Open day at the tram/bus depot in Miskolc, Hungary

On Saturday, 24 June 2023, the Open Day of the Night of Museums was held at the MVK depot, including a vehicle exhibition and a depot tour. The depot tour included a visit to the Ikarus 280, AKD-707, which is currently undergoing renovation. The Ikarus 280.15 shown in the video was taken into service on 3 July 1986 by MKV, with the registration number BX-74-04. The 280s had been arriving in Miskolc with satellite doors since 1985, but a shipment with folding doors arrived in 1986. In 1990, it received the legendary AKD number plate, of which 707 was also one.
In 1999, it underwent a chassis swap refurbishment, when it received a D10 engine and Voith gearbox. This allowed it to survive as the only bus with folding doors after all buses like this were scrapped in 2002, when the MAN SGs arrived. It was in service in Miskolc until 2015, with a few interruptions. On 4 March 2016, it was seen again by the public as part of the Ikarus farewell programme at the City Hall Square, when it had already been a trial run. At that time, it was already decided to keep it as a heritage bus and to renovate it over time.
This did not take place for a long time, it just rested in the depot as a common scrap. In 2018, its rims were painted for the Night of Museums. Its last major appearance was in the summer of 2019, when it was used to perform reversing tasks at the national drivers' competition. For this occasion, the very spectacular rots on the side were painted off. Of course, this did nothing for his condition, it was just cosmetic. It was also on display at the Night of Museums, and was last exhibited in 2021. The MVK, in defiance of the preservation order, left it to rot in the open air. Its condition was deteriorating rapidly, and its amortization was already visible from the outside. it was no longer able to participate in the 2022 event due to his condition.
On 22.07.2022, something happened that the transport-friendly society of Miskolc had been waiting for for 6 years: it was put into the workshop! They started to work on it and then started to renovate it, which was almost unbelievable after all these years. In October, work was already underway on the bodysmith's work. Even the fact of the renovation was not public, and information was gathered in forums and Facebook comments.
That's why many were surprised by what happened on 24 June 2023: the bus under renovation was taken out of the workshop and put on public display! It was strange that everyone walked past the bus, but the organisers didn't say a word about what we were seeing. People were just guessing what this "wreck" was. Of course, I obviously knew what I was seeing, I was already knew about the renovation, and I even referred to it in some of my posts. Of course, I had a good look around the bus and it looks like it has had a lot of good work done to it. Of course, there is a lot of work to be done, but if they carry on like this, the end result will be really nice. Perhaps the most spectacular were the three steps, they were beautifully done. But the fourth staircase was left in good condition, so it will be polished. In addition to the stairs, the frame structure also shows a lot of work, as the pictures show. But you can also see the repairs on the outer bodywork, especially at the rear.
I asked an organiser about the approximate completion date. As he said, it has been in the workshop for a long time. It is being done, but very slowly, with few people and no capacity. He says it will probably be years before it's ready, but as far as they know, they're doing it all the time. I hope that sooner or later the project will be finished, and a legend of Miskolc, the AKD 280, will once again be on the city's roads on special days 🙂

Hát ez nagyon f*sza videó lett! Talán a szokásos BKV-s nyíltnapnál érdekesebb (volt).

Én nem tudom, hogy a BKV-s nyílt napok milyenek, de itt rengeteg látnivaló volt. A videóban nem szerepelnek, de voltak például koncertek, rendőrségi, tűzoltó bemutatók, rengeteg veterán autó és motor, mentőkutya bemutató, rengeteg gyerekprogram, és még lehetne sorolni. Egyre inkább kinövi magát évről évre a rendezvény, már nem feltétlenül csak egy közlekedésbarát esemény.

Hát ezt inkább ne nevezzük felújításnak.. Inkább csak gányolják.. Amilyen körülmények között állt, minimum vázig kellett volna ezt bontani, hogy legyen értelme annak, amit csinálnak. Még a lemezelést is csak toldozgatják.. Mikor kész lesz, biztos szép lesz, de ha csak így "újítják" akkor hónapokon belül megjelennek rajta újra a rozsdafoltok. Ez a jármű nem ezt érdemelné 😔
