    no words can express how great Aoife's voice is and Noam just masters any sort of song put before him on any number of strings given. Sounds so perfect. Like the wind and a mountain steam.

    Aoife has a beautiful lilting voice. I first heard her singing Blaze Foley's " Clay Pigeons " magnificently and this song is equally impressive. The name sounds very Irish, but then , we like to claim as many great singers as we can. Brilliant. Gerry Farry. 👍

  • @grandmasguitarvintageguita4632

    That is a tricone National plectrum (long neck 4-string) guitar, circa 1929. He had talked about converting one to 5-string, like a regular banjo, but I guess couldn't bring himself to do it. I think what works nicely is that this instrument has more sustain than a typical percussive banjo, so he can slide around and the notes fade subtly without cutting off abruptly. She's playing a Martin 0-17 or 00-17. What an absolutely beautiful song.

      It's a banjo, just a very strange-looking, vintage one. When I saw him live with Stuart Duncan he explained how he saw some reviews that called it one of the worst playing banjos ever, or something along those lines, and he knew he had to have it.

      Actually it's a plectrum guitar, not a banjo. It's a National tricone resonator model from the late 20s.

    • @WC_Beer_Reviews
      @WC_Beer_Reviews Před 8 lety +1

      Plectrum banjos were an answer to the jazz scene. the 5th string would always be out of key. so The plectrum and tenor banjo came into vogue for banjo and violin/mandolin players to get in on the action. The resonator was a form of amplification. His plectrum Im sure is tuned the same as his normal banjo, minus the drone string. An oddity for sure, but a real coolness factor.
