  • Hey folks, today we are going to be discussing how to save TISSUE CULTURED AQUARIUM PLANTS! I don't even know how many times I've walked into the local big box pet store, or local fish store/aquascaping store and seen that their invitro plant starts AKA "TISSUE CULTURES" are starting to melt, rot, mold and die- turning white, yellow and uhhgg... black even.
    But what can we do to save these plants? Well, let's use some cutting edge science to discuss just this issue! Maybe you can save some big money on your aquascape and fish tank decor budget. Be it high tech or low tech, we've got a path for success with these beautiful organisms!

    Another great helpful video! Thanks, man!
    We only have 1 LFS worthy of going to, so I do go to our 2 petsmarts and 2 petcos looking for good tissue cultures. I've found some great unexpected plants from them! Anyway, a couple months ago I asked an employee if I could get 75% off one of those tiny 4 packs because 3 were DEFFINATELY dead and the kid comes back with it and says the mgr will take 20% off! LMAO!! At $15.99 minus 20% off ($3.20) the manager expected someone to pay $12.79 for ONE teeny tiny Anubius! I couldn't believe it! I HAD to talk to the mgr LOL I pointed out the numbers and he bent.... and offered 25% off was "the best he could do" LOL!! I just chuckled and left while saying $4 is better than nothing, so have fun with nothing.
    I'm SURE many many stores across the country and probably the world where the manager would be smart enough to give 75% off or even free! So I'll keep trying....

    My method is to remove manualy what you can and then move in bowl with fresh water and bladder or ramshrom snails. Put bowl under natural light in cold water without heater. Cold water will slow down plant melting. Dont feed bladder snails until they eat all unhealthy parts of the plant. You can also add few Rocks or sand for calcium, both plants and snails like hard water. They maybe called pest snails but they will not touch healthy plant

      Nice! No any mold in a tissue culture is living off the agar in the bag, itll die under water and a clear fungi will take over ...which is harmless and snails, shrimp and fish actually seem to enjoy

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, you sure can. You just want to start at a leaf node or rhizome fork/split - because any place on the plant that tissue changes texture and colors, you find those growth cells aka "stem cells"... stem plants don't even need those in order to trim, but rosettes/runners like sword plants and rhizomes plants need either damage or a growth signal via hormones at one of those tissue intersections in order to try putting out more leaves, or more rhizome
