I just love how he breaks everything down mechanically
The sign of an excellent Master Tech!
I like that he doesn't bullshit
One of the best on all CZcams 👍
Down to the very molecules.
breaks everything down,
because it's hyundai.
You should have another channel where you sit down with the designer of these vehicles explaining why they made the mechanical choices they made !!! Would love to hear they're take
You have more integrity than any car youtuber I've watched. The one's I know about refuse to take electric cars seriously. I appreciate your honesty and candor in evaluating this car. I've been excited about EVs for a while now, and the Saab Emily looks like a dream come true, but there are many unanswered questions yet as it's not a production model at this time. While I have issues with Tesla, they are, in fact, the standard; and they did get the ball rolling in this industry, so a comparison to a Tesla is on point. Thank you for sharing this, and for your integrity.
I dont get it, you saying its a bad ride quality, but the mit/hardvard asian engineer that was on your channel, said this car has one of the best ride qualities.
definitely the most informative cartuber to date. I love how be breaks down the mechanical details from a mechanic's perspective. This solidfies to me that Hyundai/Kia are still in their experimental phase of their cars and they have leagues and bounds before they catch up to longer established brands. Would love to see him do a deep review of the Ioniq 5 and 6 EV in the near future.
Do not buy a Genesis G80. I had a 2021 G80 bought used with 4k miles and sold it after 1 year since it was so bad.
1) Front Headliner was not secured to the roof. I could see the plastic clips if i pulled it down slightly. How did this get past quality control wtf?
2) Panoramic roof would flex and crack if i go over uneven surfaces, which never happened with any cars I've owned. Dealerships had 4 tries to fix but could not fix
3) Weak AC that is terribly inadequate for Texas weather.
4) Rides rough and not very comfortable even with non-run flats. Granted I had the 20 inch wheels but still.
5) Poor NVH in general even with acoustic laminated glass compared to other luxury cars I've owned.
6) Gas mileage for the V6 sits around 19 mpg 60/40 highway city driving which is pretty mediocre.
7) Just does not drive as well overall as the Germans or Japanese. You can tell the Koreans brands just arent quite up to snuff when it comes to driving dynamics.
@@Fasty2107 interesting. I own a 2022 Hyundai accent I got new and I think the overall quality is okay. It's that of a 16,000$ car. It was 22k otd after taxes and a 2000$ markup.
The quality is okay. I like it.
@@Fasty2107 I have a Hyundai Genesis (aka g80) and I have all the same problems. I do not have the headliner problem. I have a bad odor from the AC. So it must be a problem if they tired to fix it on this car.
@@nick-zc9xv Why would you pay over MSRP for any car? for a Hyundai no less.
@@JulianRodriguez-sv8de I bought it in September last year the car market was crazy. It was the cheapest new car and my old car mechanically totaled itself. I needed a new car urgently. I'm in central Texas in a high cost of living area so every dealer was doing a 3k aftermarket package or market adjustment. I got the friends and family discount down to 2k.
This technical content and engineering perspective from a proper mechanic is fantastic. Unless you read a workshop manual, you could never find this technical information. You could drive a car for years and not know the poor design aspects. Thank you all at TCCN TV for another blinder.
That intro is just so nice, especially the transition to the first shot of the car with the music still going🤌
I wish you well. Indeed you are one of the rare people on yt that deliver raw info.
We like your reviews. Please do more. ❤️👍
You and savagegeese ought to do a video together. You both live in Chicagoland, and you're both very technical. This is good stuff.
i'm glad i found you on youtube. you are so knowledgeable and informative. i love your candid reviews. TYM
This is just fantastic, I wish we had someone is the Eu/Uk doing this sort of breakdown, or if you could do more of the same, it will definitely influence my next car purchase!
Well done as usual. Always interesting, informative and observant. Thank you!
Great comprehensive review. Subscribed!
Enjoying your auto reviews. Cheers from West Coact Canada!
Wow, that was very thorough and informative. Thank you.
Thank you for spending so much time and going into such detail with these cars. I would love to see you do these reviews with Subarus.
Great Review 👍🏾
LC From Chicago 😎
He gives a very honest fair assessment...critiques followed by compliments. That said, Genesis should consider his review and better its product.
PTC heaters are also included in Tesla.
Hyundai/Kia and Tesla all adjust the battery temperature with a heat pump system, and the ptc operates temporarily at the beginning.
This is the same way in most modern EVs.
This is gold! Do GV80 2023 please! Thank you.
As someone who generally gets a new car every 3 to 5 years these reviews are incredible. I was considering trading my model 3 performance for one of these. Not anymore. Thank you a ton. Your reviews are excellent.
I swear this channel is goin to blow up big! It’s just so good and by far the best car review channel out there! I mean that too! I love your other channel too! I hope your loving the Lexus!
Is it possible for you to review the gasoline model of GV70 with the v6 engine?
I really enjoy watching your videos. Can you please make a video on 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x and Pathfinder.
AMD, If you want a luxury sedan with a comfortable back seat, I recommend a nice Lexus LS 430. 😉
With 600,000+ miles 😜

Guinea pigs are nice. They are really happy in the laboratory. Great review. Thank you AMD.
It looks like they made an EV with all off the shelf type components. That's why the Inverter is so large (not a custom PCB), why all the coolant system is so large and weirdly routed, etc. To be honest, I think it can be a positive at times, since it should be easier to source or replace broken things. Unlike very integrated custom parts that are very expensive, because you can't just replace the one broken thing of the part.
I couldn't help but notice the gray Camry in the background with the hood removed. Would like to see a video on that if possible. My guess would be it had the cold start rattle and/or oil consumption. Thank you.
Awesome breakdown! I'm very interested in this car. The panoramic roof is a sad face omission but from what I've learned, the European spec has an integrated solar panel roof which, in conjunction with the raised floor (due to the battery) squeezed the cabin a little too much. I speculate D.O.T. regulations also played into the omission. With that, I speculate that the rear inverter being placed so high was also due to D.O.T. requirements for weight distribution? In either case, it's a bummer but still intrigued with this car. Thank you. Great channel
My 2000 Volvo S80 runs the blower to dry the evaporator as well...lol... that is a very old feature....always wondered why other manufacturers hadn't copied it till now.
Thank you! Would you be able to review the Subaru Outback at some point? I’m really interested in your opinion as a mechanic
AMD-inverter converts DC current from the battery to power the AC motors. In regenerative mode, it acts as a rectifier converting AC currents to DC to charge the batteries 😊
Waiting a next generation... your garage have nice Red Celica 😊
Good job
Awsome review, would love to see a ford maverick hybrid or ecoboost on here
I always get a kick out of the other cars in the shop.
G80s and 90s turn my head every time I see one. I love the interior too, especially the green and white version. I sometimes tell myself to stop comparing it to Toyota quality and just enjoy it for the beautiful styling, but ride quality is the dealbreaker. I like the effort they put into making it quiet inside. Now put the same effort into perfecting the chassis.
I don’t want to sound too critical here because I really love your reviews, and have already learned so much from you. Dare I suggest that it might be better to review cars that the majority of us working people can afford? I know there are plenty of other CZcamsrs already doing this but most of them know very little about cars. Correct me if I’m wrong but car prices are so high right now that the vast majority of your subscribers are not going to be interested in reviews on luxury cars. Those who can afford such vehicles tend not worry about reliability and longevity because they have to stay relevant and keep up appearances.
Yes that's a great idea. Just do a luxury car once in awhile.
Thank you so much for your comment. Cars are currently hard to get for reviews. I try my best to vary the content as much as possible and get cars that are across all price ranges. It seems we’ve had a small stretch of higher priced cars which will continue for a few weeks then we’ll have a few cars that are differently priced. Thank you for watching and for your suggestion.
Nice review. Feels like it trying to rival the lexus LS. In some angles it also looks like it abit. Review the genesis g90
Off topic from the Genesis - I would love you to review long-term ownership of the BMW 5 series, especially the M550i. Thanks
I gotta agree with the comparison with the Tesla and I’d have to go with the Genesis over Tesla. (Which will never happen, hybrid is as close as I’ll ever get to an EV!)
I don't know about all the technical jargon in the review, but I got the GV80 as a rental, and it's sublime to drive. Better than any sports car I've driven in terms of acceleration and cornering. I wish I had the money to buy this car.
Can you do a review on the G70 3.3 twin turbo
I giggled when he said, “And that’s why you have the hump in the trunk!”
@thecarcarenutreviews could you please review the new Toyota Grand Highlander?
Begging for f150 hybrid review 😁
Great review CCN. Can you please try to get ahold of the Genesis G70 and review that. It is a much more affordable and a driver's car. Thanks
He should review the gv70 or gv80
@naveenthemachine Nah don't care about SUVs. Cars please.
AMD - I'd love to see you review the new 2023 Ford Escape with the 2L turbo. It has great power but will it hold up and be reliable?
The looks of it are really great. Way better than the stupid normal EV look. That grill is really neat. Only thing I'm worried about is being a beta tester on the systems.
man, is it possible to review the gasoline Genesis AWD? Basic Trim with the AWD. That would be awesome. Regarding Kia / Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. reliability is always a concern. but I have to say some of their design looks cool!! thank you very much for such a fantastic informative review. I have to add. there is a rush toward electrifying Vehicles which is the cause of missing opportunities. especially regarding energy management design, it does require more profound engineering and design. that not given enough time. at least in this case, that is what I think.
I know it's a good channel when watching videos about cars I'll never buy. 😊
great review, and your right for $80K I can get a used model S plaid
Wow. That is a nice celica.
Caught my eye too!
I wish lucid sold a car under 40k. Their engineering is top notch.
can you do mazda 6.......
I take that back I just read on the Internet cost of this electric cars cost on this batterys is between 20,000 to 40,000 dollars to repair them or replacing them, depending on the model you have.
I keep seeing that older white LX in the shop and I worry there's something wrong with my favorite vehicle model!
Having owned a Genesis G80 (previous generation, G80 Ultimate), I think there’s another important consideration to this brand beyond the mechanical pluses and minuses that Car Care Nut explains so well. Not something that normally needs highlighting when discussing purchase considerations - especially for luxury car brands. That is the ownership experience.
In my 3+ years of owning my Genesis, I’d describe the ownership experience as poor. Like Car Care Nut, I live in suburban Chicago. Over my 3+ years of owning my Genesis I dealt with 3 different Hyundai / Genesis dealers. The best grade I would give to one would be a D+, while the other two would definitely be D-‘s. None befitting neither a luxury brand nor a mainstream brand IMHO. And, the poor dealership experience is especially accentuated when dealing with an issue that’s other than routine maintenance on the car. With Genesis vehicles now priced at the level of the big 3 German luxury brands the ownership experience is anything but luxury in my experience.
I was told during my purchase that Hyundai revised their Genesis franchise agreement to require dealers to commit to build stand-alone dealerships in order for dealers to sell 2019 models and beyond. Perhaps there are some in other regions, but I’m unaware of any in suburban Chicago - one of the larger car markets in the country.
❤@My favorite car 🚗 guy 👊🏿👊🏻
I've read some of the comments and have to say to those that say ev are too complicated I have to agree with you that we need a competent and vast network of trained technicians to work on these vehicles but it does amuse me and makes me think of the people who were around when the first cars were becoming mainstream. I'm sure they were thinking the same thing "These things are too complicated I'll take my horse and carriage anyday." The tech isn't static and will continue to advance. Will there be missteps? Of course because it's made by fallible people but that doesn't mean we should snub them wholesale. I'm holding off on EVs until solid state batteries are the norm and the infrastructure is more widespread but I definitely want one so we can be less dependent on petroleum and the cartels than run it. Anyways I like this car. Looks elegant without having the look at me brashness some of these EVs have.
Im kinda wondering why this channel hasn't blown up like Doug's yet? Doug Demuro is cool and all, but he's like a living MoterTrend magazine article.(not my best interpretation of his channel, but that's what my mind thought of.)
Can you mechanic review any used cars from 5 to 15 years back? Most of these are well out of mid income houses. Maybe start off with a late model Accord or Camry? Just pitching ideas here.
Saw a cut to your right hand. Do dress the wound, and keep safe. GBU. :)
Superb explanation of the temperature management issues involved in electric cars. And the possible problems with the PTC heater / multiple systems involved. I'll stay away.
I would think back seat is ok compared to a lot of smaller rear car seats in the midsize class.
Most electrics have a raised rear floor, and a thinner rear seat, for the battery. ...Even the trunk is smaller than the Gas powered version.
I think the Genesis logo looks much like the Bentley logo.
Hard seats and the lack of a comfortable back seat are a deal breaker for me. I live in the south so even though it gets cold it is not a long-term factor to deal with.
Can you try and get your hands on a relatively new Mustang GT, would love to see that!
of course with Genesis/Hyundai quality of combustion engines, you can almost predict the durability of their electric cars
Excellent information, thanks.
Your lapel mike could be improved or replaced; perhaps it is low frequencies that are being attenuated, which makes the discernment between words more difficult for a male voice. Increasing the volume makes it too bassy for the listener.
I wanna see that red Celica
Hi from Nevada. The only legit EV's right now in 2023 is from Tesla. Everything else is still in beta. I own and drive 3 vehicles. 2019 Lexus GX 460 (assembled in Japan) 2021 BMW X3 2.0L Turbo (made in USA) and 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (assembled in Japan). Good video upload. 👍👍
I'm pretty sure it's the high current of the motors and inverter that generates heat and not the high voltage.
Great review as always. I just feel these EV's are just too complicated. Do we have a service force that is capable of handling all of this? I'll take my internal combustion engine any day over this technology.
I'm confused now.... I was told Genesis/Hyundai/Kia uses heat pumps and not ptc......
I like everything about the interior except the steering wheel. Dire.
Hi! Would you choose the G80 or the ES350? Thanks!
They are very different in the sense that the G80 has AWD, it requires premium gas, it cost more but drives better. The interior and exterior looks better on the G80 but reliability is outstanding on the Lexus. Either car is a great choice but you will get more compliments on the G80 because it's much rarer than the ES350.
@@kokopuffs5789 I agree. The G80 is more luxurious and the ES is more reliable and trouble free. The prices are actually very close for these two either new or used. I quoted a fully loaded ES350 FSport and they are asking 60k+ before tax.
For longevity, the lexus
Any manufacturer that is not taking advantage of proper use of space, as Tesla and Lucid do, are at a disadvantage and shows poor design philosophy. Seems like these EV's are converted from ICE designs.
Genesis is already taking advantage of the E-GMP platform with the GV60 and upcoming GV90. As for the Electricfied G80, this is more of a experiment and place holder to see what is working or not on the GV60 and it cousins. Hyundai fixed the issue by building the new Kona as a EV first, then convert it over to ICE. The brand is not perfect, but they're willingness to correct and adapt exceed all other brands.
Hyundai don't even want to repair their basic lock issue. stay away from them.
im in the minority in that ill never get another sunroof car again. unfortunately in some models the sunroof comes with the same packages that have other things i want.
g 80 is basically a Stinger, known for not having a generous back seat. But i can tell you, i sat in the back of a 2021 camry and i couldnt sit up. I was amazed, first time sitting in a camry and i dont fit. I had to slouch downif i didnt want to tilt my head. front seats were fine. In a stinger i have headroom but not much knee room in back. then again no one buys these cars for adults to sit in the back, thats what ES350, Avalon, even K5 are for.
Interesting tip about the rotary knob in hyundai/kia hybrids and electrics, you dont have to put it in park yourself. Hit the Off switch and it will move t he 'transmission' to park for you as it shuts down. So you dont have to worry about forgetting i guess.
my issue with these electronic shifters is, how to you put them in neutral so you can move a car when the battery is dead? There is no 'shift interlock' hole next to those knobs and buttons.
BYD sends refrigerant to power battery
I love the videos but on the legroom thing, I'm 6'3" and I can't phathom why short people feel they need to have the front seat all the way to the back to put their legs straight. I bet you could move your front seat up at least another 4" and you'd be perfectly fine.
But given all the other points I would Def skip this car.
I'd leave it for at least 2 years, for them to work out all the bugs in the week components
Don't know why, I feel like the inside of tires are very worn
Lot of good information on batteries can't wait to see when Toyota comes out with a solid-state battery there's a lot of talk about this that oughta be a good topic longer-range quicker charging longer battery life
So you are trying to tell me to stay with the LS500?!😂
The Hyundai Elantra was $5995.00. I can't wrap my head around this car. LOL
Kia AKA Huandai AKA Genesis are very good at trying to copy Mercedes design, but the problem is they fail miserably....
I actually think that luxury cars should have a sunroof and no sunroof option, I believe many luxury cars used to be that way. Personally I hate sunroofs and they heighten your risk of ejection in a crash, no thanks.
I love my Sonata Hybrid, I'm not in on all electric but this car is very sharp and the color too.
Be sure to service that CVT if you want to reach more than 100k!
@@petayV8 NO cvt in the Sonata hybrid it's a conventional 6 speed automatic.
Really outlines in stark contrast how genius the Tesla design is
Holiday has really made this system. Very complicated literally.
Scotty says "nyet" to Korean cars, so Korean EV cars are a huge "nyet."
No, I would not buy or accept a 2023 G80. I had one for two weeks. It was a living nightmare. Finding a charging station was a challenge. In my opinion, you have to have a lot of time on your hands. Let me say the design and style were superior!
The answer:no
It’s a glorified Hyundai build it & ship it great review
I drove a Ioniq 6 and a G80e and the over all the Ioniq 6 feels like a far better car.
I’m only here for the fanboy comments lol
Bottom line, this car has Hyundai bones, and they're known to be very Fraile and weak. If I have to spend 80K on a luxury car, it better delivers. As always, thank you for the review.
The G80 electrified is on a gas vehicle platform which might explain the poor packaging of some of the parts unlike the ioniq 5 which is on a dedicated EV platform
I’d still rather have this than EQE or i5
it looks elegant, unlike any EV platform car
