    Agree with the majority of others, it's a bad call by Ludovic. The only hand his A4 is ever ahead of there (given the check shove action on turn by Richard into TWO opponents), aside from a pure bluff of course, is a combo draw and both of those are too unlikely to justify a call for half his stack. Now, if by contrast, Richard had shoved right away on the turn (i.e. not a 'check shove'), then perhaps a call by Ludovic makes more sense for the reasons some have stated. However, as played (check shove into 2 opponents), it is an easy fold since 90% - 95% of the time Ludovic is in bad shape or, as was the case here, drawing dead.

      I was thinking this exact thing. He's got one guy on either side of him that are both in and don't seem too unhappy about it given they've both stuck in chips on every street without too much drama. There's ZERO chance he has both beat or isn't drawing dead to at leat one of them. What possible card can he hit to beat both players with 1 pair and no kicker, no straight draw, no flush draw on a wet board? Horrible call. Forget the math, it's an easy fold based on position/situation.

    • @BabyFlickBuster
      @BabyFlickBuster Před 2 lety

      I'd say if you're beginning, go with the value of the cards. Once you're familiar with them, try bluffing depending on the position you're in (last to play, big blind etc) and once you're more able to clearly read the room and guess other players cards.(It is also good to bluff about the strength of your cards, making people think you have nothing)

    • @harryp7346
      @harryp7346 Před 2 lety +1

      Once you get the hang of things, you'll find that, to some extent, you're always bluffing - if you have a strong hand (that you think will win a showdown) then you want to make it look weaker than it is (i.e. to get people betting so you can win as much as possible), but if you have a weak hand, then you want to make it look like you have a strong hand, so as to bet people to fold.
      There is a certain amount of skill involved in both scenarios. If you have a strong hand, it's about knowing what bet to make and when - essentially, you want your opponent(s) to think they have a chance of winning, so you don't want to scare them off without extracting as much from the hand as you can. Of course, unless you have the nuts (the best possible hand with the cards on the table), you have to be aware that, even if you have a strong hand, they might have something stronger. For this, you need to use your judgement, and may consider how the hand has played out so far - e.g. the betting during the hand may give an indication as to what people could have (for example, big bets pre-flop will likely weed out the poor hands, but if someone has been able to see the flop without risking much, then they could have a wider range of cards).
      You should also potentially consider how a player tends to play (e.g. loose or tight) - this can help you to estimate what they may or may not have. The chip stacks may be relevant, too - someone with a small chip stack may be reluctant to lose too many chips, but a very short stack may need to take risks, whilst someone with a big stack (especially if you have a small stack) can potentially afford to lose a pot. You should also consider you position at the table and how many people are still in the pot etc.
      The same is true when bluffing. You won't be able to bluff someone off a hand if they have the nuts themselves. Likewise, if someone has a strong hand, a bluff is unlikely to work against them. The more people there are left in the hand, the higher the chance someone has a playable hand. The bigger the stacks (compared to yours) the more likely someone might be to risk calling a bluff etc.
      In my opinion, it's best to mix it up a bit, to make it harder for other players to read what you might have. This can include bluffing when you have a weak hand, and slow-playing when you have a strong hand.
      It's also worth noting that, what may start as a strong hand can quickly turn to junk. Sometimes, it's better to get paid a small amount early, rather than seeing more cards (in the hope of increasing the size of the pot), only to find that your hand is no longer that strong/or the best etc. On that note, it's worth taking into consideration "pot odds" - to put it simply, this relates to the number of chips a player must call with compared to the size of the pot, combined with the probability of winning a pot. For example, if a pot is 9000 chips, and a player needs 1000 to call, then they potentially stand to win 10000 chips at the cost of that 1000 (so, they can win 10 chips back for every 1 they risk), but if the probability of them winning the pot is say 20%, then theoretically, it makes sense to take advantage of the pot odds. In the long-run, such an approach will work out profitable. This potentially also means that sometimes a player may be involved with relatively weak starting hand, only to get luck on the flop etc. - again, it comes down to analysing what has happened so far in the hand (to try and get an idea what range of cards players may be holding).
      Ultimately, when it comes to a single hand, anything can happen. The best player in the world can lose to the worst player - after all, there is an element of luck in the game. But, the more hands that are played, the more likely it is that skill will prevail. If you constantly play against people who are better than you, you're likely to struggle - so bear that in mind when choosing a game.
      Also, there is a big difference between online and face-to-face poker. For example, the speed of online poker makes it easier (less boring) to sit and wait for a good hand, whilst for some people, I suspect that it's easier to bluff in online poker - to some extent, it can feel less real, plus people can't see you. Personally, I like both, but probably prefer face-to-face.
