I think what makes the fears to fathom game more scary is it’s based on someone’s actual experience
Yeah I agree, its a shame I forgot to mention that more heavily in the video :(
i'm inclined to disagree. the creator said somewhere it says that for the immersion aspect, it's like a reddit nosleep story.
@@mothman6378the creator said to submit the story to the emails so personally it didtn took from reddit
By "real story" they mean something off of reddit or sent in by some random. So I doubt its true
@mothman6378 all other fears to fathom games episodes are but not the 4th one
Firewatch not having any jumpscares makes it even more terrifying. Youre kinda expecting the figure to jump out and scare you the entire game, but he doesnt. Ned is just trying to hide, likr henry and Delilah are. In a way, they needed to meet ned so they didnt end up like him
Yeah good point, the whole game is like its building up to a jumpscare that never happens yet you are always expecting it and I think that is an interesting take that if they didn't discover Ned they would end up the way he did, I never though about it that way
although there is one moment not exactly a jumpscare at hawks cabin u find a raccon , thers an achievement for this
Sorry? call me crazy but Ned knocking us out over the head definitely felt like a jumpscare?
What I love so much about Firewatch is the fact that you choose your dialogue while you’re walking. It feels like you’re having a conversation in realtime, feels more realistic. Can you imagine a new Bethesda game where there’s no awkward standing and staring to each other? Whenever there’s a dialogue, you have to respond within 5 seconds, otherwise the other character will remember that and bring that up in the future?
telltale games:
@@StrippedBirchTelltale Games are quite different. I mean, they’re Visual Novel/interactive movies
100% agree, Firewatch absolutely perfected the dialogue system and it heavily carries the game, with most games where dialogue is boring and something you skip through, I intentionally try to get as many dialogue interactions as possible because its so well written and really nicely designed and it feels really human unlike other speech systems in games especially Bethesda games which you also mentioned. Any future story driven game should definitely take inspiration from Firewatch
Fun fact: I ended up playing Firewatch because of all the play throughs I watched for Fears To Fathom. It gave me that tiny little itch for playing a game that puts you in the middle of a forest. Firewatch has a sad but sorta bittersweet ending
I'm glad you enjoyed the Firewatch and Fears to Fathom games! :)
I know ‘Do You Copy?’ Is an actual horror game, compared to these two with mixed genres - but it deserves a mention no less.
Yeah I knew it existed when making this video but thought it would be too bloated comparing 3 games, however I might look into it and see if I can turn it into a video essay in the future :)
Do you copy is my favorite horror game
While watching this i was expecting this to be created by a guy with thousands of subs but found it to be one with only 500. Seriously tho this is a great video that deserves more attention
Thank you man this seriously means a lot, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video :D
Firewatch is a lot scarrier but in a special way honestly.
Firewatch seems cool at first, but then the pressure comes. I started feeling weird since spotting ned in the forest.
Yeah and I hope that feeling was captured in the video, that's probably the most interesting part of the game is how scary you trick yourself into thinking the game is because of the fear of the unknown and that was one of the most memorable parts of the game (at least for me)
"The fear all disappears on the second playthrough".
What I would give for an immersive sim forest ranger game, with procedurally driven animals, people, and cryptids/supernatural effects.
You can play out over and over, never knowing if those missing people are just lost, attacked by some crazy person, or take by a cryptid. You won't know if the signs of a creature attack was because people left food out, a rabid animal, or a creature not meant for our world.
Would keep you on your toes.
That would be fucking amazing
This is very good video, thanks man! The best thing that Fears to Fathom does is not knowing when or what will happen to you. Because everything we do is daily work. When some games tell you to do this, you know that something will happen to you when you go there. But even while peeing in F2F, something can happen to you. F2F uses human emotions very well.
Yes it really keeps you on your toes and every little interaction in the game is 10x scarier than it actually is because of how much your brain tricks you into being scared, only the last 1/3 of the game contains any of the main jumpscares/horror stuff etc and the other 2/3 is just incredible atmosphere and amazing build up
Both Ironbark look out and Firewatch are amazing games but I’ve always personally found Ironbark to be more realistic when it comes to the actual job of a firewatch
Fair enough, Ironbark is more grounded in reality as its a horror game and has you actually doing the job like filling out the weather reports each day and the log fire, cooking etc while Firewatch is more focused on the story with the actual job taking more of a background role but both are amazing in what they do and take the same concept in 2 totally amazing directions
i love that intro described exactly how i felt playing Firewatch for the first time
Wow I'm really glad the video made you feel that way and captured that first playthrough experience :)
firewatch is my favorite game but the ending kills me everytime
Honestly I think the ending is pretty good and even if Henry did meet Delilah the events would still be the same as in they both have a conversation about the future and then decide to change up their lives but instead of this being over the radio it'd be in person
These two games are absolutely phenomenal. I love the scenery, both stories are absolutely amazing, and even though firewatch gets flack for its ending, it think its the only ending that actually works; can you imagine finding your deary beloved and seeing them, talking to them, leaving both spouses behind in an old life, and turning a new leaf? No, they have lives outside of this job. They have people to get back to, you can not leave them.
Verdade!
Yes I agree, the ending is the most realistic and fits with the tone of the game
Firewatch é um dos melhores jogos que já vi, o roteiro, as cores, trilha sonora etc são perfeitas!
Daria uma ótima série!
Ótimo vídeo!
I agree, it is such a good game, I am glad you enjoyed the video! :D
I like what you said about the ending. I've been through disasters and wild stuff IRL. However, I'm still here. I, along with others, made it through in the end. Things only stay crazy for so long.
Not to ramble too much... I really like how REAL the story is. The characters feel unmistakably human. And the overall "this isn't that important/doesn't change the world much" is VERY true for practically all of us.
We all play little parts in this massive play.
Also WTF? Only 604 subscribers? This was a GREAT video. You've got a new sub
Yeah exactly not every moment in life is going to be this big impactful thing that changes the whole course of your life a lot of stuff that happens is just stuff and things stay mostly the same and Firewatch is no different
Glad you enjoyed, I have a lot more videos just like this coming out soon :)
Thanks for making this vidio, I love when people talk about the feelings some people get while playing these types of games.
Thank you for watching it! I'm so glad this video resonated with you :)
I want another firewatch game that’s an actual “horror” game. It doesn’t need to follow Henry again I just want a really scary firewatch game. Great video though, I checked out your other content and it convinced me to subscribe.
Yes the developers are very talented at making something scary so even just something like a DLC to Firewatch that played more into the horror elements, maybe from the perspective of people camping out in the nature reserve, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for subscribing! I've got alot more videos just like this coming out soon so I hope you enjoy :D
500 SUBS?! Man, you deserve more with this quality
Thank you so much man! :D
Fear to Fathom was truely scary, especially as it's based on someone actual experience.
This is a amazing video this channel is going to grow very quickly!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, comments like this makes the months spent making the video worth it! :D
This is an amazing video essay, sub well earned. 👍
Thank you so much! Seriously this means a lot and I am so glad you enjoyed it :D
Never really cared for Firewatch, just didn't look like my cup of tea, but i do find the FtF series interesting, since they're presumably based on "real stories", so the title sounded interesting, and it most definitely was. Great video mate, keep it up! 🤙
If you enjoy story games then I strongly recommend Firewatch but if you have watched all of this video then there isn't as much of a point since you know everything that will happen. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video :D
This video is 1 day ago and this channel's name is 1 day , coincidence? I THINK NOT!
Maybe I have secret time-travel powers, who knows?
Have you play a game called "do you copy"? If you dosent i highly recomend it, is a horror game like fears to fathom ironbark lookout but it has 4 endings
I've heard of it and was considering to look into it for this video but it would've made the video too bloated trying to compare 3 very similar games but I'll put it on my list to check it out :)
I'm not sure if my other comment appeared, but the channel Joystiq has an old Firewatch trailer with a much more unsettling atmosphere. It uses voice lines that never made it into the final game, apparently due to rewrites. Interesting to see how the game could have been.
Wow thats actually really interesting, I never heard about that, that would've been really useful for this video
Just watched it, its crazy how much the game has changed since, I really wish I could've used stuff from that trailer in this video
This is so underrated stick with it!
Thank you so much! I will! :D
Comment for engagement.
Have nothing to add that others haven’t already but you definitely deserve more attention!
Subbed and hope to see more soon!
Thank you so much that means a lot! I am so glad you enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy what's to come next :)
Both of these games are awesome!, but totally different genres
Yes, these are some of my favorite games and its so cool how both games can take the same concept of being in a fire lookout tower yet take it into different directions and style of games
Firewatch feels like you’re gonna get scared, Ironbark actually does
Thats a good way of putting it lol
should 100 percent do more vids like this !!!
I am definitely to make more but they take a LONG time to make, this one took about 2-3 months to make including script writing, recording and editing so it will be awhile before the next one but I am really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Video slaps. Loved both games.
Thank you so much man I really appreciate that! :D
every time i hear or see fire watch or it’s soundtrack i feel so comforted the game is so good and i really wish i had more games like it.
plus good vid i sub👍🏼
maybe make a video essay on games like fire watch. stylised comforting story experiences or somin
Yes the soundtrack is so good and the majority of the music used in the video was from Firewatch with the others being from fears to fathom, I will definitely look into games similar to Firewatch for my next video essay and see if theres any games good enough for a video essay, do you know any games similar to Firewatch that I could get started with?
@@OnePerDay cloud climber was a nice once i got for free on steam when i was bored and dear Esther
idk maybe later i can think of more
eventually i wanna make video essays like this myself cuz it seems fun and stuff
edit-1 last day of june i remember was very nice and sad
I'll try to check out those games at some point, and you should definitely get into video essays if its something you enjoy
Great video!
Thank you so much! :D
Its so awesome to see people covering both games, i love FTF and firewatch, I think both did a ton right and gave me a love for fire towers
Same these game made me like fire towers too
I’m your 500th subscriber!
Wow thank you so much!
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!!!
I feel like it’s due to the fear of loneliness
Thats interesting, Ive never seen anyone say that before but it does make alot of sense
really good video bro
Appreciate it, thank you so much! :D
There is an another game known as do you copy which was released around 2017-18 and f2f il and do you copy look ridiculously similar. No one has covered their comparison online till now but i hope that you make one on that.
I think that would definitely be an interesting thing to look into however I may do that in a few months time as it may be too repetitive or stale to do 2 very similar videos right after each other
great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Firewatch was scary
Especially when I though there was some stalker our there trying to kill me
every person ive seen finish the game for the first time say smth about how delilah agreed to meet them and left..
was i the only one who never agreed to meet delilah and i said she can go
Is that an option in the game?
@@OnePerDayDefinitely is, I did the same thing
Here since 511 subs
Thank you for your support! :D
peak
Glad you liked it! :D
wait people consider firewatch a horror game?
its definitely got some horror elements
Remember me as your 564th sub
I will!
