Coach Popovich even said that he has to do alot more fundamental teaching now. He said the guys in the past "knew what they were doing and were fundamentally sound" whereas the new generation are neophytes. He talked about how all these fundamentals and positioning, spatial relationships, etc were things they should've learned in college but they never went.
Good point on MJ and Bird. Bird was the only player that cooked MJ everytime they met. So MJ knew that he had to look to bird to see what he was missing.

Apart from me still having Jordan as the GOAT, I have to say, no one in the current media understands the game,
or disects the game and the players like Gil.
Even with the last surge in scoring, everyone was dissing the defense and downplaying what the offensive players achieved.
Gil was the only one being realistic in that moment saying, yes the defense is pretty bad, but in the current situation there was
nothing more they could've done against those players.
Defense has been like that for quite some time now, but that doesn't negate that, apart from fouling, there was not much defense
could have done against Book, KAT, Joel or Luka.
Also, I don't think the decission not to throw everything against those 4 players was rather good. Proof being Book and KAT actually
lost the games and the Mavs vs Hawks was actually a close one. This especially considering the 4 teams opposing MIN, PHX, PHI
and DAL are actually the teams with 4 worst defensive ratings in the league.
When I saw Leggler's comment on this I came to respect Gil's insight even more.

Having fundamentals and having played early with older professional guys will always be a consideration for Luka. But in my opinion, Luka is luka a new breed of talent a new kind of a great player we are witnessing in the N B A honestly. We should be greatful to witness this kind of a player.

For a 10304049584847 times...he never played profesionally since the age of 12 or 13. At that age he was at the youth acadamy of real madrid. He debuted at 16years old with the main squad. And then at 17 he became a regular and at 18 he was toying with men in europe
He's already far and away more skilled than alot of people's goat LeBron and he's still learning
