    This season on Alone, participants will face the most punishing environment yet: The Arctic. Scattered around Canada’s Great Slave Lake-the deepest lake in North America-season 6’s survivalists will endure incredibly cold conditions and a whole slew of new dangerous wild life, like a thriving bear population, territorial moose, packs of wolves, muskox and the stealthy porcupine. No camera crew. No gimmicks. Last one standing wins.

    Every one of these items seemed essential to me, then I realised he doesn't have a saw. And I think we've all seen the value of a saw on this show, alongside an axe. Tough, tough call... The bow is a marginal item. Mostly, it's been useless. But when it's worked, it's really worked.

      @TheWildNorth Před 4 lety +1

      You gotta know how to pretty use that bow or any longbow at that

      Too bad Keith was a dummy busy giving himself stupid tattoos out in the wilderness instead of catching food.

      I also noticed that omission ! An axe is really a very heavy way of addressing a problem. I would have taken a large knife (like my Cold Steel Trail Master) and a Silky Bigboy saw instead of his axe and Pukko knife.
      On the bow -- this is an interesting one. If one has prior knowledge that there IS game (bigger than rabbits and squirrels) then a bow might be a good option, depending on the person's skill levels. In the hands of a novice, I don't think this kind of situation is the right place to learn by trial and error, especially with so few arrows! (arrows are not not that easy to make out in the wild, at least not well enough!). Big game, like deer and bigger, are very good sources of protein, and one can smoke or dry the meat for later use, render all the left-over for stock and soups (especially with dried Pinto beans), all very nourishing. A 30-40 pound animal can provide enough protein for quite a while, possibly several weeks. One issue though is that one HAS TO have salt! Salt is a really important substance for long term use of meat protein. In a real life scenario, one will almost invariably take at least one firearm (but that is not relevant here.). For small game like hares, one must be able (with a bow) to hit a hare-sized target at 20 yards, at least 5 times out of 10 shots, to have ANY realistic chance of it contributing significantly to your larder. If you can't get to that skill level, consider other food options. In a case like this where (apparently) the lake is well stocked with fish, I'd say fishing might well be the better option. If, like me, you don't really like fish and are not used to eating fish, then your options are significantly reduced, or you will have to become used to it pretty darn fast!
      [One wonders why they always choose locations that have very limited food resources, and such extreme weather conditions?]
      Does anyone know the reason for the blanket ban on ANY firearms?

    Oh man, Keith, these teasers are driving me nuts! I can't wait to see how you fare! I hope to see you at the next Tennessee Classic and I expect to have you and Jen (and the dogs, of course) in my camp for a corned venison dinner so I can pump you for stories about the stuff that doesn't make it on the show. Give my best to Jen. -JW_Halverson

    My ideas save you a month of time that you'd otherwise be wasting. A month would have changed the winner's name on 7of 8 seasons and cut the gals in on 333k each on season 7. you only need a week to make the 1300 sq ft of netting possible from the cotton rope hammock ,2 days to make the pontoon out rigger raft, a day to make the reflective streamer lures (out of ribbons cut off of the tarp) and the array of logs for towing the 11 treblelhooks behind the raft as you row it. Take 11treblehooks and be far more likely to catch the 1.5 lbs of fish per hour that you need in order to make it worth the calories spent doing so. Troll-fish as you wait for day 45,when you can start catching 20+ lbs of fish per day. with shallow water net traps and a seine. When the shoreline ices up, switch to gillnettting in deep water. In any case, keep on trolling the trebleooks, for as long as they produce 1.5 lbs of fish per hour.

    Redundant: knife + multitool
    Redundant: wire + paracord
    Essential but lacking: a tarp or some waterproof/windproof shelter building material.
    Prediction: not the winner.

      @fl260 Před 4 lety +2

    you want the hooks converted into treblehooks, but you need about half of them to be feeding you until you can make a net-weir., set the snares, etc. Once 9 of the 25 big single hooks have been cut in half, and reforged, you can wire them into their final shape as treblehooks. This will increase your catch of fish, but it also makes it feasible to use them to catch waterfowl and predators. The sooner you can rid your area of predators, the better off you will be.

    WOW why are all these people bringing a Sleeping bag, Leatherman and feril rod or however you spell it. ?? We only ever used Boows from Spruce on the ground to a depth of 4 inchs .. And layer 2inchs on top of you nice and toasty... maybe a nice moose or bear skin if one had time to make it. These people are traveling in Comfort!! esp the POT!! I don't remember ever having a POT Running our Native trap lines in Labrador.
    I'm worried about these Modern clothing choices...
