You should absolutely do a Nu Disco/House set! For a while a had the issue (and sometimes still have) of making the transitions too long and these tips really help. I've started using the sampler more for acapellas and that really takes the mix up a notch and sounds way more pro! I really hope to get a 4 channel controller in the future since it would fit my mixing and music style!

As a DJ that's been playing for a long time and even held residencies here in oz and overseas, i still love to watch these videos and get ideas and inspirations. I do have a habit at times of 'playing it safe' depending on the gig and venue and especially when i record mixes online. I do get a bit creative from time to time and i love to get ideas from videos like these. I would love to be able to link you to a mix or two of mine and get feedback. Good or bad. I'm not an ego driven DJ and do believe that no matter how long you've been playing for or how much experience, you always have room to grow and learn more!

Great video. Interesting rarely do I ever see or hear the concept of "Teasing". That is so old school but still a relevant technique and probably where the idea of double/triple drops came from. It's a great way for a DJ to test if their vision of the future of where they want to take the dance floor. Personally I like long transitions built around concept #2. If the outro is long enough or loopable and the intro has a long enough runway or loopable also I start the mix early and line it up so as the outgoing tracks energy drops the first real recognizable phrase of the incoming starts. My favorite type of transition is where the average person can't tell where it started or stopped. Sometimes if compatible I even overlap the rhythms but this does require talent and experience to know if they are compatible or not. Same for vocals. In general you shouldn't overlap vocals but in certain instances its possible and can provide interesting transitions.

All the mixes were great. Like you say, a time and a place for each one. That 3rd mix tho was amazing. I feel it is worth a mention that with using accapellas between songs it is worth pre-planning. An out of key acapella can sound awful (I know, I've done it 😂) so although it's great to be inspired and mix on the fly. Checking the acapella suits the key of BOTH tracks beforehand will really gel it all together.

I'm messing with some Tidy Trax hard house at the minute. I've found dropping the next tune in while the first one is still going strong, and very slowly eq blending till the second tune kicks in works really well. It means some of my mixes are two or three minutes long. I'll sometimes then hit a hot cue to a loop of the first tracks groove and bring it in and out. It sounds like it works to me, but I'm a novice and experimenting with different transitions to stand out a bit

Hot cues are our friend for bang on transitions. Find the point your track comes in, set one 32 or 64 beats before it and set one 32 or 64 beats before you want to be out of it. It's hard to find club gear that doesn't have at least 3 hot cues available these days.

@@no0kieNRW I'd like to say that there's some special skills to it, but really it just comes to you after a lot of listening for where you want to go in and out. For the counting 32 or 64, use beat jump which is built into Rekordbox or remember that 32 beats is 8 bars an 64 beats is 16 bars and count the bars on the beat grid.
