When Jeezy got K Dot & Cole on American Dream in 2017, Cole was rapping his ass off and K Dot ducked the smoke by crooning and doing his crazy vocal inflections. DUCKED SMOKE. Even recently, on Drake's "First Person Shooter" which featured Cole, Cole was rapping his ass off per usual and Drake tried to skate out of it by switching the vibe at the end to have a hype track. It's not at all. Almost everything that j cole gets praised for, Kendrick does miles better than him. Kendrick's storytelling is better, Kendrick has more and better flows than cole,Kendrick does a better job at touching on certain topics than cole, and etc etc.

Cole was never sleepy he was just telling his story and a lot of people could relate to his stories or can empathize with him. he just had more of a conscious approach. he has classics even though people downplay him. born sinner, forest hill drive and 4 your eyes only most def. people downplay k.o.d Imo the message and tone of the album really hit the nail on the head for the different addictions of the world that being drugs, money, social media, love, etc. to me his worst stuff still hits at least mid but when you're constantly compared to the artistry of a k. people discredit your work if they feel his artistry is better. as of rn Cole to me is the best mc.
