Wow, so this is the place we’ve read so much about in buffering ahhhhh
Now that's a weird trip down memory lane. I lived at Hoyt during summer 1986 (!). You would reasonably be surprised that any men lived there (Hoyt has, to my knowledge, otherwise always been women-only), but that summer it was the only Co-op house open, so it was coed. I _think_ that open door at the right at 0:40 was my room (hard to be sure 32 years later). My first kiss was on that roof, and we sunbathed up there a LOT that summer. I DJ'd a party (from cassette tapes!) in that dining room.
But they did NOT have the murals and graffiti on the walls back then! Only the _bad_ house (Barrington Hall, the one I lived in the rest of the time) allowed and encouraged that. Nice to see that change.

MyHarto They did! But it's actually reopening in 2025! They are splitting it into two coops!
(I lived in hoyt three years ago for a summer and moved to Stebbins where I lived the past three years two doors down! It made me so emotional at the end seeing you walk down Ridge Road bc I loved berkeley so much
I did not know it was reopening (it closed in 1990)! While it will hardly be the same place (just try and imagine how different the UC Berkeley experience was in the 1980's), it'll be good to see more housing for students there. And I'm thrilled that the visible creativity has spread elsewhere.

this was really incredible, hannah. i experienced a lot of trauma in college and have been too terrified to go back, but seeing you be in that place, where you lived and grew and experienced things and learned, retracing your footsteps and remembering all the good things was somehow really healing for me. especially when you got up on the roof--it looked like the view from the top floor of the parking deck on my campus, and it reminded me in a way that didn't hurt. maybe someday i could go back and feel good there.

Yup, they can't impede the spread of fire if they are open.

I too lived in a co-op during college. I was the food czar (in charge of buying all the food for the house). Some of my best memories from college are of my freinds and I hanging out and watching movies in the living room on the weekends when it was too cold to go out.
I just recently graduated 3 months ago and thinking about college already makes me feel some kind of nostalgic way, Can totally get how hannah felt revisiting her college dorm...Lovely video HH

It's so good/weird seeing you come back to places we've read about in buffering as a whole different "you". I love it!! So intimate and emotional but also freeing. Love you Hannah!
I lived close by there my freshman year at Cal. Buffering came out the year after, and I remember thinking "Wow, Hannah Hart was like just down the street!" And it felt strange but cool to know I was walking the same campus/college town you did. I went to the live Hannahlyze this event in SF and listened to you two talk about post-college new-adult life. It's kind of daunting but also inspiring knowing where you two are now. I think I spend a lot of time stressing myself into oblivion as a current student at Cal, but I try to focus on the good experiences I've had and continue to have. This video is a good reminder of that.

1:17 No, fire doors are supposed to stay closed so the fire won't be able to spread as easily. Just never block the door, or people will not be able to escape in case of an emergency.

That looks like it was such a great space to spend your early adulthood in. I always kind of wished I had gone to a bigger school for undergrad so I could have lived in a co-op or joined a sorority. I love the idea of living in a loving and supportive community.

I lived in Rochdale, but also stayed over at (basically) every other bsc house😅 Plus I also did study abroad in Japan! We persevered🤧
I stayed at UC Berkley summer 2011, summer before my junior year of high school. I was part of a program called LEAD and we did a computer science program that summer. I loved that campus so much and would love to go back and find the dorms we stayed in. I remember we would always go to Jamba juice right across campus and there was a place that had the best wings ever and to this day I want to go back and find those amazing wings lol :)
I loved living in the Co-ops at Cal. I was the work shift manager at Wolf House in the mid-90s. I did a lot of growing up there.

I visited my alma mater and checked out my old dorm, except they had bulldozed the place and put up a new building. It was all gone including the place where I carved my name into the balcony railing.
This is much more significant if you've read her book. So many stories, so many life lessons.

Hannah! PSA 1:19 Fire doors are supposed to be left SHUT!!! Their primary function is to prevent fire from spreading to other rooms, not serve as an exit.
