    It wasn't just a question of quitting, it was also the fact that the Manager had no time to talk to him for weeks. Just because he thought he knew what his subordinate was wanting to discuss, and he was wrong.

    My brother is fighting a sexism lawsuit against his employer because he has worked there for 8 years at minimum wage. He is a CNA, all the new people who are hired make more than him and all the male employees make less than the female employees. Like 10 buck an hour less. He makes $9.87 an hour and all the new female employees make 20 an hour. Same position and hours.

    • @thebookwaswaybetter2827
      @thebookwaswaybetter2827 Před 2 lety +6

      You know why? Because they would never be able to get anybody in the doors if they had a sign outside that said “now hiring at 9.87 an hour!”
      Grocery stores do this all the time, if you’re working an easily replaceable position, they’ll just keep working you at a discount until you quit. They have no value in long term employees. Your brother needs to get out of there immediately and stop wasting his life at that job. He could definitely get a better wage somewhere with 8 years of experience under his belt.

      In many large corporations and even in smaller corporations it is considered to be absolutely inappropriate to discuss specifics in email. Discussing that you're leaving the company via email is not only inappropriate but unprofessional. Professionals do these things in person. Hence why op made it very clear that the meeting was about his future at the company. He intentionally dragged that out knowing that his boss was going to be an ass. I think it's a brilliant idea and it worked. Also every time I quit from a company my resignation was in writing and I gave it to my boss. You don't just write out your resignation and leave it on somebody's desk. It can get lost, looked over or ignored.

    Well the thing about bi polar disorder is once a person with it gets a dopamine hit (like you get the first time you steal something and don't get caught) it compounds. Most meds for bi polar disorder tend to focus on leveling the person out(i.e. the dopamine hit doesn't hit as hard as it should). So if a crap thief also has bi polar disorder you can't know if it's just the bi polar disorder promoting a behavior that wasn't corrected in a timely fashion or if the individual was just always a crappy individual and the bi polar disorder enhanced it.

Did she think that if she wasn't there, she could somehow blame everything on someone else? Or was she looking to be able to tell other companies that she was fired for 'needing to leave early' and spin some sob story, rather than admit that she'd caused an entire store to quit?

    As a supervisor over many types of devs I was able to make a program that details a devs progress. The two key features I love is that I made a list of key words that helps sort the notes such as typing #!Username will send me a direct text alert but #?Username is the non urgent but requires reviewing. The second is a system that is goal based with progress reports and possible issues that may need fixed. The workers love it as they can pull up a file and see all the relative info without extra info and it also keeps relivent info easy to access.

    The quitting story 50 something minutes in, it's not the vague emails or him not simply emailing his notice, the OP was pointing out a critical flaw in the current management. If you're a large company and you see you have a manager throwing staff under the bus and ignoring and actively avoiding them, that's a red flag. Yes, the OP technically wasn't super in the right with how he quit, the higher ups saw that manager as being the core of the issue. Especially when their other candidate for the position jumped ship. OP absolutely could have gotten in trouble but the manager was the bigger problem so OP was left alone. Simple case of priorities.

      Concur with this comment. Also note the threat to take OP to court. Suspect that the company wasn't willing to let the court hear about a manager who refused to speak with an employee for weeks and "assumed" he knew what the employee wanted to discuss.
      We also don't know what the company policy or the country's rules / laws are about resignation notices.

    Re: micromanager boss - ever heard of the Peter Principle? Kinda a pop psychology thing in the 70's (or 80's, can't remember exactly.) This theory actually made (and continues to make) common sense. The main gist of it is that people are promoted til they reach the highest range of their Incompetence. In other words people who are competent, maybe even exceptional, get promoted UNTIL they reach a level where they AREN'T competent, aka the highest level of their Incompetence. And there they stay. Instead of being returned to the duties they CAN handle, they just remain @the level that they can't handle. No more promotions, but usually wreaking havoc on underlings and peers.

    General principal: When a manager harasses you AND YOUR COLLEAGUES, he/ she is behaving immorally to others, and has been doing so for a while, and is also committing crimes. Don't tell HR about them harassing you. Tell the AG or their regulatory agency about their felonies. Never get your persecutor a slap on the wrist, when you can get them annihilated. You are not the only one they have harmed, or will harm until they are stopped.

    The story where OP doesn't get the director promotion kinda pisses me off and calls its authenticity into question. If he was told he was being transferred and promoted, there would have been a paper trail. The new boss would have had no choice but to promote him. If the new boss chose not to promote him, then he should have sued for the promotion as he had the paper trail to fall back on. So either the stories not authentic, or OP is just a spineless doormat.

    The narrator is annoyingly North American at times. You guys get shit on when it comes to workers rights and it really does show when it comes to how submissive you are. When a company does not choose to exercise its hypothetical legal rights to the fullest extent, that shocks you so much that it sounds 'off'? Wow. As if the natural consequences of quitting a job without the proper notice is OBVIOUSLY being sued.
    I'm in the UK. One of my colleagues decided to quit immediately without proper notice. Guess what happened? If you guessed absolutely nothing, congratulations. 🎉

    • @KarmaStoriesPodcast
      @KarmaStoriesPodcast  Před měsícem

      We can quit a job with no notice with absolutely no problem as long as you don't have a contract saying otherwise. This is why you have to be careful what you sign when you start jobs in USA/Canada.
      Annoyingly North American. LOL yeah. I'm Canadian. Literally an offshoot of the UK not too long ago.

    • @ShozzleMeNoz
      @ShozzleMeNoz Před měsícem

      @@KarmaStoriesPodcast Surprised you're replying but fair enough. I know you're Canadian. That is why I said North American. I actually watch (listen to mostly) your content quite a lot. I enjoy the stories and I've always loved visiting Canada but when it comes to workers rights and working environment, it sounds like Canada is closer to the American way of employment and I'm just not a fan of it and I don't like the submissive mindset people adopt in response to it.
      Notice is in almost every employment contract (certainly if you are an employee). It's just in the UK, the likelihood of being sued for quitting on the spot would be near to nil. You would have to be high enough to have strategic level information. In that situation, it would be gardening leave or you might well get sued. It's not to say you couldn't be sued at a lower level for leaving without proper notice but there is not a culture of it happening.
      It's worth bearing in mind that while the majority of these stories (enjoyable as they are), come from North America, some of them might come from countries where getting sued for quitting without proper notice is just not remotely normal.
