Here in Canada, there aren't too many options when it comes to credit cards with no foreign transaction fees.
Most of our best credit cards levy a standard 2.5% FX fee on foreign purchases, which adds to your burdens when you're travelling abroad.
In this video, we'll cover the three most prominent No FX Fee credit cards in Canada by HSBC and Scotiabank, and we'll also mention a few alternative solutions for optimizing your foreign spending offered by Brim, Stack, and US credit card issuers.

CZcamsrs Maldives trip when? 🏝 Was awesome to meet you and Mandy, keep up the hustle 💪🏼
I cannot explain the amount of excitement I felt when seeing the 3 of you together!!!
Nice video and excellent Burmese restaurant choice!
Hi Ricky,
Yes please, an updated Canadians applying for US cards would be much appreciated.
Please keep this good stuff coming.

Great to see you mentionining some of the lesser-known cards like the brim financial MasterCard. By the way - was asking to cancel/downgrade after the first year and they waived the annual fee for the second year. Doesn't hurt to ask if you're in the same boat!
I love to travel, so this is a must-watch video for me! I remember my first overseas vacation as a college student and was surprised to see the exchange rate fees hit my credit card bill. It’s great that there are now more options for travelers to take advantage of when spending abroad.
Great Video ! Extremely helpful thanks!!
definitely need an updated video on getting US credit card and ITIN as a Canadian.
Very complete review of all the options considering that we all have different needs.

Hey Ricky,
Love your video, so informational! Just wondering if there is any markup on exchange rate from the bank regardless of the no foreign transaction fee?

There is also the Home Trust Visa which is no fee and no fx. It wasn't a great card in the early days but it is passable now. Similar offer to brim with 1% back on everything and no FX.

That's a great solution for withdrawing cash. We plan to move to Asia and was looking for ways to bring cash back, if the upper daily limit is not too low then this could be a great way to get larger sums of money to myself without going through bank wires and such. I used to always just get to a location and use local ATM network to take out local cash, there's a fee but I was told the local ATM's fx rates are actually better than FX places/banks.

Would love an updated US Credit Cards for Canadians post/vlog please!
There's also Rogers MasterCard, us dollar purchases the cash back offsets the foreign transaction fee, same thing with Amazon credit card, also home trust visa has no foreign fx fees, all these cards have no annual fee
I would like to add additional benefit for hsbc bank premier elite card ID you're hsbc customer they waive $100 fee as well.
You should do a video on using Wise, it's been a life saver for me abroad
Definitely interested in hearing more about U.S credit cards! Also how Canadians can obtain U.S business credit cards.

Great Great video!
Hey Ricky, recently got into the points game because of you and your resources, just finished planning a trip to Asia that would cost me 22k for plane tickets that I'm going to redeem with points, patiently waiting for that updated video for getting US cards for Canadians
Great to hear! We'll get that in production shortly 👌🏼
Ricky, Love to hear the updated video for getting US credit cards.
what about conversion rate on HSBC CC & stack prepaid card? thank you for the video
for the scotia passport visa. if you open and keep $5000 in the ultimate package account, the annual fee is waived. but foreign purchases no longer get the 1% rebate.
Hi Ricky,
Please consider including the following as part of your updated guide:
1. Does opening a USA Amex trigger any concerns on the Canadian side such as automatic closure of your cards (ex. AMEX thinking you will be in the USA only)
2. As part of the identity check from AMEX they ask to upload a passport etc. Does a foreign non-Canadian passport and/or PR card work for PR’s in Canada?
3. If applying through Nova Credit, they ask if you are currently in the USA or if not, when you are moving to the USA. How should we navigate this question if only residing in Canada with visits to the USA?
Thank you so much for all that you do, love the vids!

What is the best way to withdraw cash at ATMs to avoid FX fees? Wise Card, WealthSimple Cash Card or EQ Bank Card?
Any good alternatives to stack now that they are not taking any more applicants?
It is worth noting that Visa and Mastercard both charges a 1% currency conversion network fee on top of the 2.5% foreign transaction fee charged by banks. No FX cards still has the 1% currency conversion fee charged by the payment network. AMEX's own cards do not have the extra 1% network fee.
Hi Ricky, my another concern is the ex rate different finacial insistion used. Are some of the card offer 0 foreign transcation fee but charge a higher ex rate?
I listened to this guy and got the hsbc. Let's see 😊
Hey Ricky I'm curious what you think of the RBC Visa Signature Black cards and how or if they might have a place when it comes to this topic?

I have amazon credit card, and eq bank debit card. They both dont have foreign exchange fees, so I think I am good. I wish to have a better one for points, but idk if its worth getting a card with a fee when I pay for everything on my cobalt, and its not that common when I get declined.
Some have complained that Brim has a terrible exchange rate. So your still paying higher than you should!
I'd also like to shoutout the HomeTrust visa. It's my free no fx card of choice :) had it for years. Just wanted to give another option to those who want something free
I don’t understand this priority pass lounge system. For example, in Cabo Mexico, you have to show the Priority Pass card then you can use one of your credit cards for the discount price to enter??? So do I have to buy a Priority Pass card membership then use my American Express Gold through Scotiabank for a discount on the entry to the lounge? Seems weird and expensive down to the lounge??
Nice video!. Could you recommend some US credit cards that offer more benefits than the HSBC credit card? Please, during the comparison, do not let forget to mention the currency exchange fee we would need to pay each month when converting CAD to USD

Do you think Ricky is your personal assistant? Sheesh.
Any update for year 2023 no fx choice? Because HSBC exiting Canada so new owner will be RBC
yes an updated video on how to get US credit card as Canadian resident
Does the lounge access apply for cardholder and companion?
might be interested in an update on us credits cards for canadians

The "no fee" HomeTrust Visa does not have a 2.5% foreign transaction fee
To get into the lounge
Did you also take a photo of your face and gov’t issued ID for Stack’s verification of you?
Plz help .I have credit card at my sister home in Florida. How she can deliver that to my Canadian address? which company deliver credit card from USA to canada? Plz help. Thank you.

Hi, Ricky,
I thought the HSBC or Scotiabank no FX fee credit cards need minimum individual or household income proof, right?
Every premium credit card does, depending on the rank of the card product.
What camera do you use?
No love for the Rogers cards?
Amazing😊 I just got my CC from the right plug

Stack now have fx fees
what happened to the HSBC world elite Mastercard its not on the prince of travel recommend no foreign transaction fee cards but in the video your saying its one to keep? I can't decide between the HSBC World Elite Mastercard, Scotia Passport, and TD infinite privilege when I am a high spender internationally --> university tuition that doesn't accept Amex :(
Unfortunately the HSBC card has been closed to new applicants. HSBC is being acquired by RBC. Existing cardholders are able to enjoy the benefits of the card for now. The Scotia Passport sounds like a great option for you, and they currently have an excellent first year free offer.
Bro, you’re mixing up Scotia gold passport visa and Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Card.
Scotia gold passport doesn’t have lounge access! Passport visa infinite does
My bad on the card designs there.

I use the Home Trust Visa card for my foreign transactions. No annual fee (but no real additional benefits).
Same here!
There is another comment about the same card below but note while it’s 0% FX, you no longer get 1% on foreign spend, just 1% in Canada. Better off with Brim unless you covet VISA over MC.
Amazing😊 I just got my CC from the right plug

I have a RBC US credit card which is also no FX fee if you pay the bill with US dollars. Is it a good one ?
Decent for the No FX, but the rewards wouldn't be as strong as on one of the Chase or Amex rewards-earning cards.
Amazing😊 I just got my CC from the right plug
Check the link 🆙👆🏾👆🏾💯
Are you familiar with the Rogers world elite? Any comments on it?
Rather weak I must say with their recent changes, in which only USD purchases are compensated with a higher earning rate now, and other foreign transactions are excluded
Amazing 😊 I just got my CC from the right plug
Check the link 🆙👆🏾👆🏾💯
Do you see Amex revamping the pp to get rid of the fx fees?
Personally, no - because there's no reason for them to get rid of a source of revenue on a card where FX fees aren't a differentiating factor (less so than lounge access, hotel benefits, etc.)
@@PrinceofTravel Are the yyz airport benefits on the CA pp any good? If there’s still gonna be an fx fee I might be keeping my US one for lounges and FHR
Amazing😊 I just got my CC from the right plug
Check the link 🆙👆🏾👆🏾💯
Is Stack mastercard or AC Conversion Visa card better?
Stack. AC Conversion Card still has FX fees, it's just embedded into the FX rate that you get whenever you convert between different currencies.
@@PrinceofTravel thank you Ricky!!!

Updated US credit card game for Canadians plz Ricky!
Let's do it
Wait are you saying all foreign purchases using HSBC are consider travel expenses and earn 3%?
No, only travel expenses earn 3%
Amazing😊 I just got my CC from the right plug

How many credit cards do you carry? How many credit cards can a guy apply for?
There's no real limit
@@PrinceofTravel so what you think is the sweet spot?
Amazing 😊 I just got my CC from the right plug

Home Trust Preffered Visa. No annual fee. No exchange fees. No limit 1% back. I carry it and the Scotia Gold AmEx, but pay for everything using prepay options in CAD before I leave, so the big items have no FX charge. Mostly I use my AmEx platinum, so consierge can solve any problems.
Sadly HomeTrust does not give you 1% CB on foreign currency transactions.
This weakness compared to the Brim Mastercard is why I've left it off the video
@@PrinceofTravel thoughts on the new WealthSimple Cash Card? Supposedly no forex fees and 5% CB on restaurants Friday-Sunday (EST time). Could work just like Stack, but also for eats and drinks while abroad (lol, but only on the weekends our time)

So Canadian banks are, “greedy beyond comparison.” No arguement there, but I guess that means all the American banks aren’t?
They sure do much more interesting options. I would say it's just much more competition in market than our market where all major banks acquire all smaller ones that get any significant amount of customers.
I didn't say they weren't 😏 But like Dmitry said, the greater competition in the US market keeps them on their toes a lot more
Nope...not anymore ..lol
You are phenomenal and have changed the game for me! But your Facebook Elite Group is so toxic and full of cyber-bullying it's insane. Lacks maintenance and moderation and put me in ridiculous discomfort, especially when I was thinking of buying the platinum monthly Patreon package
🙈🙉🙊👎
Wealthsimple just dropped their pre-paid VISA cash card as well. No Fx and 5% cashback at restaurants Fri-Sun
Mine is finally in the mail but also can be used on samsung and Google pay. 😁
