  • In this video you will see Splitting Image Taxidermy's taxidermist Gavin, Rose and Pox create a world class Lion Trophy mount from start to finish.
    This video is divided into three sections. The first section showcases the mounting process of the lion. Making sure that the manikin is shaped to the right size to fit the skin. During this process you will also see how Gavin transforms the manikin to the desired pose that client requested.
    In the next section, which is known as finishing, we see Rose doing the final touch ups on the Trophy. The finishing process usually starts 6 weeks the mounting process, this is to allow the trophy to dry completely. The skin of the trophy will be treated with a shampoo to make sure that it is nice and clean. Rose will then do some light putty work on areas of the skin where there might be some damage, usually around the eyes, mouth and nose. Once Rose has completed this, she will then do some airbrush layering on the face, to emphasise a more lifelike trophy.
    This particular Taxidermy mount, the client requested to have his Lion mounted in full with habitat as the base. This habitat is created my our longest standing Taxidermist, Pox. In the process we see how Pox creates this habitat using two part foam, by pouring it over the base and shaping it into the desired "habitat."

    Taxidermy is amazing, unless it's done for some hunter as a trophy for his kill, but i love seeing taxidermy in nowadays museums, for educational purposes with a deceased animal, or as an art contest. This is freaking beautiful

    • @easypeezy03
      @easypeezy03 Před 2 lety +4

      Well even if it is a Hunter who wants their kill to be taxidermy it isn't wrong, as long as all the other parts aren't put to waste and the meat is eaten I don't see what's wrong with it since its still getting a full use out of the whole animal

    They should harvest animals for their pelts and make these realistic animal taxidermys and sell them so that everyone can have a life size realistic wild animal. It’d be so cool to have a realistic lion or elephant in your house. It could also maybe keep endangered animals breeding so that they don’t get extinct.

      It’s very rare anyone in modern taxidermy use the skeleton of animals. I think the only cases are horns and claws. Maybe teeth?
      The name itself just means “Movement of skin”. All we do is use animal’s hide and glue it down. That way muscle definition easily mimics the irl conformation. I don’t think you’d nail the same look with only bones lol
