  • The Golden Nugget Mine Ride was a combination Roller Coaster/Dark Ride located on Hunt's Pier in Wildwood, NJ. The ride, which opened in 1960, was designed by John C. Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and it featured many stunts created by Bill Tracy.
    From 1996 to 1998, Hunt's Pier was re-themed as Dinosaur Beach and the Golden Nugget received some dinosaur stunts to fit the new theme of the pier. In 1999, the Morey Organization purchased the pier and contemplated different uses for the ride before deciding to demolish it in 2009. The Morey's held a farewell dedication for the ride and pulled out all the stunts before demolishing the structure. They also sold the track and carts to Knoebel's Amusement Resort where it was rebuilt as the Black Diamond. The Black Diamond opened in 2011 and is still in operation today.
    This recording was taken by Robert Krasinski in June of 1998, which was the last year the ride operated in Wildwood.
    Check out our video on the farewell dedication to the Golden Nugget:

      Yeah, I'm glad it's still in use but I don't like it as much as a coal mine. The Golden Nugget was really a great ride. I wish they would have rebuilt it as a gold mine instead of a coal mine though

    I rode on this ride so many times back in the 60&70's as a kid growing up I can still smell the musty smell 😅 my favorite ride. Only the memories remain everything else in the entire area and era are long gone! Thanks for the memories ☺️

    It saddens me that Hunt's Pier is now just a storage area. Make it a "retro pier" , and bring back rides like the Condor, the old haunted house, a bigger arcade for Randy. I know though- that would cost money for the rides, maintenance, and staff. But a retro pier would be a hit imo.

    • @MikesTrainsandTravels
      @MikesTrainsandTravels Před 2 lety

      Condor was a good ride. I also liked Keystone Kops, the train and the cars under the Flyer. They had a fun shooting gallery there too.

    • @davidhibbs6989
      @davidhibbs6989 Před rokem

      @@MikesTrainsandTravels are you talking about the shooting gallery where they had about 20 rifles set up for a quarter for 25 shots where you could shoot the bulls eyes to make the traffic light turn colors and make the duck quack and the player piano play with a mannequin and spittoon etc. I can still see it all in my mind at old hunts Pier!

    • @MikesTrainsandTravels
      @MikesTrainsandTravels Před rokem

      @@davidhibbs6989 Yes, that's the one. I loved playing that every summer. Shooting galleries are a thing that seem to be gone now. When you do still find one, it's much smaller and not many targets anymore. My three favorite targets were the piano player, the traffic light and there was a bird sitting on a water pump and he would make noise and flap his wings and water came out of the pump. Hunt's Pier was always alot of fun!

    I’ve been dying to see ride through videos of Whacky Shack and Keystone Kops when they were in operation. Funchase has vids taken by Eric Princz after they were closed in 1995. I wish video would surface of WS and KK from the 80’s. I’m also kicking myself for not taping the Escape from Dinosaur Beach ride when riding. Most of my on ride videos though I snuck, I didn’t ask permission to tape and I got told at the end of Dark River, and at Chamber of Checkers.

      It was always a challenge back then to get good video on dark rides because the equipment was so big and was obvious to the employees. You did a good job having the foresight to get footage on the rides you managed to Robert...so don't beat yourself up for missing some.

    Can I ask what you are using to transfer these old videos to digital? I’ve been searching for a high quality solution. Thanks!

    • @DarkinthePark
      @DarkinthePark  Před 2 lety +2

      I have various professional SVHS decks and digital decks from when I was an event videographer....so it's not like stuff I purchased from Best Buy. Certain videos transfer better on different machines...so sometimes it's trial and error depending on the quality of the tape. As far as the computer, I use Quicktime on an Imac to capture the files.

      We do not have a ride through of either of those rides. The Pirate Ship was our favorite ride and I wish a walk though of that would surface. The Log Flume is still in operation at Arnold's Amusement Park in Iowa so you can still ride that! arnoldspark.com/project/log-flume-2/

      @@DarkinthePark Thanks! I'll have to see if there are videos on the log flume from the other park. I loved the pirate ship to. I was young but I went through and I didn't take the "chicken exit" that was right before the spinning barrel. I liked the part when it felt like you were walking on the wall. I think I remember seeing a ball rolling up hill in that room to. Wildwood lost all the great rides that made it unique. Now, it's just rides that any park would have. Nothing special anymore

      Walk through haunted attractions are a big liability for parks. But, Morey’s built Ghost Ship and chain parks like Six Flags and Cedar Fair have walk through haunted attractions in the fall.
