Oh goodness, my Grandmother was a purist. Absolutely no almond extract. Granddaddy would pour coffee in his saucer and put a tea cake on it to soak. The recipe had disappeared for years; I was visiting a great Aunt and she had it written on the back of an envelope. What a joyful day! I made them for my Daddy right away 😋

Oh Paula, I've been telling people about tea cake cookies for a hundred yrs (I'm 69). No one remembers them. Thank you sooo much for showing your crossstitch recipe. We lived in foster homes and the lady we called grandma kept a glass gallon jar filled with her delicious tea cakes. After 60 yrs I can finally make them for my daughter and grandchildren. Thank you again!

My Great Aunt Rowena always had tea cakes, when we went to visit, whether she knew we were coming or not. She also cooked on a wood stove only! Yum, making them this weekend.
