I've had a lot of questions about how I structure my day-to-day work as a self-employed creator, so I thought I'd take you guys along for the ride for one randomly chosen day of my life! This day was both abnormal and totally common - like every day is in this very weird, very unpredictable job.

This was so nice to watccchhh!! It's weird how inspirational just watching someone organize their day and go about it, even if falling short of their expectations for the day, can be!
I love getting some insight into other people's days, so I'm glad people are enjoying some insight into mine!! Even though it feels so normal for me, it's something we so rarely talk about publicly.
you two could do an amazing voice acting/D&D collab!
Brizzy and Ginny chit chattin! This makes me happy. :D
“we’re friends, you’re visiting, be polite.” this is an amazing way to describe internet manners when it comes to commenting on a hardworking creator like you! love ya ginny
“2019 so I don’t wear a wrist watch” 😂😂😂
apparently, ginny doesn't have a smartwatch
Over one shoulder: "Hey Google, what's the time?"
Over the other: an actual clock.
Ginny's version of "Ok, so I did some procrastinating!" = ~60 minutes
My version of "Ok, so I did some procrastinating!" = "Ugh! What time is it? OMFG IT'S TUESDAY!?!?!"
Aaaand my version
"The year is suddenly 2019 and my wrist watch is outdated? WTF HAPPENED?!?!?!?!"
Also, she had to make lunch and eat. That's just a normal lunch break one should have during the day and not procrastination.. She's too harsh with herself.
@@Deeomi - I'm willing to chalk that one up as snarky self-deprecating humor. She does that a lot.
Ginnnyyyy anytime I'm feeling unproductive or unmotivated working from home I come back and re-watch this video - I'm sure everyday has it's ups and downs, but I think your success is a testament to your organization and consistency, even if every day is a little different. Thanks for being inspiring!
Oh my gosh, this makes me so happy to hear!! Good luck with your work!!
Your "Small Things" list is what I like to call my quick wins. Little things that need done and will add up to helping in the long run but often get shuffled because they don't seem important. :-)
Oooh, I really like "quick wins"! I'm totally stealing that name!
Same!
That was actually a VERY useful insight on how to self-manage independent work-from-home time. I know you didn't know this at the time, but during this quarantine time, a LOT of us are struggling to manage our own lives right now, and this is super helpful.
As your friend that was visiting I want to say that you seem very busy so thank you for taking time for me (us).
omg this is so cute, haha. Thank you!!
I would definitely watch these if you made more! It’s fun to see what pro creatives do during the day!
'we're friends, you're visiting, be polite.'!! yeah!!
0:59 lookin at that glass of icy water, I really want some cold water. I’m gonna go get some.
Update: that was some good water
Good that you're staying hydrated. Speaking of, you just reminded me that I was trying to be better at that myself. I should go get something to drink.
Update: Just had some tea. It was good tea.
I'm glad it was good water.
That was sweet. Thanks for inviting us in - you are doing MUCH better than me at organising day. Will look to your tips for future self pep talks :)
Thank you for this video, I just started taking on commissions this year and working as a full time artist from home (whilst being a full-time mom of a two year old). I have had a terrible week of not getting enough done and sometimes I wonder if this is right for me but seeing another creative person post just a normal (aka not normal) day is really very helpful. I don't know how to convey properly, that this video, that shows us a glimpse of your life and probably not meant to be particularly inspiring, is in fact incredibly inspiring. You're doing it, creative and earning a living so I feel like I can do it too. Thanks. My bad week got a little brighter.
That makes me SO happy to hear!! It's so easy to allow ourselves to believe that everyone else has it figured out and we're the only ones struggling, mostly because people are so much more likely to post about their successes than their failures online. But none of us are perfect, and none of us are content machines!!
CZcams appearance - enthusiastic and personable, spontaneous but polished. Actuality - works bloody hard at all of it.
Thank you for making this! It's really insightful to see the "behind the scenes" for creatives. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who tries to cram too much into a to-do list!
I once read a REALLY good tip on to-do lists, which basically said: Only write down the things you actually plan on going, and then do them in a specific order. Otherwise, you just pick the thing that sounds easiest/least unpleasant, and you give yourself an excuse to never get to the truly essential tasks. It's something I DO try to take into account, but I'm just so overambitious that it's very challenging to do!! Really good thing to keep in mind, though.
@@GinnyDi That's great advice!
Wow that really is a lifestyle had no idea how busy and time taking things you do can be, all the power for you Ginny for doing this for living, love the work you do keep it up
i for sure wouldn't be able to pull that life off
Really enjoyed this video!
I absolutely adore and would love to see more like this! I'm obsessed with how people organise themselves so would love to see a video on your bullet journalling system if possible! You've also inspired me to start writing little lists each day that are more easy to achieve as I also tend to way over plan my day!
Watching this was weirdly comforting and inspiring? Especially just for someone who is a fellow creative who seems to be a little lost as to what to do with my time during the day often (even when I know there's a million things that need to be done!). So thanks for inviting us in, this was really nice to watch and this style of kind of almost vlogging/follow along with my day video is really nice from you. I certainly wouldn't complain if you did another one in the future!
Generally I begin the day with 'Not this shit again', and from there, well... We just kinda see what happens.
Edit: mad props to the drive and hustle you put out being a self-employed creative. It's legitimately impressive to me.
PPS: I think it'd be cool to see how you go about your design process and I guess just general legwork once you have decided what's next for you as far as your cosplay goes.
Even though this isn't a vlog, I think you are really good at vlogging. I always love your content! Keep up the good work Ginny!
This was awesome!! I'd totally watch another video about a different kind of day
You always seem so upbeat and happy. Makes me smile. Thank you.
I think it's really impressive how you push through the day with tasks that aren't much fun. Most of us require a boss to keep us working on stuff like that.
It's worth it, because other days I spend the entire day playing a character, or spend a day making music!! The boring days balance out with the exciting ones.
I think it was so cool getting to see the behind the scenes of all of your work! Normally we only see the end result and none of the work that goes into it, so it’s really interesting to see the entire process of some of the things you do.
This is honestly a really charming video, and I see nothing worth judging you badly for!
It was fun to watch (yes, I just found it) and kind of relatable. It's hard to know what you'll have time for; I struggle with that constantly.
I'm a big fan and I like learning more about you, so this was nice.
loved the video, you inspire me to be more productive! Would love to see more of these in the future!
That was one of the most heroic videos I've ever seen. Kudos, Ginny. You should be proud of yourself as you are a real motivation. Continue expanding your potential and have a long and happy life with your loved ones. Two thumbs up!
It's really nice to watch and see how down to earth you are - just as if unscripted. 'behind the scenes'-ish. I really appreciate this. It helps with the struggle knowing one is not alone. Thank you very much.
I've always been curious to see the behind the scenes, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this look into your routine/life. I study from home and watching this has given me the kick I need to start writing out my goals for the day again. ❤️
This was a lot of fun to see! Thank you for sharing!
As a person, who is trying to re-get in touch with their creative side, this was motivational to watch! It is nice to see how creative type who have made it go about their days! Thank you!
This was so cool to see all of the behind the scenes sort of things that go on!
It was such a nice and somewhat relaxing video to watch! I'll be happy to see more videos like this!
Can I just say you're production value is always on point!
This video is so cool to see! Even with a more structured schedule with my school work and job I definitely have difficulty with staying structured and organized so it was really amazing to see how you organize your day!
I really enjoyed this!! Fab work
Thank you for sharing this with us, the ups and downs. It's really wonderful to see someone I admire sometimes struggle like I do. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this video, and would love to see more! I work a normal 8-5 marketing/design job and this gave me a little inspirational boost that I feel I needed. Thanks Ginny! Keep up the awesome work, love all you do.
Work ethic next level. Kinda inspiring ngl 😅
I loved this video so much! 💙 if you ever wanted to do more like this, I would be so excited for them!😊
I would looove if you did more of these to represent how wildly different your days can be! This was so interesting!
I love watching this video as a source of motivation when I’m working on art projects. Thank you for posting this!
I cannot thank you enough for posting this, m'lady. It is refreshing and empowering and releasing to see the non-polished side of someone whom I admire SO much for their polished work. I assume it's vulnerable to show a "behind the curtain" video, but please know that it made my day -- especially because I also write so many more things on my list than I can actually get done each day :) This courageous act only inspires me to do more of what makes me happy, even if I know my own BTS is super messy
This was great! It helped inspire me to do more with lists. I work from home now too and I always try to do things by memory. Please do an updated video, I would love to see how your day has changed. Thank you Ginny D!
This was a really fun video! It was just super chill to watch. Plus behind the scenes type stuff is always something I enjoy
nice to see your day. keep up the hard work we love you
As someone who would love to do what you do someday, I really loved and appreciated all the time you put into making this for us. Thank you, Ginny!
This was nice to watch. :) With covid, been working from home for almost a year now and there are definitely challenges!
Interesting und informative. I never thought that there is so much for you to do to create your content. Keep up the great work. 👍
That was great. Good job. I enjoyed it. I liked the backdrop detail and time lapse was just right.
Excellent video as always
I think that this was an awesome informative video for people who think content creating is to easy. It shows how hard your job really is. Thanks for the vid
Thanks for this insightful look into your day. So very interesting to see how you shoot your Polaroids and videos. And I love your handwriting, by the way. Cool to do list!
Absolutely loooved watching this :) I know videos like this probably slow down your day, but I for once would absolutely love to see more of these! Anyway, loving you and your stuff and all the things, and can't wait for each new upload!
I loved this video! It was very cool to see the day of a stay-at-home creative. I would love to see more like this!
This was awesome to see, I'm starting a small business I am hoping can be my full time job eventually and seeing how you structure your days and learning about Later was so helpful!
Very much appreciated this!
I'm terrified of lists because I never complete them and yet see so many other people (reality is just one, that over-achieving friend) completing all tasks on the regs.
This is a great confidence booster too, especially when creating is mixed with a day job!
Muchas graciasss!!!
This was really nice and inspirational! You really get done a lot in a day, but I totally get the “underestimating how long a task will take”, b/c I have that a lot with cosplay when I’m like: I can sew this whole thing in the morning and then work on another thing in the evening when in fact it takes already more than a day to do thing 1. I also always forget to make time for breaks in my planning. It’s really impressive what you do and your videos are really informative. (Your dip dye tutorial really comes in handy for my Beau cosplay so thank you!)
I would love to see more videos like this one since they really motivate me to get my own shit done!
Thanks for being great and don’t forget to take breaks!
This was so wholesome and inspiring! Now I wanna be productive 😂
Holy cow, Ginny- you are SO BUSY, GIRL!! Jeepers! I can tell that you love what you do, and I think that's so amazing and inspiring. I'm a bit of a creative myself (mostly writing copy- I laughed so hard when you were like "I have copy to write and I'm so behind" LIKE, SAME. LMAO), and this has given me a new perspective on a different direction I might need to take in my life. Thank you so much. xx
Awesome video. Love the behind the scenes.
This was so encouraging!
I am trying to make the creative self-employment life work (I wouldn't have planned the timing like this, but I lost my dream job around Christmas and am trying to stay afloat!) and I have had a hard time not getting too down on myself for not finishing my list every day.
It's hard prioritizing which project gets worked on next, especially when I'm constantly underestimating how long some things take and also keeping regular life things on track. Similar to the copy work you mentioned, I likewise put other people's tasks off 'cause it's not MY work, and OH MAN, my poor laundry is destined to live in the hamper and not the wardrobe.
Anyways, thanks for sharing such an honest look into your day! You're absolutely killin' it, lady! :)
p.s. Did watch this as a means of procrastinating from editing my own video, so I also deeply relate to that part! haha
I love being able to see what sort of things go into the life of a content creator, especially a cosplayer. It proves how much you have to love what you do to be able to do it, and it isn't always just fun and games like some people think it is.
If you made another one of these videos I would definitely enjoy it.
its nice seeing people telling themself its okay to not complete all the tasks theyve set out for the day. i often feel like im failing at life because i never finish my lists and it just... feels so reassuring to see that im not alone and that its okay to not get everything done! thank you for that :3
You really give 100 and 10% every day!!! So, thank you!! Thank you for all the hard work you put in, all the time and energy you give to make the incredible things you make, and thank you for just always going that extra mile for us all!! Always remember, we appreciate you, your work, and just everything in general!! Thank you!!! (Also, why is there ALWAYS a cat on the bed when you wanna change sheets?)
Super cool. Brought a smile to my day.
Never realized exactly how much work you put into your craft.
I adore this video and would love love love more days in the life!
This is really neat to watch and I'm sure there are plenty of people that would watch you doing creative things in your home everyday if you let them. Being creative is hard and I think you sharing with us a day in life was awesome, but keep some things private and like a friend we don't need to be there everyday. Love all that you do!
As someone who's pretty new to working as a self-employed costume maker, this was a really refreshing video to watch - I learnt some stuff, but also it made me feel like I'm not doing too bad because we all overestimate what we can manage when we have so much to do! I hope you'll do more videos like this in the future 🤩
This was super fascinating actually! :D I'm really hoping to be self employed eventually, so this was really cool and motivating to watch!
this is one of the examples that show me why I would NOT be suited for self-employment ^^'
like I would not be able to immediately work after getting up if I wasn't forced to and that 1 hour of procrastination would turn into 5 hours for me. I really admire your work ethic and your consistency
This was so cool to watch! Way more helpful and informative than I thought we’d get when I asked how your usual day goes a few months ago. I’d be super interested in seeing more videos like this in the future.
Also, and this may be too personal to share but it’d be interesting to hear how you do financial planning as a self employed person. Not necessarily the day to day, but more planning for big events like future projects, con trips, life events (retirement, moving, vacations). Sometimes the struggle I have is to limit what I take on not just because of the time commitment but also the cost. My list of cool new creative ideas seems to grow faster than my bank account can cover it.
Honestly, my resistance to doing a video like that isn't due to privacy concerns, it's just that my financial planning is very poor!! I only just started using an accounting software this January (after years of using my own spreadsheets, which of course come with user error) and I have not traditionally done a very good job separating my "salary" from business expenses. Hopefully this year is the year I make a lot of improvements, and then maybe next year I'll be qualified to share!
As one creative person to another, It's always interesting to see how a self reliant/creative person structures their day. I'm a freelance illustrator that works from home as well and seeing others day to day process is motivating to see. I would watch more videos like this.
I'm super late watching this video but this was really nice! I would love to see more vlog-style videos :)
Hey Ginny! I just wanted to say thank you for your videos, especially this one and that "tour my studio" one; I've been binging your content the last couple weeks and those two are some of my favourites. I love seeing fellow creatives' studios and how they go about their day-to-day so I've watched those two videos... A lot so far... Which I am sorry about because a vlog is a different sort of work than, say, the Jolly Sailor Bold music video (which I also do love! Mermaids unite!!!). Is this the CZcamsr equivalent of a sketch going viral vs a finished illustration?
Anyway. Love your stuff. Hope you're doing well. Everyone reading this, hope we have a happy Friday today! ✨
I really loved it, so yeah I would really love to see more of them
Ginny the way you organize your day is amazing! I am inspired to do ore on my you tube channel...
I love this video. I'd watch more.
I know I'm late, but keep being awesome. This was an awesome inside look. You're awesome. Thanks for having us
I'd be really interested to see another one of these now and see if and how things have changed in your mothodology in the last couple of years.
Thank you for sharing this! Getting behind in my day to day is incredibly common for me but this helps me feel like it's normal for self employed people to get behind and have days that are just not average.
Jester in ,,popular" is my jam. Your videos are so relaxing and friendly, Im watching a lot of them at the moment
I thought this was a very cool glimpse into your "routine". Thanks for sharing it!
I'm not sure why I never subscribed before this video, cus I feel like I've seen so many? This was great tho. Don't know much work it was for you to make, but would love to see more!
I totally relate to feeling behind on housekeeping even though I work from home! I just have so much other stuff to do! The dishes can probably wait...
This was really interesting, I'd love to see more like it in the future :) (if you enjoy filming them that is!) I'm a freelancer too but I normally work for a company, I tried working from home last year selling on etsy but found it so hard to keep motivated or get up at a reasonable time and in the end I had to stop, it's reassuring to know you struggle with mornings too and have to work at getting up early :)
Really awesome to see how you schedule & post content. No one gives insight into this! Thanks for sharing your screen. And also for being a cool cat :-*
I love this style of video :D
How amazing to see a genuine and honest video like this. Most youtubers attempt to shine it up to unrealistic standards. In my opinion, this is way more beautiful than a "perfect life". Seems like it can be some long workdays sometimes ^^'
Just found this! This was really fun!!
I found your Chanel because I watch Critical Role. I love this video! Keep up the good work, you're amazing!
Would love to see an updated version!
This is awesome. I love behind the scenes videos. Also, I did not realize you are engaged/married. Well I mean you might not be but you are wearing a ring and talking about Josh coming home so congratulations on that! Also your partner and I share a name which is cool. Thanks for sharing your day!
This was really cool to watch!
This was very enjoyable to watch, thank you for inviting us in! Would you ever consider making a video with tips on branding/how to get your name and work out there for cosplayers?
Yeah, I'd like to do more of that! I already write a lot about marketing advice on my blog at www.ginnydi.com, but I'd like to bring more of that into video format.
I would love to see more vids like this.
