    Until extremely recently (history wise anyway) the people of Southern Europe and North Africa actually had more culturally in common with each other than they did with the people of Northern Europeans and Sub-Saharan Africans respectively. As an American, it is sad to see how many people in America think Africa is a country. It is a diverse continent with 54 countries. We need to educate people about geography because it creates perspective and hopefully a greater understanding of the world. Thank you geography now for your videos!
    Edit: I don’t think the problem is exclusive to Americans or that all Americans don’t know geography, I am just saying that i see it’s prevalence in my country when it comes to geography. I live in a decently educated area where the people are good at certain academic things but when I ask them basic geography questions they often blank or say something outlandish things that are not even close. and so I can’t imagine what it must be like for those who don’t have good education in the USA.

    • @Itoshimi
      @Itoshimi Před 4 měsíci

      Not only Americans, just about every country thinks Africa is a country because the media has been lumping all the countries into one group and it’s not an accident.

    • @oceanicalex
      @oceanicalex Před 4 měsíci

      @@Itoshimi I agree with you but I think this is more prevalent in north and South America for a few reasons. I think one thing that really makes less people learn about it is that they don’t live around many other continents if you live in the americas. If you live in Europe, Africa, or Asia for example you are in close proximity to a ton of other countries and continents different to yours that are near each other and so you will learn about what is around you. Typically people care more immediately about the environment around them (although the argument can be made that people like to learn about the places around the world that are different from their own home country because it shows them the unique places on earth and gives perspective.) That is not to say the reverse isn’t true but that most of the continents are in the old world with only a handful being in the new world. What you say is true though and I must agree that not all of the people you see in those geography cringe videos on the streets represent the entirety of the USA. Overall, you bring up a good point though about the medias perception about Africa and other places as well. Also the education systems in some places just don’t prioritize geography and history as much as others.

    Wow, amazing. However, you missed mentioning that Africa has 3 of the total 4 rivers in the world that form inland deltas. These are:
    1. Okavango River (Botswana)
    2. Niger River (Mali)
    3. Sudd region of the Nile River (South Sudan)
    The fourth is the Murray-Darling River (Australia)

    Did anybody do the Africa highway project in the US? You had to propose where a highway would go through all of Africa to connect everything. You had to present to judges and it was super stressful.
    I did it in Pre AP Geography in 9th grade.

    It was the most complete summarize from this continent that I have watched, read or heard in all this time. I'm not gonna lie, I want to learn more about this place on Earth like the other ones, but after figuring out the enormous complexity of the subject, it's so hard beginning from one point and many other stuffs, and I put away the studies other day and another and another, and that.
    Also, I know that the reality is more complex than this summarize, I know, but is helpful, specially for beginning to understand and having a clear idea of what to know.
    Thanks for this video, it was great.
