New Spark Plugs, Coil and Intake Valve Clean | VE Commodore Daily Part 2

  • We replace the Spark Plugs, diagnose and replace a faulty Ignition Coil and inspect and look at cleaning the Intake Valves in this video, the second episode in this short series on our Alloytec V6 powered VE Commodore.
    After clearing several coolant related codes last time, we now turn to the Engine Warning light and our cylinder 2 misfire - code P0302. Unfortunately unlike in our first video, this won't be a free fix but we are still going about this with a budget in mind.
    In the next video we will move onto trying to address the Stability Control, Airbag and ABS issues - cause safety third right?
    Hope this helps, thanks for watching and please consider liking and subscribing for more if you enjoyed.

      Does your car have the same factory gas system or straight petrol? If gas it may be worth checking that it’s not a gas injector first by swapping the cylinder with the miss to a good one, they’re right on top and I’ve also had issues with one of these since.

    Great tips on the wipers and cowl panel removal. I struggled with the same the other day and gave up!
    Thank you. I use the nulon upper cylinder cleaner to keep the valves clean. I have never lifted the manifold of so not sure if it works but engine runs well.

    The service manual says 20 Nm for a new plugs and 18 Nm for old plugs. Intake manifold bolts are all 23 Nm. If you get GM genuine ACDelco iridium plugs you don't need to gap them, they are fine. In fact you can't gap iridium plugs without special tools because it's very easy to damage the fine electrodes.

    Good going mate.
    Many of us will have do be doing this sort of simple car work as the economy tanks and we struggle to pay off our overwhelming housing debts, leaving precious little to spend on servicing the ol daily driver.
    A penny saved is a penny earned and the good ol local mechanic charges at least 140 bucks an hours, most of which going to overheads and our large tax burden, we all carry.
    Many thanks again and keep up the hard work.
    PS
    Could you please list the tools needed and any scan tools you use, so that we may be able to start our collections.

      Hi mate and thanks. It's great to get the satisfaction of fixing something yourself and you're right, saving money along the way is definitely a big bonus!
      Regarding the tools I do try to mention them in the video as I use them but perhaps I could look at listing them. I did however neglect to mention the scan tool I have been using - it's a Autel DiagLink MD802 I picked up from eBay and it's been great (ebay.to/2ocr3OA).
      Further on the tools, I've just this morning put up a intro for a series I hope to do covering some great tools I use and have found along the way, perhaps this series will also be something you'll be interested in. More coming on that so keep an eye out if you're interested.
      Thanks again mate and best of luck.

    hi nice video i have a 2006 vz acclaim that has no spark getting to coil 3 ie take off coil wire no difference in how it runs ,moved coil to no 1 and coil 1 to 3 and still no spark to coil 3 ,also changed injector 3 with no change and have had ecu rebuilt twice and going back for 3rd time sounds like wire feed to coil is faulty what do you reckon thanks

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  Před 4 lety

      Hi Mike, thanks for watching.
      I’m no expert but from what you’ve listed it definitely sounds like a wiring issue to that coil could be the issue. Maybe start by checking the wiring is connected properly to the plug to the coil, then trace the wire as far as you can to check for any breaks/melting etc. Could also try running it at night or in a dark garage and look for any electrical arching from damaged wiring?

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  Před 4 lety

      Thanks mate.
      Haven’t really looked at them so can only have a stab, guessing it’s a threaded fitting? If it’s not snapped flush with the lower manifold then you may be able to get vice grips or something onto it?
      Short of that you may have to drill it out and retap it but at that stage it may be better off getting another from a wrecker and changing it out.
      Sorry mate, likely won’t be fun any way you look at it.

    Hey browney awesome video , I've got a ve 3.6l 2009 wagon it's getting a really big steering wheel shake when in idle I was told doing the coil and plugs might help any thoughts ?

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      When in idle not moving? Guess you're just looking at a running rough issues then, assume it probably shakes the whole car a little? If so it's going to be way to broad to have a stab at here mate but yes start looking at anything that can commonly cause misfire/rough running I'd say, so coils and plugs are a possibility.
      Good luck mate 👍
