Over 35 years studying music I never looked at a class with so much truth and clarification, I'm speechless to say how grateful I am, music is the soul of the planet and all those who have this function are angels, strength and prosperity, gratitude eternal for the person in charge of this channel.
Hi I wanted to start analyzing him as well, but I'm a newbie in music theory. Which pieces of his would you recommend to start with? I'm a pianist and I played many of his pieces, but never analyzed anything. Should I start with the nocturnes or maybe preludes? What do you recommend?
10:57 Enharmonic writings in classical music are crucial since they indicate the direction of resolution. That chord in bar 11 was written by Chopin as "Ab(bass) C D F#", with an augmented sixth, Ab and F# both wanting to move to G. This is a "French augmented sixth chord (Fr+6)", defined by the b6(almost always in the bass)-1-2-#4 structure, tending to resolve to the V of that key, functioning as a predominant.
This video certainly was a very rewarding use of my time. Thank you very much. I've always thought of this amazing prelude as a jazz piece - in fact, that's how I teach it. It lends itself to improvisation very well. Thank you for your wonderfully clear analysis.
Thank you so much for this. Examining pieces like this not only serves to teach, but also preserves music that deserves to live forever. I think Chopin would be grateful.
I like to analyze other styles of music this way. You made an outstanding analysis of this music by Chopin and how it relates to modern styles. Your presentation is interesting and the content is very educational. Thanks for posting it here on CZcams!
Hi! Love these analysis. Feedback : I feel like you covered it at a faster pace in this one than in the Debussy one. The pace of La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin suited me more, but I wonder how the other viewers feel. Anyway, I love how you blend the languages and styles in the name of your love for music. Your work is really inspiring. Plus, it provides a very handy toolbox for composition. Thank you very much for the time, brains and consideration you put into these videos.
Wow! Thanks! I think I understand less than 10% but still, it is amazing! You really need to do beginners videos - just the basic chords for instance. I have the feeling this is the kind of learning material I've been searching for 30 years.
loved this re appreciation of composers and later arrangements by contemporary musicians ..also as a dancer I feel the music and music variations in my body :] Sadly ..probably obviously no ability / education to understand or follow the tech side of it all that you were trying to explain.. but loved how you highlighted musical talent, clever composition, arrangements :}
You should do this song as like a swing ballad kind of thing with a jazz trio, plus maybe some other chopin songs. That's kind of what Jacques loussier did with his trio and it sounds amazing :)
WOW. Amazing video. I play the classical piano and feel so many emotions when playing Chopin. However, I don't have a lot of theoretical music knowledge and this very well explained video helped me a lot to understand my favorite prelude. THANK YOU
That reminded me of Pavane, Op. 50 by Gabriel Faure. The combination of the two clarinets playing in thirds while the strings play their descending line, being backed by the rest of strings playing pizzicato is a magical thing. Perfect voice leading. Makes me tear up every time.
True! I missed it. It's just a bit strange to look at the sheet music in the beginning while listening to a version that doesn't mach what is written, it was a bit confusing, but I understand that for the purpose of analysis you prefer this version. Thanks

Thank you again. Love this. Chopin is my favorite Classical (Romantic) composer.

The D-flat in the Chopin is really the Neapolitan chord. You can find that in Bach a lot also.
Fantastic video, thanks!

Pure gold. At the 6 bar, C is minor, however. Many thanks

Thank you for such an excellent informative video. I wonder if you've come across Bengt Hallberg's version of this prelude.
You should do this song as like a swing ballad kind of thing with a jazz trio, plus maybe some other chopin songs. That's kind of what Jacques loussier did with his trio and it sounds amazing :)
Tritone sub is a fancy neopolitan sixth

That Ab7 in bar 11 strikes me as a french sixth also, as he's reaching G(V). What do you think?
Thanks for the awesome content, by the way!
I think it's possible to analyse Wagner with jazz analysis. In another video perhaps :D
have you listen to hermeto pascoal? , I'd like to see an analysis of his music :O
DO THIS WITH MAHLER PLEASE
Nick no te olvides.del subtitulo en español graciaaaaaas
👍
I have a question concerning the Abdim/B in bar 10. In my book this is just a plain Bdim... What am I missing? Can anyone elucidate?
idea for the next video, ravel pavane pour une infante defunte, its also quite jazzy :)
That reminded me of Pavane, Op. 50 by Gabriel Faure. The combination of the two clarinets playing in thirds while the strings play their descending line, being backed by the rest of strings playing pizzicato is a magical thing. Perfect voice leading. Makes me tear up every time.
Jazz notation isn't really the most convenient to analyse this piece's chords, is it?
Where the pdf please
Água e vinho* not y vinho
E natural not flat.
It is very good channel but we wanna to translate that arabic 😍
Where ?
Excelente! Comparto un breve análisis de chopin + ejercicios czcams.com/video/UioP7wyfm0k/video.html
Napolitain sixth
Nice video! Just one little correction. On bar 6 the second chord is Cm not C and the melody note is Eb not E. Keep up the good work!
I covered this ambiguity in the video more than once!
True! I missed it. It's just a bit strange to look at the sheet music in the beginning while listening to a version that doesn't mach what is written, it was a bit confusing, but I understand that for the purpose of analysis you prefer this version. Thanks
Some one should translate it into russian! There will be a lot of subscribers from my country, cause we have not so much good content on our language.
