- Black Liberators WWII explores the untold stories of the triumphs and challenges of Black Canadian and Caribbean soldiers who served in the Canadian Army at the height of Nazism during World War II. This film is an homage to Canada’s Black war heroes that sheds light on their bravery and commitment to freedom. Prejudice and racism may have marked their lives but, undaunted, these patriotic men and women stepped up to free the world from tyranny. Their rich, authentic first-hand accounts must be preserved to remind us all of the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers of all backgrounds. These stories must never be forgotten.

Great presentation and I learned quite a bit about the experiences of our Canadian allies. I am from the US and was privileged to serve my last deployment on active duty last year with the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing (332 ECES) which traces its ancestry back to the 332nd FG and 477th Bombardment Group of the Tuskegee Airmen fame. I can tell you these African American servicemen are not forgotten - the facilities, ceremonies, and more importantly the young men and women serving overseas celebrate this heritage with great pride. I also just retired back to my home in Alaska getting there by driving up the legendary Alaska Canada Highway which was built in part by 4000 segregated African Americans that served in the Army Corps of Engineers. As a fellow engineer that has organized construction projects in Alaska I am amazed by their achievements. They are also not forgotten and there is a great deal more to do to let folks know about the other heroes of WWII that have not received all the recognition and appreciation they richly deserved.

As an African American I was really informed and was happy to hear the stories of other people of African descent in Canada and how much they contributed to their country. Their experiences mirror that of us here in USA.

Why be surprise since white people in all countries are various degrees of being RACIST, so never let your guards down. Even Red Jeanett might have changed once he came back to Holland after the war and entered civilian life.. Blacks are the only people who don't support each other,and love other people more than themselves...😄

the Harlem Hellfighters were the most respected troops the Germans fought.

Dad was not one, their headlong push bypassed a oversize platoon of SS . Armed to the teeth and with a twin 20 mm flak wagon. They as usual were running low (speed caused chronic supply issues) would have been wiped out.
Dad: "our deliverance came on the wings of a beautiful angle ! A p-51 sporting a red tail. Roving target of opportunity payroll !
Flak wagon - burning block of swiss cheese.
Over half the SS dead or wounded , easy to mop up.
Dad didn't forget , son won't forget . Thanks to that pilots service I was born in 52 .......
Dad : early on the SS gave proof what happened to Jewish , black , and most allied soldiers. The gloves came off ..... Only SS I allowed to live was the ones some officer insisted he taken prisoner. Reg (vermacht ) not a issue , some vets of wwI just wanted an end to the madness.

The RAF dropped its "Europeans only policy in October 1939 and started recruiting volunteers from the Caribbean in November 1940. From 6,000 volunteers, 5,500 were ground crew, the rest aircrew, 3,700 alone from Jamaica.
At least some of Blacks are remembered, and documentry is made,

Our black American soldiers should have joined up with the Maori battalion soldiers from New Zealand. Māori people use to face a bit of racism in New Zealand.
They were all soldiers black or white the same ,okay not in the good old USA land of the free

Interesting documentary, although black soldiers aren't "forgotten". They're just not mentioned because they played almost no role in the conflict as they were very few. Just like the black soldiers on the Nazi side btw (yes the Nazi's had divisions comprised entirely of African and Arab soldiers), who in the grand scheme of things didn't play much of a role.
It’s wasn’t their choice not to play a bigger role in the war, it was the mindset that black men couldn’t function under pressure and stress of war and the other was that white men’s superiority mentality . That they and they only could fight under the pressure and stress of war.

Oh, wow! That is completely incorrect, sir. Whether you know it or not or do not want to admit it. You owe a tremendous debt to these people as your life, freedom, and opportunity to pursue prosperity are built on their sacrifice. I am not African American, but I and a lot of other veterans really look to them as examples not only of heroism but the highest form of patriotism. They were despised and unappreciated before they served and just as much if not more afterwards. And yet generations are still called and answer.
