  • This is the first part of a look through the build process for my current diorama project and we start off with building a Pz III from Academy.......with a few additions.
    A while ago I was sent a box of 3D resin printed aftermarket details and tracks from Heavy Hobby and I've used a few of them to enhance the details of the Academy kit. I also show you how I made a scratch built Jerry Can rack and some sandbags from 2 part epoxy putty. There's also a look at enhancing weld details and steel texture on the plastic model for a more realistic appearance. I'm hoping this will be a fortnightly upload as we progress through the project showing more detail than perhaps I usually do but if you have any questions then just leave them in the comments below.
    The Heavy Hobby products were sent to me free of charge under no obligation to say 'nice things' but I have to say that I have been very impressed by the quality of the details and they make a worthy addition to any model. The tracks are particularly impressive, as although you have to insert two connecting pins per link they are a snap fit and once assembled the tracks are fully workable with no glue required. Please note that at the time of assembly I didn't realise there are two types of pins for the track included in the box, one type for the inside of the track and one for the outside......Doah!!!..... / heavyhobby-10021614571...

    Those tracks!!! No messy glue, or residue clean up. Just snap together. Same with other resin parts. No messing with metal and superglue. I'm sold.

    @MikeUSA67 Před 2 lety +5

    And again your craftsmanship is simply stunning! But I do have one question: I get the sandbags in front of the drivers hatch - but why on top of the turret? The commanders cupola is obviously higher - so what exactly are they protecting against?

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  Před 2 lety

      Your guess is as good as mine.....I just saw it on a resin aftermarket set and thought it looked neat 👍

    • @jacobs_models995
      @jacobs_models995 Před 2 lety +1

      I would say strafing/artillery. The turret roofs on these earlier panzers were quite thin.

  • @grantpritchard7492
    @grantpritchard7492 Před 2 lety +2

    The 2 things that really inspired me the most are probably everyday skills that all modellers do but are still great nonetheless. 1) using the hobby saw to make wood grain and the baby wipe to simulate a tarp. I've been looking at how to make miniature cloth replicas for awhile and never seen that done before. Thanks.
    I have to ask though do you think those resin extras are worth the price? They're more costly than the base model kit.

    • @CWModelling
      @CWModelling  Před 2 lety +1

      I think the amount you want to spend on extras is a personal choice so I can't really say if they're 'worth it' .......All I'll say is that I wouldn't have used them if they hadn't been sent to me👍
