      Especially since this did not show the right way to solder. You don't put the solder on the iron (apart from tinning), you heat the part and apply the solder to the part.

      I have my way, you have yours. My way obviously works and I’ve been doing this for small joints for 20 years without issue. It really however depends on what you’re soldering. O gauge track for example requires heating the rail then applying solder.
