Me and my hunting buddy got lost once. He remembered when he was a kid to fire three shots in the air every 30 minutes.
After a couple of hours, i said that I hoped someone would come along soon, we were almost out of arrows.
The best bang for your buck in signaling may honestly be a cheap sports whistle. If all else fails, you can only yell for so long, but you can whistle with every exhale.
Get a referee shirt and scream out a call .
Someone will show up very soon to argue with you .

For anyone keeping flares: after a while (around the 10-15 year mark in my experience), the striker cap material of some road flares can degrade to the point where it's really hard or impossible to get them lit because it flakes off when you scrape the flare on it. Make sure you keep multiples in your car plus some extra sandpaper or other similar striking material to avoid this.

Would be fun to see some content on comms and various options around it. FRS, GMRS, Ham, shortwave, etc. I think as most people try and better themselves, comms is most often overlooked. Not as sexy, but if you want to know what is taking place outside of your FOV, it’s what you’re going to need.

“Improvise a whistle” sounds funny, but you can whistle like a motherfucker with an acorn cap. I’m certain there’s videos on CZcams of how to do it, I’m pretty sure that’s how I learned. You can get so goddamn loud and high pitched with it it’s like a dog whistle if you want it to be. Anything of similar shape will also work, bottle cap, whatever. Anything shaped like a shallow bowl. I’ve used the little indent in the lid of my blender bottle before. I have a handful of the thin clear-ish water bottle caps off your average cheap water bottle from a case of them floating around in all of my backpacks so I’ll always have some and not really have to spend a bunch of time looking for them. They take up basically 0 space and are insanely useful.

Out of total curiosity regarding the Mylar blanket, how does blending in with the environment keep you warm?
I do get your point about having a bright colored Mylar blanket for signaling.
The mylar blanket is what helps keep you warm, not the color of it. They come in various colors. Green - for if you need to cover and still be somewhat concealed. Pink/Orange - for if you'd prefer to be seen.

Haha, no we didn't plan it. We filmed this a few weeks ago. Texted Adam when we saw his go live and we had a good laugh about it. I'm glad our videos turned out to be very different. Each being helpful in their own way. I guess great minds think alike!

All Dirty Civilians should consider the value of communicating events in video.
Video evidence is priceless and if it's admissable in court, all the better.
Consider the body worn camera like the #AxisW101 or #AxonBody3 as used in LE and commercial applications. Validity of evidence being their most valuable asset.
Consumer models are valuable in their own right and if they are tamper proof and the device is handed over on scene, the chain of custody could protect the validity the same as a proprietary chain of custody, so either Industry Standard or consumer quality, CHOOSE ONE.
Besides, cameras reveal our own Honor. They will force us to hold ourselves to the highest standards of Honesty and Truth, whatever we may be struggling against. It will also prove Who Did What and Who Didn't.
TRUTH is a double edged sword. It cuts both ways, but it ALWAYS cuts clean and that allows for clean healing and smaller scars.

Well, many animals in nature use bright colors as a warning signal. So I suppose you could dye your hair bright colors. I know those are the kinds of people I actively avoid so I think it's a valid tactic.
I prefer to master the wendigo call. Once the forest starts making crazy noises people tend to get the hell out of Dodge.
