The irony of Gojira, the incarnation of destruction, being the final movie that plays before the theater's demise is not lost on me.

This was my favorite theater from the Fall of 2016 through the start of the pandemic. I still went fairly regularly after the pandemic. I'm very sad that it has closed.

I'm from CT and this is such a shame. I miss just saying "Hoyts." I miss the Hoyts in Stratford so bad. The one that had the Area 51 arcade machine in the lobby. I hate that the husk of it is still there as a Spirit Halloween. Maybe if Hollywood had continued their blockbusting track record since "Jurassic Park" in '93. But, you know, Marvel happened... "The Marvels" is probably taking cinema itself down with it right now like a flaming blimp. The utter failure of that trashfire movie is going to close theaters nationwide, watch.

A lot of memories here. Sad to see it go.

This is honestly frightening bc if you take a closer look only the malls in the north are closing down. The malls in New Jersey are fine but had to let go of things. This I’m assuming is due to people and stores moving to the south.

So sad seeing this theater close. I've lived in Enfield for twenty years now and saw many movies at this theater. In 2003 I took the day off from school to go see the first showing of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, saw Spider-Man 2 and 3 here as well as Amazing Spider-Man and it's sequel, Wild Wild West, and many others to numerous to name.

    Sad but nostalgic.

Damn I would go there all the time growing up with my friends, either that or go to the one in Manchester. That's too bad... Now I wonder when is it the mall turn...

omg, i was there too that night. I went to see Thanksgiving cause nothing else appealed to me, but I just had to go on the last day. I can remember as far back as 1999 standing line to buy advance tickets to The Phantom Menace. The line went around the corner and outside. Oh and you're right about the small theatre. Maybe 30 or 40 seats...there were 3 other people with me. When I left they were cleaning out the kids birthday party room.

  • @seetherf9211

That's really sad. I loved that theater growing up.

  • @mikegallant811

    God bless you Tom.

  • @alexarmitage4951

I had a buddy who entered and filmed the eastfield Cinemark during the demo (not condoning it). But it was super cool to see the projector rooms, and the blueprints for the original showcase Cinema in the trash of the managers office.

When I was a kid we would go down to Enfield Mall from Springfield, we never once stepped foot in that theater. I only ever saw the mall entrance of the theater so I thought it was only a two screen theater. We only ever went to Enfield Mall because that was the closest Tmobile location to us. About ten years ago I would stop by the Target on my way home from work to pick up videogames (not even go to the Gamestop there, not even sure if it was still there then). As an adult I saw a lot of movies at Eastfield, but my secondary spots to go to were West Springfield, Agawam Cinemas, or even the theaters up in Hadley - I never even considered the theater in Enfield as an option.
