Just a tip.... wear the shirt without washing it. Most cats find alot of comfort in their owners scent.

Easy way to do this: find a shirt you don't wear anymore, wash it if you want (to be clean at least), then sleep in the shirt. It'll get your sent without getting dirty through out the day or have any odor. ♡
My cat tent creation story: I went to the dollar store to get metal coat hangers because all mine were wood. At the dollar store I found ready made pop up cat tents for $3.
Omg! Our tent was looking so bad, but our cat didn't care about looks. He got right in it & went to sleep! He freaking loves it! Thanks for this awesome diy! The hot glue tip was very helpful. I can't believe how much our cat loves it!
I made one today and my cats love it. I'm gonna make a bunch of them and then donate them to the SPCA and humane society

Just a small suggestion, instead of a cardboard, if you use a ply as the base, the tent becomes really sturdy! :)

This was an awesome tutorial. I had all the supplies, made a 15" x 15" cardboard bottom with a soft old tee shirt and it turned out perfectly! Set it outside my door for an old, one-eye'd deaf stray cat that has been "guarding" my front door and now he has a semi-safe place to lay. :-) Thanks for sharing this with us. It was super easy to make!

I need outdoor sturdier ones for feral cats. Any ideas? It can't be plastic totes because it has to fit next to or on downtown buildings and blend into the building color. Elevated or slightly elevated preferred.

You can make it for dogs! Just buy a really long wire cut it to 4 same long and do it with a larger cardboard and you done! :D (Sorry for my bad english my main languange is Hungarian..:D)

If you have a large cat it might be worth going to a DIY shop and getting some number 8 fencing wire (basically the same as the stuff coat hangers are made from) and a larger bit of card and making a bigger one for the bigger cat.
Will be making one for my cat Frisky. But will make it neater if I use a T-shirt, might just use some fabric I have and make a pillow for her.

This would be great for Guinea Piggs! You would just have to use something water proof for the base, maybe a piece of a lid from a container. And you could put a fleece pad on the inside! My piggies are going to love this! Thank you!
I did this for my bunny and she loves it. She was cautious at first but after she went in it she was fine. She was doing a binky around it. It took me forever to make though.

In England we don't commonly have wire hangers and I couldn't find any in the stores, how can I get around that?
You can just take a heavy wire!
