When a Brahman man asked The Buddha how to join his God after death, The Buddha did not deny his beliefs, but instead instructed him (speaking of the 4 Immesurable Minds). You can practice the Dharma along with your religion, certainly The Buddha would love that.

But just reading the Bible may not be enough as the wisdom of the bible is so high and dense it takes reading of some good old philosophy books too to help saturate the wisdom. The bible cuts straight to the point. I have found what philosophers put it in words much easier to digest as the Bible is dense in wisdom and takes time to actually digest. Plus mindfulness meditation can be used by Christians to calm our minds on our day to day lives. It doesn't mean you become Buddhist just because you meditate but I do agree with the fact that they have scientific way of it as they have practised more than us on mindful mediation. I don't believe they are anti-life and oddly enough it was Buddhism for me that really helped reaffirm that they're definitely is some kind of God or higher intelligence that is all loving .
But what happens sometimes in Buddhism is people reach a state where they experience some kind of emptiness and sometimes when you are there in the void you will feel there is no God no nothing and it is very frightening .
I believe that's why they have such a strong emphasis on prayer and visualizations with their different Buddhas and Saints ... other times you feel this powerful love out there that is all encompassing that flows within you and flows without you like this song by George Harrison .
So they don't call it God they call it MIND , they say only thing that really exists is mind ... and we are all one in that mind just like each individual drop of water makes the vast ocean

I can understand where youre coming from in the sense that once you truly become enlightened, the sense of separation from being is perhaps no longer there, thus it would be redundant to use labels such as 'God' and 'worhsipper' as that would entail that they are separate. Maybe the buddhists have bypassed this step and jumped straight into recognizing that true existence is one and only one. Even then I have issue with the fact that they refuse to attribute intent to 'God' or the 'mind' as you call it. As far as I have studied (which is surely not enough) about buddhism they see 'creation' as chaotic occurrence that just 'is', rather than having a specific purpose designed by a particular independent cause.

I currently go to a Christian church and am part of the local youth group, but I found it difficult to believe that God will get you through life struggles as long as you have faith in him. To put trust in an outside source like God in a foreign affair is like trusting in the stock market to miraculously work out in your favor without any research.
I seek Buddhism as a way to better my understanding of religion and philosophy, one cannot expect to win a bad situation by divine faith alone. It takes skill, preperation and reason to even have a chance of winning in a situation. There's more evidence for incidents occurring on the basis of luck.
God has given me direction, but my purpose is a fulfillment I can only grant myself.

Another comment said it, but Buddhism is not a religion, only a lifestyle. Like being a vegan or martial artist, painter or yoga instructor. The Buddha is a title, not a god, which means enlightened one, and is a teacher. So you can mix faith with lifestyle. Plenty of American Christians do it with their own lifestyles. I'm not saying this to change your mind, but in hopes that you will not judge me, but understand that in this modern day, faith in God isn't what is used to be because people simply become cynical with how ugly the world is

You can practice both but only if you’re part of one of the small universalist sects of Christianity you cannot in wider Christianity. This is because in Christianity the “path to enlightenment” if you want to call it that is devotion to Christ and aligning yourself with the will of the triune God and a constant turning away from your sins and commitment to the Church. This isn’t compatible with Buddhist belief in Dharma, cosmology, or spiritual practice. For one a Christian wouldn’t be able to see the Buddha himself as a spiritual guide as he was not a Christian and is therefore doesn’t qualify as a spiritual father. To most Christians Buddha is no different than Aristotle. Some good secular ideas but nothing spiritual claimed or said is valid as he doesn’t meet the criteria for spiritual leadership. This would fundamentally prevent a Christian from being a Buddhist as anything read or learned can only be viewed secularly and scholarly not spiritually.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Catholics are Christian. Catholic means universal. Christ's universal church for everyone everywhere. Christ told Peter "Upon this rock I'll build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Peter was the rock. He's buried at St Peter's Basilica. Every Pope after has been in succession. The same church that has stood for 2000 years going back to Christ and Peter. It was only 400+ years ago when a monk named Luther broke communion from the Catholic church to start his own church and removed 7 books from the old Testament. That was the beginning of all these protestant denominations and teachings of Calvanism or Arminianism etc. Everything done in the Catholic church can be found in scripture. Those who disagree need to read their bibles more.

No you can't practice more than one religion, that's like having more than one wife, which one do you love more?

Buddism isn’t so much a religion as a philosophy or way of living. Buddhists look to the Buddha as a teacher and guide, not as God who will bestow salvation.

If god exists in different religions why not learn what every religion has to offer and try to collect information to build a better version of yourself? People always try to elevate they re beliefs above others creating division and war

@@Melora84 there are religious aspects the Buddhism, but you can practice secular Buddhism if you don't beleive in the religious aspects. Secular Buddhism is more popular in the west.

@@kenny995 Agreed. People are misinterpreting buddhism. Not only does it espouse a theory of afterlife and reincarnation, it also has a very deep philosophy which rejects attachment which is hard to square with a lot of religions since they are attached to other things such as scripture, family, community etc. However you can still adopt Buddhist practices such as mediation, love, compassion etc.
