    Good tips. Had one of these for 5 years. The velcro is crap but not a major issue. Other than that, all was good. Just be sure to clean your zips after dusty tracks. That's what killed mine.

    These are terrific modifications, I'll be doing all of them. I'd like to see a close up of how you've put the central brace onto the side bars. Are you just using a push on clip that the end of the rod fits into? Would like to see a close up. Great, thanks, Robin!

    Mate, many thanks for your brilliant review. I will be using several of your tips. However don’t know if you have seen it, but a company called Drifta’ make a pre-manufactured spreader bar that fit Kings And also TJM.
    Hope the fishing was great. And thanks again.

    Can you please give more detail about how you drilled the holes in the bottom of the upright poles? I'm not an experienced handyperson and the drill bit just keeps slipping all over the place. Also what have you inserted through the holes to prevent the rope from cutting please?

      It's just a flap of Velcro so when attach original flap it's joins straight not on an angle which just peels off in windy conditions

      Buy the plastic clips from bcf, make the spreader bar from pvc tubing or old tent poles

    • @rodnrosie
      @rodnrosie Před 2 lety +2

      I've bought a 275 cm long C clip T-nut spreader pole from Snowys to go side to side or you can buy an already 2.5m curved spreader pole from Drifta that goes from vehicle side of awning to the front of the awning. I'm also in Perth.

    great ideas but i was wondering how you fixed the velcro straps what you said was to me not very clear, can someone or you give me more detail, i know the straps are cheaply attached, and not sure how to make more secure. with the cross brace i chose a twist lock pole from an old mop, and added a piece of 25mm aluminium tubing to it, works fine so far. I also liked the carabiner idea too, thanks again

    • @robincoker225
      @robincoker225  Před 2 lety +1

      I have removed canvas and sown the Velcro strips on over original Velcro. The strip needs to be only sown on the end which becomes a flap of Velcro so the other peice of Velcro which goes around the pole can attach along it giving a better connection. The way you buy the awning the Velcro strips attach on an angle and peel off with the wind. If that makes sense

    • @roscored1000
      @roscored1000 Před 2 lety +1

      @@robincoker225 wow fast response, sort of makes sense, so you sew the new fluffy bit over the old, at the 1.08 mark it looks like the new hook part of it is a separate strap that is freely around the pipe which then attaches to the old reinforced velcro?
      But then mine is an old second hand one so it cost me nothing, i have also taken the old shitty cheap pop rivets out and replaced with heavier ones, and the cheap 6mm bolts holding the arms on are now M8 with nylocks and a piece of AL right angle to take the pressure off the thin walled extrusion when extended. the side bars are weird in that the spike on the end doesnt go all the way in because of the tarp slide extrusion so i put a small block in between the two thin walls to give it some more to bite into. It wouldnt take much to turn this thin wobbly device into something that would last much longer. Oh and the pop rivets joining the two mounting plates together were all but missing so heavier pops with bigger flanges were used and now shouldnt shake to pieces.
