    FYI. You can also make crucible from Portland Cement powder in a steel bowl. It will absorb lead oxide to refine gold to remove base metals and purify it. This shown by video from mbmmllc Mt Baker Mining & Metals LLC in his smelting videos.

    Hi, I tried your method, but the smooth surface inside the bowl does not stay there permanently because the crushed brick is still loose. So, as soon as you flip the crucible upside down all this crushed material comes down as dust, leaving porous surface behind inside the bowl. Applying borax straight on the smooth crushed surface (without flipping the bowl) partially works; there is some parts in the bowl where the crushed dust under the borax surface is still loose, and comes out as soon as you flip the bowl. I may be missing something in your video but you need to show how the smooth surface (somehow) permanent and stays on the surface of the bowl. Perhaps apply the borax yourself and show us the process. I had used half of the map cylinder for this. Nada! I would appreciate it if you comment. Thanks.

  • @koltoncrane3099
    @koltoncrane3099 Před 3 lety +1

    One trick I learned is to refine gold with lead. Lead will absorbing the gold. Then you remove your flux waste and put the lead button back onto the crucible. And then you heat it up to melt the lead and the crucible absorbs the lead and leaves the gold.

    • @koltoncrane3099

      It’s called cupelation I think. But I’m not sure if it needs a special crucible to do or not.

    • @richardmccann4815
      @richardmccann4815 Před rokem

      The lead is superheated and boils away into the air, very little is absorbed into a crucible! So believe what you will, but wear a respirator with filters for lead fumes! That's some serious damage you can do to yourself and your kids, by breathing fumes and thinking the lead is getting absorbed! And it's pretty inconsiderate of the environment, many old school mining and refining methods were devastating to the biosphere! Don't try this indoors, and don't try this stuff if you really have no idea what you are doing!

    Beside, I would, sincerely and humbly, like to suggest you to try to make your videos a little bit shorter. In these times it's hard to sit down and watch a long video. Especially if I am studying a subject, particularly I am assembling a lost wax casting system with all the components made at home, I have to watch a lot of videos during the weekend which is the time I have for this. Every minute counts.

      I may not have tried so far with thinner pieces of bricks because I am melting metals on acetylene gas. There may be a partial melting of the bricks if the fire is over 3000 Celsius, but this rarely happens if care is taken.

      @@martin11844 Are you sure about that? I have few actual firebricks (dirty white - creame color) from old furnace (1950-60) and cutting those without an angle grinder are real pain, material is tough and has diffrent structure - dense not porous. Just search images of both materials, you will see diffrence. EDIT: Well, after thinking about that. Maybe name of that material depends on where you live. If I going to buy something like that, I must search for the "aerated concrete bricks/blocks". In the end it is not that important, just look for the proper type of it. I believe here is the same material (in US, Dussan is from Serbia and I'm from Poland) - czcams.com/video/VTzKIs19eZE/video.html
