Would watch them at Birmingham in the 70's, always fancied flying them.

I seem to recall flying on one of these to jersey, lovely aircraft, never got fully developed (sadly a common story). Ones now at the Museum of Berkshire Aviation at Woodley - great little museum. It speaks volumes that we have enough aviation heritage in one county (it is only Berkshire aviation!) to fill a museum and I've no doubt there are a few other counties that could do the same.

I was the co pilot that delivered this aircraft to Elvington.
It was a great day with a slap up lunch, and we met Hedley Hazelden, the chief test Pilot of the Herald. My father inlaw,Dennis Rodaway had this very aircraft in his logbook from 1979 with BIA.
I flew the Heread for 3 years with Channel Express and moved onto another great aircraft the A300B4. Happy Days

As a child in the late 60s my dad worked for an airline in the PI, they had a Herald, however oddly with was not airconditioned, and this was in a tropical country

Handley Page Herald: the plane of my first flight, when I was a eight year-old child .
Summer 1971: the fly is from Roma Ciampino to Pescara airport (called at the time "Liberi", now "Gabriele D'Annunzio").
Itavia is the airlines: same company involved, in 1980, in Ustica's mistery.
    Thanks for posting it.

My Dad did thousands of hours on the Herald. Consequently, I joined him on lots of flights as a child in the 80s.

I bet when they handed it over to YAM they never expected it to be cut up for scrap.
I hope others will think twice before donating their old aircraft to the Elvington collection.

as a young bow I was living near Woodley and remember cycling to the perimeter fence and watching the prototype taking off and landing during trials. Sad that the Herald was not more of a commercial success as I am sure it was basically a very good aircraft

Hi, I thought the last aircraft Handley Page built was the HP137 Jetstream ( this in part caused the liquidisation of the company)

a highly under rated aircraft. particularly the dart-herald. i never understood why everyone went overboard on the fokker f-27 and ignored the herald !
afterthought, actually the handly-page jetstream was the last handly-page aircraft designed and built, though taken over and produces as a scottish aviation then hawker-siddley jetstream. there are STILL a few jetstreams operating out of calgary in ternational here in canada. a nice, familliant sight.

At least one Herald from British Air Ferries was in Rhodesia in 1980, used to transport election monitors around the country. Flew from Salisbury to Fort Victoria and back in one.

+n11saxo I heard about this recently and sadly, no explanation whatsoever from the so called 'aviation enthusiasts' at Elvington.... Needless to say, in their apparent fervour for summary decapitation, they've no doubt joined ISIS....
