He had to know it too before they even finished shooting it. Half of his stuff is like this; even if some of it is cringe or distasteful. It’s stimulating intellectually because it’s so different than the norm we’re used to in that it’s not just scripted entertainment. It’s like experimental performance art
It’s so funny how the middle girl was smart enough to realize that Nathan’s completely arbitrary, but like most people, she simply caved in to social pressure because it is easier to simply conform.
the little black girl almost made me tear up when she said one of the girls at school is mean to her, sounded like she was about to bust out into tears :(

@@user-fb8ee7ec8e If you read between the lines he's actually talking about people in general. Think of Supreme for example. Their products are not aesthetically pleasing, but they carry an identity with them and that's what they sell you.
well the people that listen to Nathan are convinced he is a genuine bussines guy, they only know in the end that it was a comedy. The idea is funny but the store owners get fooled a bit too much if you ask me. And one article said that he rushes the contract for filming so the store owners can’t see it’s a comedy that they are dragged into, because he wants a real reaction on camera.
Right? The commercial was amazing. Low key feels like some kind of satire you’d see randomly thrown onto adult swim in the middle of the night or something
It seems like the whole purpose of this show is to prove that not enough of those laws exist, or maybe just that there's no room for ethics in capitalism
There's also the feeling, when you watch commercials like these, that "other people seeing this commercial will be convinced by it and they'll adopt its values, so unless I conform to those values I'll be left behind." So even when you're not personally convinced at all, the commercial creates peer pressure out of thin air. You don't even need to be pressured by your actual peers for it to work, the commercial can make that threat for them.
From what I've seen the owners are usually supportive of Nathan's plans, even if its only a little. Mark outright rejecting him just adds to the whole clip
Otherwise many more people wouldn’t agree to be on this show. I can imagine it’s something along the lines with how prankers say it’s just a prank by the end.
When given the opportunity to decline the abuse of children, the toy store was easily bought off, the dozen(s?) of people producing the commercial were apathetic, even the television gatekeepers cautiously stepped around the issue. Only One Man, who had the most to gain, had the moral integrity to stand up for The Right Thing and called out Nathan boldly for his bullying and psychological manipulation of children: Mark. Today Nathan showed us an inventive business man with integrity and genuine respect for his customers as fellow human beings, and if that's not a reason to go out there and buy a Doink It, I don't know what is. 🤔
noooooo the kid was getting emotional about being bullied and he just promoted the Doink-it oh noooo. ugh that's actually really awful oh my gosh why am i laughing. but seriously i hope she doesn't get bullied anymore

The thing is she seems intuitive enough for her age. I hope the kids all got told this wasn't real because being watched by adults in a room, with cameras and lights and having to make a decision while you're being manipulated, can definitely come back to haunt you when you're older enough to fully grasp the gravity of the situation.
