- These easy Sloppy Joes are sweet and tangy, and the perfect sandwich for a comforting meal.
Sloppy Joe Ingredients:
- 450g lean ground beef (1lb)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper
- 6 burger buns, toasted

Corned beef with coleslaw, shmear of brown mustard on warm rye bread, with 1 sour pickle and 1 half-sour pickle. a side of a cup of matzo ball soup. And 1 can of Dr. Brown black cherry soda. The taste of nostalgia, and home and carefree childhood and euphoria.

I have never in my life thought about making Sloppy Joes out from scratch. But now I must try this out. It’s good to see that Joe lived up to its name. I also really enjoyed the history lesson in Sloppy Joe’s! Never knew it came from Havana. Really happy Miku got her treat!

Interesting, I never knew about the sweater being a sloppy joe, so weird. There is also an alternate sloppy Joe sandwich I didn't know of for most of my life, it is a deli sandwich, rye bread and deli meats, and looking it up just now I see it is actually a New Jersey, USA thing. I thought it was a Jewish deli thing.
I always want to like sloppy Joes but I just don't, too sweet maybe for me. Every so often I forget & want one so I buy canned SJ sauce & make with plant ground beefies.

The true origins of the sloppy Joe are unknown, there are 3 versions of the origin story one in Sioux City Iowa, One in Key West Florida and the last in Cuba. Second you have Jose Garcia (Sloppy Joe's Key West FL) Mixed up with Jose Abeal y Otero (Sloppy Joe's Havana Cuba) BUT did you know the loose meat sandwich dates back to the 1800s? Long before they ever added a tomato sauce and called them sloppy...Aldo there is no way to prove any of the origin stories though. Cuban dictator Fidel Castro caused tourism to end and Sloppy Joe's Havana closed in the 1960's and the other two also shut down...Sloppy! Where's Joe? Also American's aren't banned from Cuba, only for tourism. There are 12 other categories that American's can travel to Cuba.
