  • This is my brief retrospective on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy on Game Boy;
    - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan (1990)
    - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back from the Sewers (1991)
    - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (1993)
    All 3 games were very different from one another, but they each stand out on their own feet. Each game had their own unique style, whether that be it’s animation, genre or gameplay.
    I reviewed this amazing series of games to evaluate what I think were their strong points, and what did not work so well.
    This was reviewed in HD on the Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection.

    The very first Game Boy game I ever played was TMNT2. So much fun! I hadn't heard of TMNT3 on Game Boy until 2 decades later thanks to a multi-cart.

    In a lot of different countries the first game was part of the batch that was relased at the same time as the Game Boy, making it the first experience that a lot of gamers had with the system (besides Tetris).
    My favorite was the second one, it was the game that resembled the TV series the most, the robot that have to fight between stages if you lost one of the Turtles was taken from it.
    Another detail I liked about the Game Boy games in comparison with the first NES game was that all the Turtles made the same damage and the main difference among them was the reach and speed of their weapons, in the first NES game Donatello's weapon made more damage and you played most the time with him, only switching to the other Turtles when he was low of health until you found some pizza to heal him.

    Nice work my friend and good luck with the new channel. I think we forget just how massive Turtle mania and Bart Mania was, those characters were like rock stars and were on absolutely EVERYTHING on the early 90s

    1:50 wait you can deflect his bullets? I for some reason either forgot about that or didn't know. I think it's because as a kid I started with the 2nd TMNT Game Boy game where he shoots multiple bullets and you can't deflect them.

      Yes you can, but only in the first game. Don’t think you can in the others as you said 😃

    I recently subscribed and watched all your videos, I really like the tone, it's enjoyable.
    I'm curious -- back in the 80s/90s, was it a fairly known fact over there that the Turtle name had "Ninja" instead of "Hero" in it in the original version, or was this something that came as a surprise later on? Like, when I was a kid who loved Pokemon back when they were new, it felt like pretty common trivia that they were known as "Pocket Monsters" in Japan, even without the internet to tell us.

      I don’t think it was necessarily common knowledge that the “Hero” part of the title was “Ninja” everywhere else, but I can’t say for sure - I personally was aware of it at the time but I don’t remember if others knew. However, this would have only been up to 1990 anyway, because when the movie came out, the title remained the same with “ninja” in it, so if nobody knew before then, they would have found out that year.
      Thank you for the support! 😃
