  • On Sunday, September 18th, Hurricane Fiona made landfall on the souther shore of Puerto Rico as a Category 1 hurricane. Although its winds were not as powerful as those of Hurricane María, Fiona brought with it copious amount of rain that caused extreme flooding and landslides which destroyed roads, bridges, and people’s homes. This is what the aftermath was really like in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Fiona.

Thank you for this information Brik. The news kind of glossed over Hurricane Fiona. Glad to know what it's really like and how I can help.

Hey Sarah! Thank you so much for considering helping Puerto Rico during this time! Luckily it wasn’t as devastating as Hurricane Maria, but it did greatly impact some municipalities, unfortunately. 😔🙏🏼🇵🇷

When I heard category 1, I wasn't too worried for Puerto RIco. Then when I heard that the entire island was without power, I though, "Uh oh." It seems like the only good thing about Fiona is that it wasn't as bad as Maria. But she definitely disrupted things, and caused her fair share of damage. I'm glad that the recovery wasn't nearly as bad and prolonged as Maria, too. Either way, hate to see Puerto Rico go through this.

I think we all thought the same thing. People got prepared, but we didn’t expect that flooding would be so extreme in certain areas. It feels like people’s property either got light damage or extremely heavy damage, no in between. Either way, like you said, it’s a shame that it affected so many people negatively. Hopefully things will be better in the future. 🙏🏼🇵🇷

@@BriksTravelGuides It's crazy to think that for SOME people, Fiona was more destructive and disruptive than Maria was. But that apparently was the case.

One person commented on this video that their kids school hasn’t been able to open yet because of damages from the hurricane. Unfortunate reality we’re living. PR is beautiful, but puertorricans face mountains of challenges.

My kids' school , Luis M Santiago , received damage. They just started going back to school for a half of day on certain days at the high school until they can fix the school

One of the many negative side effects of natural disasters and other events in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, many kid’s education is being hindered by all of this. Espero que puedan arreglar la escuela pronto! La educación es demasiado importante para un mejor futuro en Puerto Rico. 🙏🏼🇵🇷📖

Hey Brik! Thanks for posting updates about the hurricane and the aftermath. My students have been doing a donation drive for hurricane relief efforts; we will be sending some boxes to Florida and would love to send some to PR as well. Which organizations are accepting physical donations?
