      I can attest to the distraction factor. I don't tend to experience it, though, until I get a long way into a Sim's life...having picked up a lot of likes and maxed a lot of skills. My Werewolf often tries to sneak off and workout when he's supposed to just be working. 😂
      I tend to activate the basics at the beginning: Cooking, Handiness, Fitness and/or dancing, then a hobby like cross stitch, I almost always pick writing off the bat b/c it has so many applications...then I pick a science related one (rocket, programming, or gaming), performance related one (singing or comedy) and an instrument and leave the rest unchecked. Same with fashion and music: I'll pick a few basics that fit the character I'm aiming for and let them decide others for themselves in-game. Leaves a surprise for me.

      You can get a jump start on this in Toddlerhood by "playing with emotion" with certain toys, and on the child prodigy violin upon hitting childhood...which will also raise music skill at the same time.

    Not sure if this is only bookworms (why would anyone not be a bookworm) but my sims gain fun at an incredible rate while reading skill books. Then when they are using some skill afterward, there will often be a prompt asking if it is safe to say that they like that skill. From then on they will gain fun just gardening, repairing and upgrading, programming, or whatever useful thing I ask them to do. It is rare for me to see a sim's fun dip below 90% during their adult life.

    “Fresh Chef” is your best friend, with this trait your food doesn’t spoil, as long as you don’t hire a maid you can set up breakfasts areas & dinner on tables so that your sims can grab fresh muffins in the morning & a slice of pizza for dinner on the go.
    It also pairs well with your bakery’s & food stands when your selling food to your local foodies😂

    One thing to note about the reward traits: for me personally, I never give my sims the "hardly hunger" or "never weary" traits. As I say, "hardly hunger hardly does anything." It does slow your sims hunger need, but not enough to be worth the points. I always save up to get the "forever full" trait. That one basically stops the hunger bar from going down permanently and is a huge time saver. On the other hand, making a sim "never weary," which stops the energy bar from going down, often leads to disaster for me. Because when your sim never sleeps, it takes twice as long to get though a day. Which can be really annoying, especially if you have other sims in your household and don't want to disturb them by leaving with the never weary sim to do stuff at night. The "seldom sleepy" trait is better since you end up sleeping every few days or getting a few hours in the early morning. Makes for a better game play

I have my vamp sims work on skills or homework, or take care of their needs based on what the vamp sims need. If you have the Growing Together expansion I highly recommend completing childhood aspirations since the reward traits will be useful their entire lives. They're pretty quick to do, too, so if you're playing on normal lifespan you can knock out 2 or 3 of them very easily. Artistic Prodigy gives the Creative Genius reward trait which makes all adult creative skills level faster (painting, singing, music, writing, etc), Rambunctious Scamp gives the Physically Gifted reward trait so fitness levels faster, Social Butterfly gives Socially Gifted trait which levels social skills (comedy, mischief, charisma) faster, Whiz Kid gives Mentally Gifted which boosts all mental adult skills (logic, rocket science, fishing, handiness, etc). Completing these also gives about 900-1000 satisfaction points each so you'll be able to buy some of the reward traits mentioned in the video much earlier.

      Carl of Carl's Sims Guide did one a while back that is still pretty relevant. The secret to a Super Sim is that you only get one on the second generation because you have to make a Sim that's capable of mentoring a child from an early age, meaning that Sim should have almost all skills at max.
      The best way I've found to do this with no pressure is to start with a Werewolf (picking a knowledge based aspiration off the bat so the buff is always active) since their aging is stopped altogether and they're hard to kill. With plenty of time, explore any wanted careers and university degrees, then I find it most beneficial to become an Educator. This will double the effect of mentorship as you can then mentor as with the purchasable perk but also teach about any skill you've mastered.
      Always be making clubs. Make one for the family unit, make a couple for the kid's groups of friends. By far the bast way to gain skill fast and passively.
      Then, create a baby with your preferred Sim, in your preferred way and make raising it priority #1. Hit all the Parenting books during infancy or before and by mid toddlerhood you should have gotten the top notch infant buff (choose a calm baby) and be able to directly control most of the child's upbringing for itself, especially by leaving food in easy to reach spots or loading up the kid's inventory with vegetables so it can feed itself. Follow the aspirations for family and it should lead you to raise a top-notch toddler.
      Have it join scouts and earn all the badges, use Parenthood interactions to discipline, praise, and guide and use the suggestions in the Simology tab to show you how to get the character traits in range for perks (relying heavily on the journal, musical instruments to unwind, doctor's playset and emotional control toy)...now you can use Growing Together to socialise with other kid's and bond better with parents (DO NOT miss out on building the Treehouse!)
      This is all fairly straightforward but very "grind-y"...although it does create some really good story moments that you don't have to create for yourself... but should easily get you to Highschool Years...which you could do without, but it does help with qualifications for Discover University.
      And that's the final step. By the time you get to highschool, your Sims learning capacity and skill capacity should be at levels that will make going to HS a breeze...like graduating as Valedictorian in less than a month easy...so University is just icing on the cake. I'd recommend a business degree as it guarantees passive income returns on investments for the rest of your game.
      I created a matriarch and patriarch and set them up in a sort of recreation of the X-mansion (X-Men) where I take in teen roommates or adopt kids and raise them to be amazing! : )

    Incense from Spa Day
    Decorations (focused painters can paint math diagrams, crystals have energizing aura, postcards from penpals can inspire etc)

    Spellcasters don't just have the needfixer potion. They also have a rejuvenating potion. And a repair spell to make their potions top quality and a copypasto spell to infinitely multiply their potion supply. (they also have the (grand) delicioso and scruberoo spells to skip cooking and showering)

Then when they’re done, they pee and brush their teeth because that helps with hygiene but you don’t have to shower. Then I make them check themselves in the mirror. Another mood boost. Then they go to work or whatever. I usually try to get a snack throughout the day. Not always. Then whoever is available first after six makes dinner. They eat, toilet, shower and bed. This trick makes sure they never have to have a low moodlet throughout the day. I never have to interrupt a conversation to go pee, never too hungry to do anything and never stink middle of an outing.

    My two favorite reward traits are always welcome and the seldom sleepy (the other need booster traits are nice too).
    I like big households but I get overwhelmed when they are all cranky so what I’ll do is visit a family member (often with my legacy heir) and just stay over for a few days as a guest. I’ll also host parties at other sims’ houses or get an “airbnb” (a generic lot type that’s a house). With the always welcome trait the household wont get mad at you so you can do whatever and take a break from your sims.
    Also when your sim is off the lot, always change the lightning bolt over their picture to build skills when they dont need to boost their needs. It actually does build skills.
    The need booster traits like seldom sleepy and hardly hungry are nice cause sims will need to sleep/eat/etc less without ruining the challenge of the game

    The clubs from Get Together can also give you the Rally the Troops ability. That fills Bladder, Hunger and Energy all at the same time. The club itself should help with social and fun, meaning Hygiene is the only real need to worry about. You can also usually get whatever mood you want just by choosing it from the clubs menu after you've spent the points for it. You can also get some great stuff following the Science career from Get to Work. But if you really want to play Sims 4 in easy mode, just get Realms of Magic and become a spellcaster. They pretty much get the best stuff from both clubs and the scientist career.

    Tbh I have the UI cheats extension mod so I can delay needs for as long as I can. Very useful for when they can't sleep long/good enough or when they are at work and can't fill their needs so I give them a little boost. Also extremely useful for dates and when I hang out with lovers without having to break a conversation by going to take a shower.
    Those are very useful tips though. I use lot traits but I didn't know each skills was faster with a specific emotion. I'll try to keep that in mind, thanks :]

    You're so right about the no needs decay reward traits. I've been playing with one Sim for years in TS4 and have basically reached the max of everything (money, multiple careers, reward traits, etc), including the traits that stop all her needs from decaying. It's useful because she owns a retail store full of crafted items but it's also gotten SO boring. Now I'm just trying to have her do everything like take all the uni courses, all distinguished degrees; reach the top of all the careers, complete all aspirations. She already reached the 9,999,999 Simoleon limit and it got even MORE boring because no matter how much cash she brought in, household funds wouldn't go higher. Thankfully, there's a mod to increase the limit, and a bunch of other mods that add more careers for her to do. But it all feels too easy now. I should not have bought those reward traits LOL

  • @BinaryJoe
    @BinaryJoe Před 9 měsíci +6

    These are all good. You can also watch TV while using the weight machine and multitasking is great for getting influential conversation in during meals, just make sure not to queue up any physical interactions that interrupt the meal.
    You say it's tough to get up to lvl 6 handiness, but your tip of getting involved in upgrading defeats that assumption...folks just have to start small: begin by creating a few things on the workbench and then start upgrading the plumbing and that should give one ample momentum to get to lvl 4...from there it's just a matter of funds for parts.
    On that note, spending time writing and sending it off is a great way to generate passive income even in early game; the entrepreneur perk and buff and a business degree or career will also see a Sim get passive investment gains throughout the rest of the game.
    Mentoring is a great way to quickly up skill. Get the available Perk and/or,
    in a multi Sim household, get one of the parents to enter the education career which allows them to actively teach other Sims any skill which the teacher has mastered, further cutting down the time to acquire skills for future generations.

      Isn't there a lot trait that makes everything break every night, giving you tons of handiness practice? The way fixing things goes in the sims is that you get money out of the waste generated by fixing things, so you'd sort of get an income that way. Makes no sense, I'd really prefer they'd change that

    • @BinaryJoe
      @BinaryJoe Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@limiv5272 Yes, the Gremlins lot trait will have them break things at night. Repairing objects, however, gives you parts that you scavenge from the debris, not money, to use for further upgrades, which is good. I'm not sure if you can sell those parts, but I don't see how it would be bad if you could seeing as how it presents both options of not having to pay for more parts (which you'll always need) or getting some extra cash as well as skill points by repairing objects. I think you've misunderstood what repairing and scavenging for parts do.

    • @limiv5272
      @limiv5272 Před 9 měsíci

      @@BinaryJoe You can sell upgrade parts IIRC, and even if you couldn't, scavenging them would still save you having to buy some for your next upgrade, hence free money. My issue with this is twofold:
      1. It's unrealistic. In reality, you'd have to buy new parts and materials, invest money, in order to repair something in your home.
      2. It's one of many things that make getting money in the game way too easy. I mostly just build in the sims, but whenever I play I always wish it was more of a challenge

    Even though socializing while doing boring things is a great way to get social need up, it will slow down whatever you're doing a lot. Just having the loner trait or a social need reducing reward trait is much more effective.

    Massage upgrade on beds is great, and improving the mattress firmness make your Sims wake up in a much better mood.
    Gym Rat is good for ANY Sim. Now, they have fun exercising and will often do it autonomously, improving their fitness skill and preventing them from getting fat.
    Artist studio improve the skill gain of all creative skills, and also improve the quality of crafted things.
    If you play a multi-generation family, make sure that your toddlers build their skills as much as possible. All at 3 give him the Happy toddler trait that will slightly improve his skill gain. At 5, maxed, it's the Top notch toddler that greatly improve ALL skill gains for his entire life.
    Completing any of the kid's aspiration will give him a special trait that improve his skill gain in the appropriate category.
    If you have Spa Day, kids tend to like practising yoga, and build their motor and thinking skills.
    The more things your Sim like, the better his mood. You don't want them to dislike things unless you want to have some miserable Sims...

    If you use the grim reaper cheat on your sim it turns them into a reaper and you only have to worry about their social and fun levels cause the other levels stay full and don't drop, and since they don't sleep they don't need beds, so it saves room if your house only has one bedroom or one bed, and have a night wraith as a roommate, the night wraith will need the bed to sleep in and to cry in, and if you get the reaper job mod, your reaper sim can get a job reaping souls, and when a sim dies your reaper sim will show up instead of Grim, even Grim needs a break now and then, Reapers have a lower version of their own voice, and teens and older float like Grim and have the black trail, children and toddlers walk instead of floating but still have the black smoke trail, not sure if infants can become Reapers or not, but they would be too small to reap souls anyway maybe a bug that wonders into their crib, but that's about it, also reapers never run or jog like the other sims do and they don't swim, if you have them jump in a pool they get out right away, but they are definitely easier to take care of than other sims, as long as they socialize a bit and do fun things they're just fine.
