    Thanks Teal. Great information. My husband and I are divorcing after 33 years and we have done most of the right steps that you mention. We are even helping each other move and he’s set me up with utilities in my new place. I’ve bought him all that he will need (household items) for his place since he hates shopping. We will always love each other and care about each other but it’s time for separate paths now. Our 4 grown children are witnessing a loving and amicable divorce. I hope they’re learning that relationships do change and marriage isn’t always forever but the love can be. 💜💜💜

      VentionMGTOW Wow that’s a whole lot of generalization. Number one- My son is about to get married. Number two- who still thinks you have to be married to have a baby?! Lol Number three- I’m in my 50’s and retired too. See how that works? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    in my experience its easiest to stay friends (or maybe even reconnect in a relationship) if you stop talking and take a break, and then when you're both over it, talk again, because up until then there is so many hurt feelings involved

    Maybe the relationship didn't work but that doesn't mean you don't love each other, you will be there for each other and deep in your heart you know you'd do anything for that person, there will always be a strong connection

    • @TacticalNuke321
      @TacticalNuke321 Před 2 lety +6

      That might sound all fine and good but you have to factor in what’s best for the person that got dumped and is in emotional turmoil because of it. Personally I wouldn’t be friends with someone that broke my heart. My dignity is too strong to accept myself to settle for less than what I desire emotionally, physically and mentally. If someone walks out of a relationship with me then I’m not going to chase or follow that person, I’m keeping it where she left it behind and if she doesn’t want it then someone else will. I’m sure she would have other friends that could be there for her, but I’m not going to be just another one of them, because I know I’m worthy of something more than just friendship. It’s just boundary of mine.

      I think that's not true. I think the definition of a break up is that you stop loving each other. You may still like each other and trust each other, but this deep love is gone. Otherwise you would still be in the relationship

    I love that your former fiancee and your former partner are friends! I usually stay friends with my ex's. I don't see any need to cut somebody, who I cared about deeply, out of my life permanently. I usually do that for a short amount of time and then work them back in to my life within their new role as a friend.

    I want to thank you for validating my personal experience. I'm often told "you should be mad or just cut if off " and I have most often, when mutual, found that transitioning to friendship or even a slow letting go and conversation is much less ripping and traumatic. I thought it was just my attachment style. I do therapy with couples and this is how I approach folks who might be splitting up as well. Thank you for supporting and encouraging a gentle and human loving approach to relationship!!

    I screamed in pain and rage the other day in total nature at night as I was doing the inwardness process instead of dwelling in anger over my husband's blaming, insinuating and accusing. An owl came over, said something that sounded like "We love you" and then imitated the exact crying sounds I had made just a few minutes before. Ha. I felt understood and loved.

    Decoupling a poly relationship based on a single incompatibility. We are still deeply in love, but I am already married with children and he wants that for himself. We have become so attached that we now have to decouple so that he can follow his truth and meet his need of having a life partner and children of his own. This video has been very validating for what we are trying to do and helping me to not reject the parts of myself that feel such deep emotional hurt and the parts of me that are not willing to let go of our connection.

      It's been 3 years since I've watched Teal's video haha, so I don't really remember what she said. Maybe there was something in there about having to fully accept that there won't be any 'getting back together.' And then it's possible for friendship to work out. I was pretty desperate to keep my ex in my life, and the 'best friends' thing seemed like a good way to do it. However, I still had (and currently have) romantic feelings toward him (though I denied it at the time). And deep down, I wanted us to get back together. At the same time, the things that had upset me during our relationship was continuing to upset me during our period of 'friendship.' Things just weren't working out very well. We don't really talk these days. It's still quite painful
      Still, wishing you the best. I didn't know love could be so complicated.

    Not everyone wants to be a part of their exes lives. I hate the "let's be friends" are breakup thing. It's just a crutch and eventually when either of you find someone else you will not want much to do with the ex friend-wise. Every ex of mine who tried the friends thing with me, simply want to stop me from moving on from them. It was used as a form of control. People who still have love for each other can't be friends. That love will tie them right back up together. I'm not even friends with my baby Father for the simple reason that he was a terrible friend. It's Ok to not want to be friends with your ex and politely express that and hold that boundary.

    For me, if a girl dumps me, being just friends with her is not going to work for me, because we were more than that. I have too much dignity to accept being downgraded, settle for less than what I desire emotionally, mentally, physically, and watch her date other guys. That’s just my boundary. Maybe in the future IF I end up having no romantic interest in her, then we could possibly be friends, But other than that, if she walks out of the relationship then I’m not going to chase her or follow her. It’s all or nothing.

    Teal, sometimes somethings are best meant to die. It is true that the pain one feels after ending a relationship are sharp, what is far worse is seeing that loved one in a relationship with another, seeing them kiss, seeing them affectionately caress each other and know, absolutely know......or worse kind of hope that they break up ...not bc you want to redate him necessarily but bc she's not right for him. If one is honest in assessing why losing this person hurts so bad one will realize its because they are so special, so utterly and uniquely different …..that you wanted this person to share the rest of your life with.. to marry this person....Teal, trying to be friends and really be there for that person and to spend quality one on one friend time and travel together …..you will find that the flicker of that most fickle, dangerous and flame one can perish in, not withstanding the admittedly exquisite nature of "make up" love, that Teal this rebirth is most often a fascade and like the shadows on Plato's wall are but just a reflection of what is really real and important, and that is finding the right man, this truly true love that is out there, one that will love and adore you, treat you with respect and love and surprise with wonderful joys that only you-twos love can unlock, that person who will commit to giving you their live and earning your love through marriage and family. Not, with this incredible person and their friend, their x girlfriend who they spend good quality alone time and sometimes travel alone, in each others life ………….or your friend and him......NO, Teal, swallow the pain, and get through it and truly before you know it the pain will be gone, period and you will be SO grateful that you ended it and move on. Regardless of what he says or the god forbid...""friends with benefits"...….trust and believe regardless of whatever you will end up feeling used and bitter going down this dead end road with no future.

    This video has given me some hope. It's been 4 years since my breakup with my partner. We were together nearly 3 years, however I was very young and he was a bit older and more mature than me. Since then I've dated a few people and I have a loving partner now. But the shock of that sudden change, the ripping away of deep love and friendship was so traumatizing. It left him in a sort of victim mentality and me in a self-hate loop. I am hoping that this information applies to my circumstance as I realized I really truly want him in my life as someone I can support and cheer on and heal with. This has been the most traumatizing and debilitating situations in my life.

    Im so glad that you brought this up. After getting my divorce, I have a much better relationship with my exhusband. I have begun establishing my boundaries and both of those things have been very helpful for our daughter. Also coming from India, I had an arranged marriage which in my understanding is a relatively foreign concept to the Western Woeld. We arent friends but we now are extended family members for each other and will be there for each other when we can be as family. Also my divorce enabled me take accountability for my part in the game.

    Thank you, Teal Swan. I love what you say about the longevity of a relationship not equalling the quality of it. That really resonated with me. I think people in an authentic relationship are there to provide some insight and fulfillment and change/spiritual evolution for each other. But then, they might reach a point where there is nothing more to be learned from one another and move on. It doesn't mean the relationship is any less significant or fulfilling. ❤️

    • @dealingwithit302
      @dealingwithit302 Před 4 lety

      The uncoupling ceremony happens in divorce court. That's when the man is utterly obliterated in every way, chewed up and spat out into a back alley somewhere with everything he ever cared about taken from him. His family is gone, as is the relationship he thought meant something, and 95% of everything he owns is gone. It's such a source of beauty and closure, LOL. Due to the beauty of it all, the male suicide rate goes from 4 times the female rate to 9 times the female rate. In my case though I saw too many of my friends go through it. If it happened to me I'd probably decide to take my own life.
      I saw how dangerous it was back in 1997. That's when I chose not to marry.
      It's not all bad though. Money piles up when you're a single guy and the wealth that has accumulated has allowed me to retire 11 years early.

  • @heidijohnson3910

    This subject is an interesting one. I do have some experience with it and thought I would share. I don't think there is a right or wrong, but for me I will say after my experiences I would like to find my next love available, not close to the ex.
    I have been friends with one ex, we were together for 5 years before deciding to split. We had to turn our relationship in to a friendship because we bought a house together. Over time we got the house figured out during the 2007 recession. I moved out. We stayed friends for years and I even became friends with his current girlfriend who I love more than the ex lol. We were all such close friends it had it's issues, at one point we had to take a break to reestablish good boundaries. Nothing weird. I learned so much over a year of not talking to my ex I realized I needed to make room for a love relationship again. I asked myself was it healthy being friends with my ex? Moving forward I met a wonderful guy who I dated long distance, we new each over 28 years ago through a group of friends who we were close to. We were personally not close friends, but new each other, and had not spoke since we both moved away from home at a young age. Forward two years ago, before deciding too relocate to his state and city we talked about his relationship with his ex, I thought sure that sounds fine I understood the romantic ties had been over for many years. He truly felt like a soulmate. After 2 years of trying to fit in a new state new friends, family and the wife living a block away. I can tell you not all ex relationships are healthy. They still love each other, and his family loves her too they all have long roots going back 20 years. The boyfriend has a best friend his ex wife the sister in law and brother consider the ex wife a best friend. About 3 months ago I broke it off with him. I literally felt like I was trying to fit in where there was new room. We both cried so deeply it was so painful. I even went back to try again. My boyfriend did not want to change anything, even if he said he would his family didn't, they liked it the way it was, but not for me sadly. A person can't force change it will never work, they have to want to change. For something like this to work it also needs good boundaries and respect. Just remember if you want to be friends with your ex you still need to let go of them first so you can make room for someone new.

    Truly superb timing. The degree to which we, collectively, are abysmal at handling relationships and relationship transitions has always been startling to me, but updates in my own perspective have really cast brilliant stage lights on the scene, making unconscious and unhealthy responses in relationships especially obvious. This subject both draws me back to several previous relationship collapses and has me in the present moment looking on at the relationships my friends have. My wish and intention is to further embody these ideas and understandings myself and that we all open ourselves to the same. Our world needs us to be honest with ourselves and each other and communicate authentically. No more war.

      @@sabafsunflesh7726 this is correct allvater. Though you forget that yggdrasil (or the universe) is not a seperate thing to you. Like you having fragmentations in your psyche, like the one, that dont want to suffer anymore, you are a fragment of the universe. Try this - find the fragment of you, that wants to live. You have it or else you would be dead by now. Also find the fragment of you, that wants to end the suffering. - make a relationship between those. Make that the wellbeing of one is in the interest of the other.
      Do this and the universe responds with a being, that has your wellbeing in its interest. Some pain might come at times. But because of the joy, it is no suffering.

    I'm not sure how the relationship pieces can be reassembled into being, 'something infinitely more beautiful than they were to begin with', (stated at the very end). It is an appealing concept, while being a bit irrational. Since breakups become a growth mechanism for better relationships, which are achieved by breaking up. Human lives are just too short for this big picture cycle. Here, Teal's spirituality concepts seep in, and give support to her multiple lives cosmology. Oh well, we use what we can. Thanx

    This feels like a way to avoid the fact that something needs to end. Maybe some relationships need to end entirely, like with death. How can we know the difference between clinging on the something that is hurting us? I’m the modern world, we do have the ability of cutting someone off entirely for our own well-being. I admire this idea, but it takes a really enlightened person to achieve this I believe..
