      Hi! I've separated from the USAF after 11 years back in 1990. Your channel was just recommended to me and I'm truly glad that it was. I know very well how excellent a pilot you need to be to be selected to the Thunderbirds. However, I have a question, do you have a video or have mentioned in one of your videos the incredibly talented and dedicated the Thunderbirds maintenance and ground support crew?

    When I was like 8yo my dad took me to a undeveloped dead end street and we watched the blue angels practice before the weekends show. One of the pilots saw us and flew over us upside down at way less than 500 feet, and proceeded to give us a thumbs up. Coolest experience ever.

      I'm an electrician and got to work on Holloman AFB for about 4 years around 2013-2017 upgrading the runway and taxiway lights and signs. Being about 2 feet off the runway surface while the vipers were coming and going was by far the highlight of my life! Most of the pilots were super cool too and would enduldge an excited 23 year old construction worker by throwing up "viper" hand signals and a couple of times they even nodded to me, kicked on afterburners and looked to my best impression of take off "go" signals before they flat out sent it! Oh man I'm getting chills just thinking about it. I've been into jets since a kid and I am so thankful to have those memories. Now I get to watch videos and play Ace Combat with my 6 year old son and tell him stories of how dad was there and how the wind gets sucked out of your lungs when they go by. Lol Thanks for the videos and beloved memories!

    Love seeing the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds at various air shows. That said I’d like to offer my deepest condolences to the family and air show friends of Chris Darnell, the driver of the SHOCKWAVE Jet Truck, who lost his life in an air show accident yesterday in Michigan. I’ve seen and enjoyed Mr. Darnell’s performance several times.

    Wow that's really cool! I love the blue angels, mostly because I grew up with my dad as an F 18 pilot. But I got to see the Thunderbirds in action when my family moved to Nellis, where my dad flew A4s for Draken, so I now have an appreciation for both teams. He now flies in North Carolina and is learning the Mirage F 1.

  • @ResolUloseR
    @ResolUloseR Před 2 lety +6

    The thing that kinda irks me at some of the civilians who come to watch both teams at these air shows is their lack of understanding just how difficult formation flying really is...especially at these minimum distances. I mean I understand why they love the boom and zoom segments of the show...but I think a lot of the grasp of just how skilled all these pilots are is lost on most air show guests, unfortunately. I always talk about it to others at the show...then tell them to drive home on a highway...and trying to do it while looking at a single point on a car in the lane next to them. I miss doing air shows.

      Lots and lots of training, plus having everything properly scripted out. Having those moments in the routine that are relatively “chill” gives their bodies a chance to recover faster than that of normal people. As an example, I learned to play basketball later in life. The more experienced I got, the more I settled into the routine and realized I didn’t have to go 100% all the time. I could recognize the times I could dial back, and therefore save and recover energy that would end up getting wasted. This let me play longer and more effectively. I would say they are doing a very similar concept by being in great shape, tons of practice, and utilizing energy management.
