Soak your linen in the bath tub for 4-6 hours and then wash.. it will make your linen feel very soft and much easier to iron!! I make historical clothing with linen and I now ALWAYS rehydrate the material, it seems to help it ALOT!

    • @mspatti
      @mspatti Před 5 lety

For linen that you wear, this would be the case. It depends on what she wants her curtains to look like. If she wants the crisp look for her curtains, then just wash and damp dry and iron on linen setting with starch if desired. I can't imagine ironing ten yards of curtains myself willingly, so soft curtains might be the look she is going for. But, linen will drip dry wrinkle free if you soak wash it, and then look brand new with a quick iron. I try to catch them at the dampness that will quickly iron dry and crisp. I have had linen garments for more than 10 years that respond to this drip dry care beautifully.

I would actually like to challenge you to do this again but only have $100 or less to spend. Not including groceries or bills. I think it would be interesting to see what you prioritize through the week. There are a lot of people who live on less!

Well many people couldn’t dream of spending that much in a month on miscellaneous expenses, let alone a week. The reason I’d like to see her do this as a “challenge” is to see what she prioritizes during a regular week of spending. That’s all.

That was a very heavy spending week. I find it more helpful to look at my money "monthly" rather than weekly. Because, as you said- some weeks are bigger than others. Even grocery shopping - some weeks it's just perishables, while other weeks I stock up on more. My goal is to on average keep the monthly spending (groceries, items, gas etc. - not counting utility bills etc.) under 1,000 for the month. That said, some months could be as low at 600 and others over 2000. It just all has to balance out to about 1,000 a month.

I personally feel that you are a great example of a God Loving Christian lady. While you live with conviction, faith and beliefs, you also enjoy what life has to offer. I wish my mom hadn't preached hell, fire and brimestone into our heads, as I really found a hard time to balance the fun of living, and the dread of being a sinner. At 65, I'm still learning. Thanks for sharing your life with us. God Bless 💖

  • @donnaallgaier-lamberti3933

I spent extra money this week myself. I had my granddaughter with me and we had a "cooking intensive." I spent $6.00 for two chapter books for her to read and $4.99 so that she had a good kitchen timer to use in her cooking. And food, as an 11-year-old who eats like a teenager, I spent a ton more on groceries but she is worth every dollar!! I miss her already! We are seniors on a fixed income and we definitely DO budget. We are considered quite frugal!! We have a budget on the computer (using Excell) and if it is not in the budget we don't buy it. My splurge this month was replacing my 20-year-old crockpot that burned out. I bought a new Instant Pot - a big expense for me at $89.00 but this will pay for itself over time in electric savings and time. We use a slow cooker a LOT and it should last for many, many years!! Our largest monthly expense is in buying our groceries. (We don't eat out) I only buy organic and GMO-free foods so our groceries are pretty expensive. But our health is our wealth!!! We shop at a grocery store where all purchases and medications receive points which translates to money saved coupons. Also, I use a Discover Card which gives me CASH BACK every month. We only eat out on a birthday. anniversary or Valentines Day - date days.

@@alexataglance0303 I grew up in a christian family (I am christian) and were forced/teached/learned to wear modest clothes. I was forbidden to wear pants (trousers) in public. I really didn´t understand why ? Why in the winter time I had to freeze? even with all the explanations I was not convinced... Today. I wear what I want and what I like, with respect for the different occasions. and modest--- I don´t feel the need to show nothing of my body to other than my husband, but I am free to wear exactly what I want. 1 Corinthians 10:23 I have the right to do anything,” you say-but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”-but not everything is constructive..

Me too! I’m not Christian, but always felt uncomfortable showing off my body, even though it is a “conventionally attractive” one lol. Dressing up to go out with my stomach out just made me feel self-conscious, but it was what everyone else did. I thought dressing modestly meant dressing like a nun. But since I started watching Megan and a couple of Mormon youtubers, I realised that actually I can look super cute and not show so much skin. It really does make a difference. She also made me want to take up sewing, I’m asking for a sewing machine for Christmas 😊 If anyone knows any modest shops in the UK, let me know

Yes, linen comes in pure white - the fiber is bleached. 10 yards of linen for $70 is a very good price, especially if it's 55+ inches wide. Linen is one of the oldest cultivated fibers and samples that are over 5,000 years old have been found in tombs. It's an easy care fabric, taking washing (cool temps, gentle cycle) and line drying very well. If you are making draperies from your linen, it will last longer if lined - it keeps sunshine and moisture off the linen, which keeps it from deteriorating. Also NEVER use the dryer for linen - it will grind the fibers together and wear it down much quicker. I have curtains & drapes that are decades old and look brand new - I only line dry and then iron them before re-hanging. You can Google "care instructions for linen fabric". Good luck, and enjoy your fabric and the satisfaction of making your own household items.

There are always rare times when more money gets spent. We live very frugal and debt free. We don't keep up with current trends (decor, clothing, etc.). But, yesterday spent $1500 because we have to replace our 29 year old refrigerator and dishwasher. I also don't follow a budget, but very mindful of what we spend. Groceries are our usual staples, but if there is a good sale on something thank keeps- I buy a bunch making the days purchase more than usual. Saves in the long run. You are blessed to have some special girlfriend time. I just went to lunch with some church friends on Wednesday! One of our friends moved from Indiana to South Carolina and was back in town for a visit.

I have never made a comment on any other media but I want to share from my heart to yours. In 2010 while home on leave from the Air Force my 23yr old son was killed. He was riding with a girl that was doing distracted-texting while driving. I fought for a bill against texting and distracted driving law in Ohio. It's not as stiff as it should be but I think of it as a memorial to my son. Megan I pray that you would please set an example to others and stop driving while doing some of your video! Thanks and God Bless you!

I’m not a doctor, but it’s sounds just like plantar fasciitis. I used to work in the footwear department of a running/hiking/outdoors store called REI and we had a lot of backpackers, marathon runners, just all kids of people on their feet. Plantar fasciitis is incredibly common, especially for people who tend to over use their feet. A really good pair of shoes is such a life saver! You’re spending a little more up front, but you’re getting back some quality of life and when you take care of your shoes they can last a very very long time. I wear Brooks running shoes everyday (I work in a hospital) and I haven’t had a flare up in a long time. I also know someone who wore Chacos sandals everyday to cure her plantar fasciitis if you’re into that look. Haha. But seriously, I would look for a running specialty store to have someone fit you for some good shoes. I believe the closest REI Co-Op to you would be in Philadelphia. Probably a trek, but if you find yourself in there, I would pop in and have someone help fit you! Good luck with everything! I LOVE your channel!!

(I’m a year behind on your videos)! Times have changed! When I was your age, I was living in the seventies! Can you imagine how much prices have gone up since then? I was a teacher nine months out of the year and we had a grandmother who came to our home and took care of our two children...got them off to school after I left for my school. Was there when we got home and she had the house clean, just because she wanted to and we gave her bonuses for that, as it was appreciated. I often left meals ready for the crockpot and she started those for me. Same for oven roasts, etc. The week you kept track of your expenses was seven times more than our babysitting expense for a week! We only ate out on Friday nights. We loved cooking and grilling out at home. My parents kept us stocked on home canned foods and my husband’s parents had beef cattle, so we were “set”! I made a lot of my own clothes. We lived in a military area, where people were always getting transferred in and out...tons of garage sales! We were always fortunate and able to save...all for our kids’ college and long summer vacations. We never know when work might get slow or there’s illness in the family. We felt savings on eating out were the best ways to save. When our stomachs were full, we were well satisfied, regardless of what we’d eaten. I liked to cook and bake. Also, I was more of a home-body than you are. I think it’s because I had no siblings. I preferred my kids having their friends play at our house and sometimes we had ten neighbor kids at our house at one time! I made our own pizzas and the kids loved that. I think it’s wonderful that you keep track of what you spend and that you enjoy sewing and cooking. Your children are beautiful and they have gorgeous parents!

Linen is a great fabric. Makes beautiful draperies. Wash in warm water and dry in dryer...that way you know its shrunk! Linen wrinkles like crazy but is a beautiful fabric! I always say "embrace the wrinkles"! I wear linen a lot in the summer. I have one set of linen curtains in my living room. I usually wash and hand them up wet on rod to dry. Or I have ironed them and hung them up as well. It will depend on the structure of the fabric whether if its a heavy linen or light linen as how you will do the header of the curtain. It may need a stabilizer depending on if you do rod pocket, grommets or pinch pleats. Hope that helps!

Your linen bargain looks great and will make super curtains! You can easily tell whether it's truly linen by scrunching up a handful: if it creases instead of springing back, it's linen. You'd do well to wash it before you measure and cut for curtains as it will shrink a little. Better to have the shrinkage over and done with before you make the curtains. Whatever you do, line dry the fabric, though; tumble dryers are death to linen! It should wash on a 30 or 40 degree cycle. Can't wait to see you making those. Tape or tabs or..?

I have no idea why this video popped up in my feed, but I enjoyed it and I will probably check out your other videos 😊. I grew up in Lancaster and still have my brother in E-town and my dad lives in Marietta and I have aunts, uncles, and cousins all over the county. I’m not Mennonite but I always admired their way of life even when I was a kid. Now I live in California (and I have for over 30 years) but I still have part of me in PA ❤️. You were a pleasure to watch and I love your enthusiasm 😊

Look up exercises for plantar fasciitis. That MIGHT help your pain. I currently have heel/arch pain due to a surgery that had me nonweight bearing for almost 3 month. Plus the surgery was for my Achilles. Long story short... Ice, firm massaging the areas, and stretching- lots of stretching.

This has made me think before I buy! (I do cheat sometimes lol) But I am so much better. Have a great weekend!

It sounds to me like you have Plantar Fasciitis! It’s no fun, but there are some things that you can do to help the pain. Most notably, not wearing flat shoes. Make sure that your shoes have arch support and/or get an orthodic! Love your videos-from a fellow PA mom!

For sure, if it were every week. She says it's not the case. Everyone circumstances are different. My husband and I are struggling a lot at the moment and I couldn't dream of spend that amount but in another lifetime I have spent even more in a week. IMO it's about making the best with what we have and our circumstances.

I have been a stay at home mom for 2 months now after leaving my nursing job after 12 yrs. Thankfully we moved out of NY and our mortgage is not expensive plus my husband still commutes there and makes enough money for us not to really struggle. I did have to stop spending on things I didn’t need. This week is the first week since staying home that I spend around that same amount she did. But most of it was groceries for the house that I needed to replenish. But usually it’s around $20-50 a week if that. We also don’t eat meat or dairy or processed foods and eat out maybe twice a month which helps.

You may have a ‘Plantar fasciitis’ under your foot. Don’t worry it’s common, just look it up online. You can also roll a tennis ball under your sore foot back and forth to exercise the muscle or a bottle of water that’s been frozen. I pray you find out and it heals quickly🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Mennonites are good God loving people and they are so kind. Most of my friends were Mennonite so thank you again for these videos and showing the difference between the Amish and mennonites. I will always have that in my heart.

Then $198.00 on 2 bath sheet one bath mat and one hand towel. 2 donna covers and one set of King size sheets. But I have discarded one set of old towels and hopefully 3 doona covers to justify the doona covers and I did need the sheets. Oh well. It is what it is. Love from Australia ❤️

Megan it sounds like plantar fasciitis. Orthotics will vastly improve this. Also freeze a water bottle and roll your foot on it after excercise. See if that helps relieve your pain. One other thing buy a better shoe. It is worth the expense to buy a really good sandal with great support also a good walking shoe. May save you an X-ray bill and another dr bill.

Good Morning, Megan, (Disclaimer: I am NOT a medical professional!) It sounds like what you're experiencing may be a stress fracture. Your doctor may advise that you "rest" (decrease impact) for a few weeks, get more padded shoes, and /or recommend an OTC med. (This is based on personal experience.) Good luck!

Megan, the best investment I ever made was having my feet fixed. It was so painful before surgeries and then the surgery itself was truly painful but in the end, I can wear any shoe and do anything and they never hurt. Also, I’d been buying shoes too big to accommodate certain areas but no more! From a 7.5 to a 6! Okay, my breast reduction was good money spent as well! I’ll never understand women who want large breasts.
