  • A common question we get from our customers is if their current receiver has enough output voltage to drive their amplifier to full capability. Lonnie Vaughn dives into this topic to show what an average receiver will do with one of our XPA Amplifiers!

    Are Emotiva amps stable into loads less than 4 ohms? The specs seem to always say 4 ohm minimum so that's a bit of a concern for those of us who own Maggies or other hungry speakers.

    Crazy - I was doing a search on how to measure pre-out voltage from a receiver and lo and behold this is MY receiver. The Onkyo RZ 730. I have an Outlaw 7000X that requires 1.2V and was considering adding two 2220 but those require 1.6V. Its great to see my receive can supply that voltage (since Onkyo only provides the nominal spec of 1V) should I decide to buy those two 2220 and run the rest of my system (minus the back surrounds) with the 7000X. Also the Onkyo RZ 730 can be configured to display the volume in dB so 84.5 is actually +2.5db and 82 is reference.

  • @welderfixer

    Lonnie,
    How about a video where you explain speaker cable sizes? Everyone talks about "watts", but isn't watts=volts*amps? Isn't amps(current) the determining factor in conductor size? How much current is provided by an amplifier to X ohm speaker load at X watts? Another issue is input power supply to the audio rig. Kinda need guidance on 110/220v current supply size there also. Some folks don't know that plugging 30amps of load into a 15amp rated circuit is not a good/safe plan. Oh - all of this math, time for a drink.

    Though I get the output i need out of my Emotiva amps using my my Marantz pre-amp but, it leaves me still wondering if i ever could achieve max output form the amp as he does mention 1.7v need to reach max and quoting Marantz from their website "the RCA pre-outs can output up to 1.2V and the XLRs can output up to 2.4V" so based on the 1.2v vs 1.7v a would assume that i would not reach max but, I am not sure.

      I have the EXACT same concern. SR5015 sounds great driving my right and left RF-7 IIs and Focal 300 ICLCR 5 center to a crystal clear 80+ dB at my 13 ft listening position; but I'm always stuck wondering if an external amp could sound better. Then I discovered this issue of Marantz's preout voltage. I may never know.

      @TheNLHAZE Před měsícem

      I have the exact same problem with my Onkyo RZ250 Onkyo has released the new RZ 70 however the pre-outs are the same output so I cannot from my understanding get the maximum amount of power out no matter what amplifier I buy unless that amplifier has gain control.

    Question to Emotiva: I have a Denon DRA-800H Receiver which has Zone 2 Outs. So I presume, I would connect the Denon's Zone 2 Outs to my Emotiva A-300 AMP inputs? Thus amplifying the Zone 2 signals? With this connection, the Zone 2 signal is amplified only, correct? It is not "bridging" the two amps?

    • @EmotivaAudioCorp
      @EmotivaAudioCorp  Před 3 lety

      Correct, the signal would route through the Zone 2 outputs to the A-300 to your speakers. When connected to the outputs on the Denon, it should mute the internal amplification to those channels.

    A question for emotiva.
    I'm thinking of getting the
    Onkyo tx-rz50 together with the Base X A3 for the LCR.
    The specs on the Onkyo tx-rz50 pre-out is 1v.. is that enough to move the base X A3?

      I'm wondering the same thing. I have a Pioneer SC-LX904 with pre-out of 1v Thinking about getting the XPA-3 for my LCR. Not sure if that will be sufficient enough for that amp. 🤔

      I have that Onkyo and I also have a BASSX-3 I do not feel as getting the full potential as well I asked a guy at Crutchfield about this he was completely stumped he was like you pre-outs will put out enough power I tried to explain to him I measured the power And also see the out put on paper how much,power this receiver puts out....No I'm not getting the amount of full power however I do love their amplifiers.

      @nickmandara8231 Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, with all channels driven you are only getting close to 100 watts of power with your Yamaha. Going with the XPA-5, you will get more than twice that power and really open up your soundstage and system performance. It will be a night and day difference.
