frustrating about tooling videos is the inability to see how the tool itself is positioned and working. So many turn out like... "so you use a checkered pear shader and pound for a bit and somehow it turns out like all the stems or quills are alive now" - Well, how and why did that tool make that change? If you hit it 18 times between now and then why? I mean some people have done pretty well to try to break that down, but I still haven't really seen a good representation of how tooling depth and detail (not just borders/bevels/bargrounders) happens at real speed in the interiors and intersections of elements. I hope something along those lines is what you have in mind to shoot. I mean nothing against a beveling video, but just more of a plea for the insides and curves to be shown and explained.

    • @DonGonzalesMaker
