Great pocket in this game. Was not really pressured too much. Good accurate arm. I think his arm is good enough for outside throws, but they mostly ran slants. Needs to learn to slide to protect himself. A first round grade. Where he goes depends on need. Reminds me of Bridgewater.

In terms of play style I actually see a lot of Manziel in him. He has excellent speed, but it's heightened by just being super light on his toes, because he's such a good runner, he has a tendency to bail quickly, whether by design or of his own doing. I think he actually looks better in the pocket on timing routes vs outside of structure. Ideally he would land with a team that is comfortable running a lot of RPO packages. If Bieniemy lands a HC job, that might be the best fit.

Hes qb1 for me. I think a lot of the issues with him (rpo offense mainly) isn't really that big of an issue. The only huge problem I see is that he sometimes stares down a receiver which can also be tought in the NFl. He needs to slide tho. But I like his accuracy and athlethism

I feel like I'm watching Baker Mayfield but 15lbs lighter. The obvious height comparison aside, let me explain what I mean.
Matt's release point is not ideal. His ball leaves helmet high, from his ear. Which isn't good in his case. While his mechanics look pretty tight for having an unconventional throwing motion, but his windup is still a slight bit exaggerated. Both of these things scream batted passes at the LOS. Because of his throwing mechanics and release point, his downfield accuracy does and is going to continue to suffer. His ball placement isn't elite and sometimes sporadic, you can tell when he puts the ball downfield with juice it almost (key word being almost) sails on him. Either way it's high and THAT is a problem.
Much like Baker at Oklahoma, there is a strong emphasis on the ball action game and RPO game in this offense. Those G/T pulls are also incredibly friendly to him, giving those linebackers such a conflict of assignment. You clear out short to intermediate windows and freeze safeties. But I want to see where my QB's money is made, and that is from straight drops on 3rd and 4th down.
In those throws, we got ......
    - 1st throw failed to locate a hook/curl LB and was almost picked
    - 2nd throw failed to understand zone leverage presnap and missed the open stick. Picked it up with his legs (plus athlete) but got absolutely crushed for it.
    - fails to locate his check down and doesn't protect himself on a scramble
    - (on a 1st down) drops his eyes and runs to run, doesn't run to throw. Didn't see his receiver working back to him while Matt was still behind the LOS, tackled short of the first and the clock keeps ticking away before the half. That's something that makes a QB like Wilson, Mahomes and to a lesser extent Josh Allen so damn special. They run to throw and their ears never drop like that.
    - 4th and 6, fires an easy slant into a voided window. Decent ball placement
    - 3rd and 16, has a GREAT read on the post, puts it behind the DB's but too much on a line and wide/high.
It's the issue watching the modern college QB and projecting his attributes pro. The 1step and RPO game is so prevalent that you're trying to fill in a TON of gaps. Ultimately that's why I tend to boil a lot of what I see down to those key 3rd down plays, they tend to tell you quite a bit. And what I'm reading is that this kid needs time, a great deal of time. I'm not even sure if you can fix his throwing motion at his point. His footwork isn't all that bad, and his shoulders being square and following through is ok. Could use a little more drive off his back foot. A lot of his zip is simply from his pure arm strength.
Friend of mine linked me this cut-up and asked if I would take him early 2nd round. I'm going to have to watch the rest of his season before I answer that.

Jake Locker. Guy loses all semblance of accuracy when he has to throw too far outside the hashes.
