Yeah yeah yeah… A power chord, simple.
But I never thought of using a power chord, perhaps the simplest of a chord shape, as a template to plot out the rest of my intervals.
I’m actually mad at myself for not seeing this before, it should have been obvious. Now, I literally can’t “unsee” this. What an amazing tool a power chord is, after all!
Thanks to you Chris, now I’m sitting here, playing a power chord first, then reaching about with various fingers to “plink” out different dyads, and deeply meditating with my ears, on how each interval interacts with the chosen root… Lovely lesson!

CHRIS, What is the correct musical of the "interval distance" per each chord change? its not called an interval. Also you should make a lesson about "making the changes" in guitar solos so the notes pop out you're making the changes. You didn't mention anything at all when you "invert" the intervals like P5 to P4 and M3 to m6 or m7 to M2 , you have to know your inverted intervals which you can make a lesson about inverted intervals. Just giving out suggestions don't get mad at me

Great methodology, maybe you could have explained why you chose the key of A, so you could switch to the open A string to play the Major 2nd.

Great lesson Chris. About six months ago I started harmonizing a scale using intervals. I concentrated on thirds and sevenths. It has helped my ear training greatly. Question, would you recommend spending time where the root was the higher pitch in the respective interval? For now I have enough on my plate just applying today’s lesson as you’ve described. I wonder if my question is a law of diminishing returns or if later that might be useful as well. Curious of your comments. Is that something you spent much time on as you were learning the instrument?
Great question...and a rabbit hole as well. When you put the root on top you will run into "inversion" math. Every interval has a "mirror" interval as it's inversion.
So a root on the bottom third interval, when inverted, becomes a 6th. The general rule is that any interval you play has an inverted interval (up or down an octave) that adds up to "9."
Might be a bit confusing, but if you run into this, hopefully this will have helped.
That math adds to 9 stumped me for a bit. Octave has 8 notes where does 9 come from.
I Finally realized
Inverted 3rds = 6ths etc. 3 up from root or 6 down from root
3 and 6
2 and 7
4 and 5.. All add to 9
It is useful to learn when you are ready for it

Custom shop, fiesta red, I pulled all the pups and stuck in a Seymour Duncan “Pearly Gates” humbucker.
Do I really know them? :) This is a great one to add to the warmup.

This guitar was a gift from a student of mine. It is a wonderful instrument and I love it. When I was young in the late 70s and early 80s I played explorers a lot, this axe is a great reminder of those times :)

Now that I've gotten used to feeling like I'm in Antarctica, and gotten my indoor camping set up as though I'm outside, which is how it felt the last two weeks really except for one day when I hiked out for provisions before the next subzero dives, I can maintain consciousness under the covers better. I am gathering from all the comments that what the thing is here, is to catch on to the to the kinesthetic shapes of these in this way, which will be easier then to apply all back and forth, from the nut to the bridge and back. That is a concept that I hadn't thought of before which will help my brain cut to the chase faster than its usual going around the block to pain stakingly plot out individual notes. ❣️🤪Thank you Chris! 💘 Got my brain off the railroad tracks there. 😂
