Further adventures with the Sony AN-1 active wide-range antenna! In this video, I couple it to a Grundig Yacht Boy 205 AM/FM/SW radio with the supplied ANC-2 antenna coupler for use on medium wave. As you will see, the results are spectacular!

Greetings your way. I found your channel this afternoon, and have enjoyed spending an hour or so with
you. Usually, about an hour or so is all that my eyes will allow me to read or watch YT vids anymore. I had already
done my allotment of reading today before finding your channel. I tried different glasses to see which would allow me to read/view your channel.

Say, the reason I looked up your site is that it seems far more “tuned-in” to
my “current” needs. No puns intended until I saw them. Then could not pass
on them. OK- All that said, I have two
Grundig radios for many, many years.
I’d like to play antenna with them, and see if there’s more of my world to be heard. One is a Grundig Yachtboy 205, as the one you video’d about. The other
is a Grundig 3033. Both working fine with orig. internal ferrite core antennae. The 205 has its orig. clip-on stranded-wire 6-1/2ft. external antenna.
The 3033 has its internal, directional ferrite antenna coming out of the back, and plugging into one of two, two-prong plugs. I was told the second set of holes is for plugging in an external
long-wire, outside antenna. The existing dual-prong, dual-stranded wire appears to be the old-fashioned TV aerial flat wire.
I don’t have a length of that wire, unfortunately (I think). I do, or did, have a set of radio single plugs. Its been so long, and so many moves that I don’t know where I would locate them here.
And, being 100% rated disabled on oxygen, I doubt I’d have the steam to look for them. I would LOVE to find a Grundig antenna plug for this.
So- how long single stranded type anntenna is optimal for the #205?
And, what thoughts have you on the
#3033? OBTW, About 20yrs ago I had this radio overhauled professionally.
Including the external wooden case.
I recall the technician telling me that
unless I wanted a lot of SW, that the
internal directional antenna oughtta be fine for general use. That was on the East coast in Connecticut. I’m now in
North Idaho at about 2k ft elev.

Wow, it makes a massive difference with the antenna and coupler. I like using my Tecsun AN-200 loop which is decent but it needs to be timely tuned when you change frequencies on your radio. 73, Ron.

Wow! That antenna really woke up that radio. If only it still widely available. I am consideing buying the Tecsun AN-48x antenna though. That one also has a ferrite coupler for AM/MW. Good Job Radiodog. 👍
Thanks for the comment! I haven't given much thought to that An-48x. I have the MLA-30 loop, but I haven't really tried it. Looks kinda junky to me, but it seems like it's getting some decent reviews. That'll be a future video, to be sure.
I bought the little Sony P26 for its rumored great battery life and AM reception and it was true. It works well with my Tecsun loop. It`s a true analog radio as well with no horrible soft mute. A great digital radio without soft mute on weak stations is the Eton Elite Traveler but it eats batteries. I use rechargeable AAs in it. I`m gonna have to get one of those antennas. Maybe you could connect a wire to the antenna and lengthen it?

Well hello tom very nice device that sony say one availible several years ago but at the time dident realize all of its capibilities.im looking at the new tecsun ant. From anon co and i have the twin coil from ccrane which is a very big help on mw dx..i really like the sangean 405 for its many feathers unlike any other radio loging some great finds with that one. Hello. Maybe it works on analog radio, but I tried with lots of Sony ICF's and it even goes worse. By the way, I'm bases in Europe. If it had variable capacitor maybe it would perform better for me. Thanks!
Looking to improve AM reception for my parents radio. Would the Sony antenna coupler work on its own or would it also need an external antenna? Looking for something we can use inside with the radio and not require me running anything outside. If you can recommend a commercially made antenna I can use inside that would help also. We get good decent reception but just trying to clear a few channels up.

@@tvradio1972 It appears to work well. I wonder if it could be modified to be a super AM antenna by making the loop bigger? For such an inexpensive price it would be fun to experiment with.

TIG NIM .... Look up a passive loop antenna for AM on CZcams or the internet. There are instructions for how to build them. You can get the 365 PF air variable tuning capacitor and wire to build it off of Amazon.
