  • Due to it’s small size, standard view and fast apertures nifty-fiftys could be found in photographers kits around the world. And now with the advent of mirrorless cameras and Dp’s looking for character in their filmmaking projects, these fast primes are back with a vengeance and this Minolta 50mm 1.4 MD is no exception.
    So how does this 40 year old lens fair in todays high resolution sensor wars? Is the vintage feel of this lens usable in today’s market of hyper real content? How does this Minolta lens stand apart from the myriad of other 50mm primes?

      @@studiotrejo3047 You should do a review on the Zenitar-M 50mm f1.7. Its got a smooth bokeh out of this world. I also love that lens, it lives permanently on my Fujica ST801.

      So do I, it sets them apart from new glass. Someone wrote that the lens is like your paint brush on canvas. They are all different and give different effects. Thank you for watching!

  • @jamesjulian9830

    Thanks for the history lesson Alex! Seems like this one outperforms the Canon FD 50mm 1.4 which is definitely soft and low contrast when wide open.

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047  Před 2 lety

      Your welcome! I guess it depends on which Canon 50mm 1.4 you have. The newer models have better coatings but it could still render it soft and low contrast, which some people still like. Which version do you have?

    • @jamesjulian9830
      @jamesjulian9830 Před 2 lety +1

      @@studiotrejo3047 It's the classic FD circa 70s with the breech lock mount. It does have the SSC coating though.

    Great review. You're right about the hexagonal out of focus highlights. It was enough for me to sell mine and stick with the 55mm 1.7. The 55mm I have still has 6 blades but I felt like it had slightly smoother rendering.

    Minolta lens is cheap because the camera line was discontinued. Will there be a video about Tominon 55mm f1.2?

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047  Před 2 lety

      That is true they are cheap and discontinued. Another great reason to pick one up. If I get my hands on a Tominon 55 f1.2 I would review it. Not only is it fast at 1.2 but that extra reach at 55 will give it more Bokeh. Thank you for watching!
