For offroad, longevity and reliability there is no question. 4Runner all the way. If someone were to offer to give me any one of the 3, I would still pick the 4Runner. If they were to change anything on the 4Runner I would like to see an 8 speed or 10 speed automatic transmission which would result in better fuel economy. But that would be it. But I just bought a new 2023 4Runner TRD Pro and I will probably have it for at least the next 20 years so I won't be getting another car anytime soon.

One little reminder. 4runner modell SR5, TRD Off Road or TRD Pro has NO CENTRAL DIFFERENTIAL (NO permanent 4wheel drive), only Limited and Nightshade has it. Which is pitty because 4gen 4runned with V8 had the central diff in all trims. So in fact hard to compare these 3 cars. Now only GX has full time 4WD. Thats weird.... i personaly have 4Runner Nightshade and drives well. Not super fast nor economic in fuel. But lot of aftermarket mods/parts available. I won't change it yet to LC or GX....

I do like Land Cruiser with the round headlights but (minor complaint) I think it's dumb that they left the cupholders in the rear when there's no 3rd row rear seating on the US version. I wish all 3 options had a retractable panoramic sunroof. Only the Lexus has the larger sunroof but it doesn't open 🫤.

The difference between the 5th gen 4Runner and the new Land Cruiser comes down the difference between the new Prado and the old Prado…. Because let’s be honest that is what the 5th gen is. While I love the look of the 1958 specifically, for considerably less you can get the proven, absolutely bullet proof 5th gen. I was consiythe new cruiser but the lack of a 3rd row option and the more upkeep it will need being a turbo/hybrid setup, we decided to go 5th gen. Long term ownership was the major deciding factor. The 4Runner will simply need less work (turbos at 150k, hoses, timing belts, battery pack at 15 years)… the 4Runner is better choice in that regard. Even despite its known shortcomings, it’s the vehicle I would actually like to own and use for the longterm. This is coming from 25 years + of Cruiser ownership and a huge love them.

Can the payload rating really take advantage of that 8000 lb towing capacity or is that just an inflated rating? Also how well will the hybrid system work when towing? Some of these details will be a little ways off and by that time, getting one of these will be near impossible I'm sure. The dealer markups will add $10K as well.

It’s not the motors that are the main deciding factor between the GX and the Land Cruiser 550. It’s that - for now - there are no TRD or TRD Pro versions of it to match the Overtrail version of the GX. So, off-road, the GX has an advantage in all the numbers.
For me, the 4Runner is out because we test drove it when we bought my wife’s 2018 Land Cruiser 200 and I’m too tall. I hit my head on the ceiling unless I leaned the seat back some. This doesn’t happen in the Land Cruiser 200 or our 2002 Sequoia.
PS: I was leaning towards the new Defender 110, but a bit worried about reliability. Not an issue with Toyota, as my wife has put 150K miles on the Land Cruiser (in less than 5 years), 150K on the GX she had before that, and we’re at over 200k+ miles on the 2002 Sequoia. If you are religious about doing the regular maintenance, Toyotas last forever. (My father in law has a 1978 Land Cruiser on the sheep station in Australia and it’s still going strong.)

The new Land Cruiser is going to have a third row option, none of the preproduction models have them installed, but the storage option at the back of the cargo bay is going to be used as foot space when the third row seats are installed and is additional storage for the 2 row. There are a few videos that mention the 3rd row being an option.

old school, tested, reliable, durable = current 4runner. With regular maintenance, it will last a few hundred thousand miles. With the newer models, they will be more expensive, with a high mark up in the first 1-2 years because everyone will want one and the reliability to be determined. I have had a 2005 4R with 80k miles with no issues made the mistake of trading it in and now got a new one last year 4R had to pay MRSP not happy about it but better than other dealers charging 1-5k mark up.

Thank you. You are the first youtuber I've seen after the Landcruiser USA launch who's putting the "landcruiser" in its right place. It's a 4 runner dressed up as premium off-roader. I've been watching a whole lot of youtube videos since the launch and they're all huffing and puffing about the marvel that is the new version while never mentioning the fact that it's NOT a true landcruiser! If you've ever driven or even gotten close to the 300 series that is sold in Australia, Europe or Asia, you'd realize that the toyota is taking Americans for fools. That 300 series is a behemoth that is roughly selling for $95K and deservedly so. The genuine fans of the old Landcruiser who pined for its comeback here are not the ones looking for a "cheaper" version of the Landcruiser. They wanted a real article. What they're getting is a freaking prado/4 runner/gx. The Japanese have got to cut down on their sake intake imao.
