- Carl Reed, CBS Sports Football Analyst joins 365 Sports to discuss his thoughts on the job Coach Prime has done at Colorado, his thoughts on the transfer portal, his thoughts on widening gap between the SEC and Big Ten, and more.
With Craig Smoak, David Smoak, & Paul Catalina - Zábava
This guy has all the right answers and doesn’t flinch. He needs to be on more programs, he has a unique understanding of college football, especially with SEC talent level players.
I love hearing Carl Reed speak
Well said Carl.
Most of the B12 is still developing players. Ohio State, UGA, Bama, etc. have many 3rd and 4th year players in their programs. The best programs are still recruiting high school, those are the players willing to sit and play special teams/a small role for their first two years, then compete for a starting spot by year 3. The players leaving are generally 3rd year players not in the 2-deep, or some 5 stars not in the 2-deep by year 2.
Great interview. Never seen you guys before. But I’ll be checking for ur content about sports now
Spot on interview Carl💯✌️
Great interview. Carl is very well spoken
Mr. Carl Reed, what a Great interview.🦬
Great analysis Carl!
Did anybody else notice the ticket with Coach Carl's name only showed up when the camera was on the guy NOT NAMED CARL REED 👀🤦🏾😂
Good questions from the men!
Awesome interview
Great interview
Loved this segment…going to follow on X ..now
Very good show guys. The only 'developmental players' from high school that will stick around at the same college are those that are paid to stay. You think Manning would stick around at Tex-ass if he wasn't getting paid to stick around? Bottom line, the schools with the deepest donor pockets are the ones that will end up on top.
Well said
Greed is the number one driver of this phenomenon
Recruiting has become a numbers game. Either you prioritize freshman, knowing most will leave before in the first two years, or you prioritize transfers knowing they only have a year or two left. Very few programs are able to keep kids in-house for 3 or 4 years. Always the FOMO of grass being greener elsewhere.
The only ones I see who can build their teams with a majority of HS players and let them be there for 3-4 years are the blue blood schools
Deion doesn’t feel like he can develop players and win. Other top programs are still developing players. All the top schools still recruit 20 to 25 hs players per yr.
This being Deion's 2nd year, he doesn't have that luxury yet.
40 players in the top 100 are freshmen and sophomore players and are 5 and 4⭐️ players! One school in the top 10 lost 3 5⭐️ and 20 4⭐️ players... make it make sense!
@@58wheelerL He has done with since Jackson State. How can he ever get that luxury with the small hs classes he is bringing in? He wants players that are already developed
@@C_71 The teams that win championships are heavily involved in hs recruiting. We are yet to see Deion win anything meaningful doing it this way. The oline he brought in last yr graded out worst than the oline they replaced on the 1-11 team.
The pressure is real 😢🙏🏽
❤ "Coach" us up Carl!
And the ones who are against the new NCAA. It's just the reality of things today...everything progresses
How many of y'all really think Coach Sanders is planning to stay at CU after his son's leave?
And do you still wonder why he's not as interested in recruiting and developing HS kids?
Hearing this guy speak--and then listening to him preach about education is pretty mind-blowing,
Did you type that out before or after you got your GED😂
@@PA-zt6xuwhat's the point of this🤔 Guess negative ppl, do tend to get stuck in that character!! 😂
Just say what you really want to say.
@@kingcourtney6982we all know what he real wants to say.
The idea thay "development is over" is just like Carl said - young developmental players don't think think their developmental players. They all THINK they're going to the NFL after 3 years - "I'll be taking my talents for the next 3-4 years to...". They need better mentorship beforehand to let them know that they're much more likely to be 4-5 years away from TRULY BEING READY to compete in the NFL.
CU is the only program trying for instant results from the portal and abandoning effort of recruiting and developing HS players. Sounds lazy to me
I disagree with Carl.
Development is still alive and well. Just not a crappy universities when a player can upgrade.
Crappy university?? So why did Alabama lose 38 scholarship players? Just because Saban left? That may be a good reason for losing 20 players but not 38!!
Do the math! At least 40 out of 100 4 and 5 star freshman and sophomore players are in the portal... development IS dead! People love blaming the coach!
@C_71 it's not...beo u talking about 40 players they are over 10k scholarship football players in FBS alone. Stop with the hyperbole.
All because ur team is losing players doesn't men see development is dead. My brother is in a D1 coaching staff in the B10... I see development at the practices 1st hand. Stop regurgitating shity here other dumb asses say
This is a CU problem not college football issue. CU doesn't recruit at HS level so they will rely on transfer portal. Other teams grab a few players from portal and develop their HS talent
This is going to be the way of the future. Deion may have been a bit clumsy in his first year, but he will get better.
The separation from the G5 is part of this. G5 will become a feeder system for the autonomous schools.
I’m not saying that this is a good thing, but college football is changing
I think a lot of you forget that Coach Prime does not have the luxury of having 3 to 5 tears to develop a team. Unfortunately fir him, if he doesn't win this year, you all will be calling for him to be fired.
ALL coaches at "high level" coaches or programs have the same pressure to win. Dabo won less than 10 games (9) for the 1st time in 10+ years and is on the hot seat; Norvell was threatened to be fired after year 2; Chip Kelly left UCLA bc he was gonna get fired after year 4; the list goes on and on
He isn’t staying after this year whether he wins or not. Do you really think he has any intention of staying after his kids are gone? This is all a great big grift for him and his sons nothing more. You know exactly how it’s going to go. Everyone is racist, jealous, the coaches are sabotaging him, NCAA has it out for him. If they have another subpar season whatever players who aren’t performing are sabotaging the team.
@@richardgabinelli7805 What you don’t get is he is staying. Rick George knows that he has a gold mine in coach Prime. As long as the school profits from his being there and the team is progressing CU is 😊 I have never seen a coach fired on what a none fan said!
99% of all high school recruits are "development". What are u talking about carl.
I think you're confusing "talent" with "development".
No, they need to development, but they wont stay to get the development they need. They are hopping in the portal hoping to play with the skills and experience they dont have yet.
@shallojalloh It amazes me how people speak and don’t know what they’re talking about. Development encompasses a year or two of training table to gain weight, lifting weights in a real weight room to gain muscle, living away from your parents and going to class without supervision to learn accountability, learning how to go up against grown ass men in practice as a teenager. That’s what development means at the college level.
Only you were confused. Comprehend. Maybe even rewatch and listen a little bit more closely.
@@DLOOT11 | naw.. that's u. I'm good
Developing talent is over!!! It is year to year
The courts have already decided that kids can make whatever money they want in NIL. Trying to smack down the collectives would be a violation of antitrust law. Not letting kids transfer more than once would be a violation of antitrust law. If the universities want to get rid of the transfer portal they should man up and sign the kids to employment contracts just like the coaches. That's the only thing they can do that won't be an antitrust violation.
Why would the schools want to get rid of the transfer portal? They can easily cut kids now
That makes alot of sense 🤔
development is over at places like CU. Programs like GA , Oregon , Bama and Michigan know how to develop players who want to be part of a team that depends on them. Egos is what Colorado attracts. Everyone wants to be a star and doesn't want to play second fiddle to a sanders kid. No I in team
Don't ever confuse winning with talent development. Saban was at a program with the pedigree & infrastructure to land ready out of the box players which led to a focus on what, how & when I want it teaching. IMO that paired perfectly with his Bill B ingrained attention to detail, but it didn't lead to actual high level individual player development. That's why if you look at the end results of a Bryant & Saban the former put boatloads of guys in the NFL who made a name for themselves or greater while the later has had most of his guys dissappear at that level. It's no different for Kirby or Dan Lanning who are attempting to carbon copy his template as his disciples.
And it took years for those programs to develop, I watched them.💯✌️
@justinoff1; Seriously?? CU was a bottom feeder program for years and years and prior to Coach Sanders arrival was 1 - 11. The transformation to even when 4 games last season was monumental. You compare that to programs such as GA, AL and Ohio State with decades of development under their belts. You sound like a Coach Prime hater. The transfer portal has only been in progress for a few years now and is just really getting started with its impact to college football. Coach Saban at AL is smart enough to see what’s on the horizon in the next 5 yrs. There will no longer be player development for freshmen players moving forward in this new portal era. If a freshman isn’t getting the playing time he feels he deserves he’s hitting the portal….that’s going to hurt those 3 & 4⭐️ players who value themselves higher than they are…..that’s the point the guest was trying to make….we’re you not listening? The days of freshman being redshirted and waiting their turn are numbered…..few will be willing to wait to be properly developed.
@@PNice-ox6ei and the year before that they were 4-8. You don't scrap a whole program because of a bad season. But here we are. And they'll be 1-8 next year when they have to start from scratch again
Watch the DEVELOPMENT of the CU OL and then tell me.
Carl actually said, “Deion is too popular to go into kids homes”! Okay, right! Only in his mind. lmao! Deion will never be able to get and keep second, third, and fourth string players. Without depth he has nothing!
Don't you know how hard it is to go into neighborhoods and people's homes when you bring your own entourage with you? LOL
Anothef deion mouth piece. 😂😂😂
Exactly
Please be accurate
What has he said that's not true, coach, football player, professional analyst, or any other thing other than an uninformed emotional fan?😂
That's all you have without facts.✌️
True. He actual has a show on one of Prime’s YT channels. He’s on the payroll.
how does this affect lebrons legacy?
