Jesus. I no longer feel I was alone in getting treated like shit by my dad when I was a kid. I didn’t know other people experienced that. I’m soooo glad I am wrong. And for my kids, I sit down and help them and explain it so they can understand it properly. My son is an A student because I took the time to help him when he needed it.
For tutor tips. If a person(because this can be adults too) doesn’t know what a number is first get some beans and make a 1/10/100 section to organize. Group them in as 1, 5, and 10 and some extra on the side. Then first explain that zero/nothing is in your hand. help them count to the said number for 43, you’d count to forty by counting to ten, 4 times putting 1 bean for every 10 and putting 3 beans in the ones place. Tactile learners can feel the beans, visual learners will see, auditory learners will be instructed, and kinaesthetic learners can repeat the process with guidance. It’ll take at least three rounds of making with different numbers with the student doing it on their own for another 3, and an explanation about what we call certain groups of numbers like ten, twenty, and so on. Remember teaching takes patience and along with numbering there is a lexicon to learn too. If your is going to say the Z point equals the mean of a data set subtracted from an experimental result divided the standard deviation of the set, or Z=(x - mu)/sigma It’s going to need explanation and even 1+1=2 has a proof over 300 pages long. Math isn’t inherent and sometimes can be frustrating to several people. Be patient.
I was home schooled my whole life and my dad was at home due to my mom being a bread winner so this was legit my life everyday for YEARS and honestly it was worse then this 😂😂 He now wonders why I never excelled in academics like my older sister
Exactly how my Dad acted towards me for HOURS every week ! LMAO

What dad says don’t beat yourself up about math is hard
