Yes - venezuela is a misnaming as well though - as a reference to the indian's palafitos which look like the river houses in venice. they also call the freshwater dolphins there, Tonina (tuna) and the anteaters - ant eating bears (they are not bears)
misnaming is a common spanish habit

The footage was ripped from Planet Earth. Its a BBC 5 Disc Box set 2007. Narrated by David Attenborough. It you have not seen it - you want to check it out. Awesome natural planet series, just blows your mind away. 4 years in the making!!! I have it on Blu-Ray. The Box set is HD 1080i/16:9 - 5.1 audio surround - 550 mins approx. Special features also in 1080i/16:9. Thought this was worth mentioning.

Planet Earth is probably the best documentation ever made. This camera flight over Salto Angel is so... perfect... Damn, this planet is beautiful! Furthermore it is our duty to keep it that way. Not just for us but for our children and their children. We should alway remember that there is so far just one mother earth, so be nice to her. ;-)

Was there in 2000, and I thought for about an hour, I had died and was on my way to heaven. On the way back to the tourist village, I saw Toucans, Macaws, Monkeys, more waterfalls ( everywhere) strage looking animals, Orchids and rare plants....I went with three friends, we did not spreek to each other for hours...we were hipnotized. God ! thank you for letting me go there...I have already told my family to spread my ashes over Angel falls when I die !
Now I know what Paradise really is.

I like the music, it really suits the visuals. I was reading that most of the water evaporates or is dispersed into mist by the winds before it hits the ground.

great place. i took a solo trip there when I was 25 (and a little naive). long journey. miami to caracas, then 18 bus ride south, then 1 hour flight in a single engine plane with all broken controls (40 bucks!), then a two day canoe trip (with a guide), and then we were there!!!! one of the most amazing things I will ever see. Too bad it's a little too dangerous to visit Venezuela right now with Chavez in power. i did the whole trip as a back-packer for 600 bucks!

Great music for it. I just put up a video from my trip there. Looking down on the valley from on top of Salto El Sapo all I could think of was dinosaurs walking around, looks so.... untouched. Amazing place

Angel Falls is the tallest but not the biggest/largest.
Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the major waterfall on the Zambezi River in Africa. It is famous for being the largest waterfall in the world, in the wet season. The African people who live around the falls call it Mosi-oa-Tunya which means "smoke that thunders".

This is where the Movie UP takes places, in Venezuela. Also, one of the waterfall on Avatar, it's a replica of this. The creator of Sherlock Holmes described this Place as The Lost World, becouse of this. And yeah, this is the most ancient place on the whole world. What a beautiful country.
Only the ones whose hearts are so hardened that they don't even know who they are, and they would rather hide behind the lie of "someday we'll find out how we got here, when we find another place with life on it."
But for the rest of us...God has given such beautiful gifts for our eyes to see on His earth. Everybody else can thumbs down me all you - each to their own beliefs. But for all of the people here who hate those for their belief in God - believe what you wish, and let others alone.

@Sparkz49 That all depends on the level of water over the falls. During the height of the rainy season you would get drenched. During the dry season, however, you would remain dry.

I'm disappointed that the makers of the film "Up" did not honor Venezuela and its history, culture and geography by calling its waterfall by its true name: Churun Meru (indigenous) or at least Angel Falls, which honors the memory of American bush pilot Jimmy Angel. This place is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I spent two weeks there backpacking, hiking and camping in the early '80s. I hope new tourists, inspired by the flick, don't destroy this precious hidden treasure.

@EllysaE Angle Falls could never be confused with any other location on earth for the simple reason that it is the HIGHEST and LONGEST free-falling waterfall on earth. I'm sure Chile is gorgeous, but Angel Falls is instantly recognized by those who know it -- even when it's featured under a different name in an animated flick.

I went to see this last week (It's a hell of a long trip, around 5 hours on a boat, but it's so worh it). It's in excellent conditions, although I wish the viewpoint had been a little better.
