Back in 2017 my mother had a mammogram done and it came back clear. Three weeks later I found a mass lump on her breast which turned out to be breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy done by May of 2018. Fastforward to 2021 and as I go to get my yearly mammogram he sent me for an ultrasound. It came back that I had abnormal tissue and there was abnormal tease around my areolas and a mass in my left breast. I go for a biopsy and I'm only going to hope for the best. To all the ladies out there please make sure to keep yourself checked and to stay healthy. May God have mercy on every woman that has to go through this

This video could saves so many lives... I went for mammogram, very dense breast, I got a breast ultrasound, then the results came back 2 separate issues in each breast. Now I’ve got a breast biopsy with a surgeon very soon. Im so nervous and have a lot of anxiety of procedure and especially results. I hope everything will end up being ok.... 💪🎗💕 I love Joan Lunden for being an advocate for women!

I have always followed up with breast ultrasounds after my "everything looks fine" mammograms because I have dense breasts. However, last week my mammogram showed "something" and they will be doing more scans and an ultrasound on Friday. Obviously, I am very anxious. I am relieved I don't have to wait too long before the appt, and luckily, the results will be explained to me at the appt, so no waiting for results. I recognize there is nothing I can right now but hope for the best, and yet here I am, watching breast cancer videos at 2 in the morning. I need to be ok.

Just found out at age 46 both breast are dense level 1, my doctor said it’s nothing to worry about but the radiologist is making it mandatory for me to do yearly mammogram, so nervous and concerned about this.

I found a lump a month ago. Last week , I had a mamogram and sonogram. It turned out to be a cyst ( benign) . The sonogram lady said that I do very good self exams because the cyst was only less then a 1/2 centimeter .. So not only should you do your yearly mammograms do your monthly self exams.

I wish I had additional tests done when I had my first mammogram and I had to ask for a mammogram because I wasn't 50. I was told that I was fine and not more than a year later I was at stage 3 breast cancer and it was metastatic.

Good to know about dense breast, but they are not always giving us the ultrasound.

I appreciate her work on this - sadly, in our system, many - even people with health insurance, cannot afford to push for a sonography. Even the 3D mammagram costs more in my state. It was all covered when I lived in another state. As with many other fatal illnesses, we as a wealthy country, have not put in any systemic changes to deal with the costs - medical industry does not care, it's all about having money. This was always true for the poor - now it is becoming a middle class issue - even for people like me- a teacher/counselor with a bachelor and masters degree from two good schools. Had you told me back then I would not have decent health insurance...maybe I would have chosen something different. It's sad and it's happening everywhere. My father was a professor; my mother a teacher - they had excellent care all through there lives - that has all changed. I went bankrupt once due to medical screw up on a hysterectomy in Maryland. I do not mean "poor me" - I mean- if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. So much for going into a "life of service" which Oprah counsels all the time. I did it; I am glad, but it has left me and millions with really bad care. ACA actually made it worse. It's so screwed up. I have lost all faith in our govt, its systems, all of it. I feel foolish I believed law, etc. would protect me - it won't. I know many have it much much worse...so I look up to God and pray for a higher court of justice. And yes, I have dense breasts.

I am 57, have dense breast tissue. I get a 3D mammogram every year but my doctor doesn't feel an ultrasound is necessary even though I have pain in the left and report it each exam.

I have "extremely dense" 36 G-H breasts and they always hurt. I've gone to the Dr many times, but they always say nothing is wrong. I wish my insurance would pay for a reduction.

My head is spinning , i was 53 yrs old at diagnosis...the age my mother was when she died from ovarian........ I have triple negative breast cancer just like Joan Lunden... ... diagnosed 3/16/16 with biopsy...we found it early,0.9 cm stage 1 ... the oncologist was very confident that it would be nearly dead within 4 rounds of chemo (Taxotere and Carboplatin) it was nearly gone after the third treatment...they could barely see it on ultrasound...they were so happy...so we did the last treatment, had bilateral mastectomies on 7/28 because i'm BRACA 1 positive, thats what you do, im a carrier....(their only surprise during surgery was finding cancer in 2 lymphs, so they took 11... dr said they only worry when they find it in 4 or more) sooooo ..had reconstruction, I was told NO radiation needed... my expanders finally came out on 10/10/16 and implants put in...they reconstructed nipples from my own skin on 12/13/16...still uncomfortable......but i was healing nicely, was told i was cancer free....and my hair is growing back....soooo looking forward to putting 2016 behind us!!! then i find a lump on the left side about 2 inches below my collarbone....hoped it had something to do with the surgery....went to my breast surgeon...ultrasounds, biopsies...ct's, pet scans, blood work...all in a matter of 3 days....METASTATIC triple negative breast cancer...so far local metastasis ... (pet has not shown any lymph or distant spread) Seems to be 5 spots or masses around the left reconstructed breast....my head is spinning...i feel like i did not get the right treatment....as far as i was told this was going to be all behind be in a year....words from my MD last July.....ALSO...my job has "rolling FMLA" and they say i have only 2 hours left.I should be eligable for fmla again at the end of march i think.......I'm going to lose my job and my health insurance....what do i do now??????....omg....i cant make sense of anything right now.....i feel so lost.....i just need some type of direction or help.....

One in eight is wrong. If it's dense, or a mold ,bacteria, all you need to do is eat right.

I have dense breasts and I kept getting sent for mammogram only--not even the new 3-D machine. I received a letter telling me I was clear. Six months later I discovered a large tumor in my breast while taking a shower. Stage III cancer could have been prevented. Ask your doctor if you have dense breasts. If you do, ask for another test besides the mammogram--MRI or Ultra Sound.
