That's not true at all. I did this video last summer and she's rooted really nicely. I had to give it a pretty severe trim because it exploded with growth after the video.
Sorry for not getting back to you, I almost always re-pot and root prune my plants in spring when you can see that they are budding and healthy and have a long growing season to recover.

I would wait a full year make sure it’s recovering nicely then prune foliage when you’re sure it’s strong and healthy.
I’m guessing you Ficus benjamina dropped all its leaves and is now dead as they don’t like their roots being touched?
